Dr Paul McNamara did surgery on my puppy. Although the surgery itself went fine, everything else was highly upsetting. He (and his staff who take direction from him) were irritated and impatient with my questions. They kept saying "these questions were already covered in the consult". I don't think it's unreasonable for an owner to ask the same question a few times. I am not a vet and the information was new to me and fairly upsetting. I expect to be treated respectfully and patiently even if it takes a few times for me to fully understand the facts. Further, I got no guidance about post operative rehabilitation or long term care. I was told what to do for the following 4 weeks and that was it. I was not educated so I could make good decisions - I was ordered to follow instructions without any understanding. I found that difficult. I found this doctor to be nasty and even threatening. And even though I had to spend more money to do it, I finally I decided to take my puppy to a different vet who could help me better understand what lay ahead for us. I went to ... and saw .... who is also an orthopedic surgeon. I was handled kindly, patiently, and with as much or more expertise. I felt like he cared about my dog and also about me. And I got lots of guidance about long term prospects and care. He and his staff were cheerful and helpful. I write this review to help others avoid what happened to me. When your dog needs/has surgery you are in a highly vulnerable and confused state. You need professionals who are happy to answer your questions no matter how many times they are asked. Go to a doctor who will patiently guide you through the process and educate you so you can make the best decisions for your animal. I can tell you for certain that Dr. Paul McNamara is not that doctor. He is a bully - not a caregiver. more
