Great atmosphere, great new chef 8/5/2009

We had drinks here, those turned into dinner and I have to say I was impressed with the new menu/chef at the Hunt Club. We had kind of a preconceived notion that the place was snooty, but that couldn't have been farther from the truth. Tasty app's and a casual atmosphere were great. Pros: Excellent Food, historic setting more

Lousy across the board 7/22/2009

Four of us dined here on 7/10 and were incredibly disappointed with the service and food. As long time Seattleites who have dined at the Hunt Club many times over the years, it's sad to see this restaurant decline. This used to be a ""special occasion"" place, but that's changed. Specifics: Our waiter was unprofessional and indifferent. He did not greet us or tell us about specials or the menu. He seated us, then showed up and said ""are you ready?"". There were very few people in the restauarant (now we understand why), so they were not overly busy. Our wine was served in dirty/spotty glasses. We had to ask for bread and water refills. When servers showed up to deliver the courses (salad, mains and desserts) they put the wrong dish in front of the wrong person each time. The pork belly was so salty it was inedible, the venison stew was flavorful but dry, and the lamb chops were like leather. The server never came back to check on us after the food was delivered, so we never had a chance to offer feedback or ask for something else. This is a spendy restaurant - $25 and up for entrees - and there's no way they'll stay in business at this rate. There are many restaurants providing a much better experience, thus we'll take our business elsewhere. Pros: Sadly none Cons: Terrible service and food more

My parents would like this place. 3/2/2009

I read an article in seattle magazine featuring up and coming places in seattle. The fireside Room in the Hilton was listed. First off this place has been here for quite some time and cudos to them for trying to change the image by adding a happy hour to get a younger crowd in. Secondly if you want to have people come in for a happy hour perhaps it would be best if you had specific menus for the occasion. As we were seated there were no indication as to wether or not there even was one so we asked. The Hostess confirmed and handed us two bar menus. The menu didn't even have the happy hour prices listed so we initially thought this was going to be the most expensive happy hour we've seen. But when we got the check everything was basically half off. But it would have been nice to know the prices before hand. Plus the portion were really off some were far too small while others were absolutely huge. It made me feel like things were unpredictable and not in a good way. And like the Header states... this place is more for my parents. There were only about five other people around and they were all MUCH older and talking about the latest trend at the knitting club. All in all the furishings are nice and I would maybe stop by again when there's snow on the ground for a nice winter cocktail. But maybe if you want to change your image... start with the basics and get new menus. Pros: Quite, comfortable seating and nice ambiance Cons: Parking, need new menus more

Beautiful wedding venue, terrible management 2/10/2009

We recently had our wedding and reception at the Sorrento Hotel. We felt it would be the perfect venue for a winter wedding - and it was. The furnishings and decor are lovely, and the views and terrace added a classy touch. However, the management of our wedding was terrible. From the beginning, they failed to communicate with us, not returning e-mails or phone calls. As our date approached, we had to literally barge our way in to see the space so we could get measurements for our florist because the management was unresponsive to our requests. We were not given a tasting until mere weeks before the wedding, and the food was not exceptional. We also faced what appeared to be either dishonesty or utter incompetence. There was a surprise fee for the "toast" that we had to fight about, we were double-billed for rooms guests pre-paid for through the internet, and guests were told they had to pay for parking even though we had pre-arranged for their valet parking. The management also told us our wedding decorations would be kept in a particular place, and when it was time to decorate, they weren't where the hotel said they'd be! Our family spent 30 frantic minutes trying to find someone from the hotel to help locate the decorations. Additionally, a family member had to go back into the kitchen to insure they saved our anniversary cake layer because the servers appeared uncertain when he asked them what they planned to do with it. Surprise, surprise; the next morning it was not in the refrigerator where he had placed it! It appeared that the hotel would never have remembered it nor found it again. They only looked for it after we put up yet another fight - and it took them at least 15 minutes to find it! The management also did not help us in any way with decorating or even directing the wedding procession. In short, they did absolutely nothing and the management of our wedding was totally deplorable. (We would add, however, that the concierge and front desk service was very good.) We would not recommend the Sorrento Hotel as a wedding venue. more

Incredibly Romantic 1/7/2008

I first went to the Hunt Club in college 15 years ago. It was one of my first dates with my husband. We have returned many times for special occasions in our lives as it is the most romantic spot in Seattle. We consider it a special place just for the two of us, so we always go alone. It is our little secret. There isn't a better place to enjoy an after dinner drink than sitting on the plush seats in the bar area. The food is creative and beautifully presented. I always feel happy and pampered when I leave. more
