Terrible Food Beware Indians, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis 12/24/2011

A warning to Desi (People from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh) customers if heading to House of India for a desi food touch with desi spices. House of India got a awesome location, attrative staff and beautiful presentation But the food is Terrible. House of India prime targets are customers not from India or Asia. The food taste is in no way remotely close to Indian receipe. Recently, I had a very bad experience and like to share with all of our Desi friends. Please prove me wrong should you decide to visit House of India just because of name and facade. You will never the water until you take a dive and when you hit your pocket for the food you hardly ate. In short, the food is no way matched to Indian cuisine or Asian spices. Now if a Desi person says House of India is great is simply sham advertisement. House of India Restaurant located at 22 Merrick Way, Coral Gables, Florida. Ph: (305) 444-2348 more

House of India is GrEaT!!! 12/20/2011

I am very BIG on Indian food and I have to say. This places ROCKS! Most Indian buffets only offer a full buffet on the weekends. I love the variety of foods you get from the buffet here ANY day. I read over a negative review mentioning the lack of flavor.. That person defenetly has a LACK OF TASTE! I can't stress how good the food at House of India is. You have to try this spot!! more

21 years and counting 7/14/2010

We have been coming to House of India for 21 years now and everytime we go, its gets better and better! WE love you all so much and keep up the good work! Pros: good food, good service and great location Cons: parking more

Don't do it! 4/8/2010

Ordered for take out. the samosas were ok, the potato bread was bland and my dish, the kadhi pakora was just inedible. I am familiar with Indian dishes and know that you find full pieces of spices in the dish but every bite i took of this dish had gritty pieces of spice. it was not clear where the flavor was going with the dish because it was overwhelming and the spices did not go together. Took three bites and could not eat it anymore. As for service, guy on phone sounded as if he was annoyed to take my order and didn't even get a thank you when i picked up the food. more

Not good - try somewhere else, anywhere else 3/9/2010

The worst Indian food I think I have ever tried. Just a bunch of spices mixed together - there was no authentic Indian taste. Dal was lentils with water, dosa was saturated with oil, tandoori chicken did not taste ""safe"". I am really surprised - Frommer's ranks it well, but I would NEVER suggest going here. I'm not sure how freshly cooked the food is - has a few days old taste to it. Sambar was different and most edible item. Also, surprising to see an Indian restaurant serving BEEF meatball curry? Save your time, money, and aggravation. Pros: Location Cons: Food taste, ingredient quality more

Not Happy 1/31/2010

If you are a first time eater of Indain food then this would seem to be good but I have never been so disappointed as I was with the lack of taste and the poor quality of the food. I ate one of their signature dishes and it had not flavor and was not good. The samosa was also not good. The bread was burned. I did tell the lady on the front desk and she said she would tell the manager but when they came with the check not a word was mentioned about my complaint. I left the restaurant hungry and disappointed never to return again. They have lost my business and everyone I know. I wasn't looking for a free meal just for someone to maybe offer me something else or an apology I got neither. Pros: Location Cons: Food was not good more

What an Awesome Restaurant 3/14/2009

So we were visiting Miami from NYC in March, Our plans were to go on a 3 day cruise! We got into town a few days early so we could be tourists and look around! My wife and I really enjoy India food especially since New York is full of Indian restaurants. We tried Guru and Ishq on the beach and I'll tell you one thing.. they don't know how to cook REAL Indian food at all! It was pretty bad! Then we tried Mint Leaf since the cab driver could not find House of India and we were once again disappointed with the food quality and service! It was worse then the first two! At this point we were so fed up with bad Indian food that we just decided to go to Denny's on Monday, our last day before the cruise and what do ya know... We found House of India restaurant right next door and decided to give a whirl! So we go in and were promptly greeted by a nice hostess! Then the nice gentlemen took our order and assured us that the food would taste good and we let him know that we have been told that before and were disappointed 3 times! So the food comes out and For Sure the food was amazing and so tasty! I thought to myself ? Wow this is really good Indian food!? I can honestly say that House of India surpasses any Indian restaurant I have tried in New York hands down! We asked to speak to the chef and out comes this very young guy who was cooking that Monday! We gave him our compliments and let him know that he knows how to cook! I was kicking myself in the butt throughout the whole cruise for not finding House of India earlier because we wasted a lot of money on horrible food at those other restaurants for the first two days! And let me just tell you the Mango Lassi they serve is the best lassi I have ever tasted I my life! It was so Good! We will definitely be coming here again next time we are in town! 5 Stars! Pros: Great Authentic Indian Cuisine Cons: Hours of operation.. they close early more

Great Indian Cuisine! 3/11/2009

We love the Butter Chicken Makhani at House of India! A friend and I had the Chicken Makhani, Saag Paneer and 2 garlic Naan and it was amazing! Thank you so much! Pros: many options to choose from! more

I think House of India is the BEST Indian restaurant in town!!! 2/9/2009

We visited House of India last Wed and let me just tell you the food was awesome! My husband and I were kinda skeptical about going since they had a few bad reviews on cityserach but we went anyway and had a great time there! The staff was very friendly and that handsome Indian guy was really nice too =)! Everyone had a smile on their face and took care of us like family! We will definitely be coming back again! Thank you House of India you guys are the best!!!!!!!! Pros: Great food, nice people! =) Cons: The Lights in the ladies restroom were kinda dark =( more

House of India has good prices, good portions and good food! 2/2/2009

We love India food and we have tried just about every Indian restaurant in Miami and i have to tell you, hands down House of India has the best India food in town! There is no comparison to what they have to offer and the variety is great too! Yes the service could be a bit better but how many Indian restaurants do you know of that have GREAT service? None! I went to Anoka in the Grove and on top of the below average food, they have no clue of what service is! And Mint Leaf is even worse because they charge an arm and a leg for the food! House of India has good prices, good portions and good food! I highly recomend House of India if your looking for good food and not royalty service! Just remeber it is an Indian restaurant so if you cant handle spicy food then dont ask for them to make it spicy and then complain that its too spicy!! Pros: Good Food and reasonable prices.. and the Lunch buffet is the BEST! Cons: Parking in Coral Gables is Horrible more

Just Wonderful Indian Food 9/23/2008

My wife and I have been dining at Indian Restaurants our entire life, and House of India is one of the best. I laugh when I read these negative reviews because if a restaurant is as bad as they say it wouldn't be open for 35 YEARS!!! Please people get a life. This place has been a staple in Miami for great Indian food. Out of 100 customers you'll always find 1 or 2 idiots who complain, they'll find any reason to complain, and then try to hurt a restaurant by writing these reviews. Don't listen to the idiots try for yourself. This place is great and you won't regret it!!! By the way, why shouldn't they serve beef? This is America, and 95% of their clients are non-Indians. I suppose they shouldn't serve liquor either since most Indians don't drink. Pros: Food, Service, Value Cons: City of Coral Gables Parking. more

HORRIBLE 8/29/2008

The worst service ever! SLOW does not even cover it. If you like to eat and drink of dirty dishes with food still on the glassware and plates, then this is the place for you. They ran out of rice when we ate there, and decided to completely ignore us instead of telling us. They served food with no rice, and ran. We had to go find our server who told us they had no rice. The restaurant if very dirty. The back dumpster is filthy, full of grease and rodents. The dumpster is visible from parking lot. The management is very rude too. Very defensive, instead of being helpful and problem solving. DON'T GO HERE! more

Rude, Mannerless, Poor staff, Below average food, Stay Away from it 8/9/2008

Exteremely poor. Rude and manerless staff. First and foremost they should learn some manners. This is the first place where i ever heard the cost of cleaning table cloth. We had ordered to-go and when we reached there we felt like having apetizers there and i was told for apetizer we will not allow you to dine. He tells me the cost of cleaning table cloth is 42 cents, i could not believe this. I felt like giving them some money. Whatever we bought was ordinary. Definitely worth a miss. Save your money. there are many other better restaurants Pros: Nothing Cons: Food, Mannerless staff, Poor owner more

Worst experience 8/9/2008

The worst experience i ever had .The service is extremely poor and these guys defenetely need to learn some manners and treat their customers with some respect. the food quality is very very ordinary .very expensive. Its just not worth to go this restuarant if yo uare looking for good food and decent service. Please beware its just hyped up. But the service and food are really bad. Please dont go to this restuarant. VERY VERY BAD. Pros: NOTHING Cons: VERY BAD SERVICE,EXPENSIVE, BAD QUALITY FOOD more

Worst customer service vs Bad owner with attitude 7/19/2008

I have been their couple of times and every visit of mine was a bad experience. When visited first time I would'nt bother much next time I went for big party and notice that he is always like that. more

Great Food! 5/29/2008

Since moving to Miami, my husband and I have found it difficult to find a good Indian restaurant. Well, we found one! The food was VERY good - we ordered Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Saag. The service was excellent and the prices reasonable. We will definitely be going there again! Pros: Food Cons: Parking - only meter on street more
