I agreed with the negative responses below BEFORE THE RESTAURANT WAS SOLD. Now, the service is much better, the offerings are much truer to real cajun food, and the atmosphere is ...

Cafe New Orleans 12/4/2010

This was the 2nd time I have dined there. The waiter, David, was a very nice, kind man who loves what he did. The food was fantastic, I had the ribs,so good they did not stand a chance, the dirty rice and red beans went fast also, at our table we had most of the lunch menu, and everyone was more than happy, the sauce served with the alligator skewrs was bliss. Bravo to you and i will go back again when i visit Sac . more

HORRIBLE EVERYTHING 8/23/2009

horrible place to go. 1st our pictcher of beer was flat 2nd decided go with the bottled beer and when it was brought out it wasn't even the right kind we ordered 3rd we ordered the tri tip sandwich and the shrip po' bo'. when our order was brought it was screwed up yet again and brought us 2 tri tip sandwiches. service was very slow, the sandwich was flooded in bbq sauce. after we were done the waitress had the audacity to ask if we wanted dessert!! are you kidding?? if i could give it a review of zero stars i would. SAVE SOME TIME AND DO NOT GO HERE! Cons: all more

Can't believe what I am hearing 7/30/2009

Since I am born and raised in New Olreans it makes me sick to hear some of these comments, so if the place is still open I will go and do a review on it.\r Don't ruin our good name; if the owners need to learn the real cooking of New orleans I can help.\r Can someone let me know if it's still open and calling for New Orleans type food? Pros: Is this place still open? more

Decent food, Horrible service - Spend your money elsewhere 1/25/2009

The food here was not too bad. The service was clearly a problem, and not worth any gratuity in my opinion. The cost of the menu is tolerable but the service experience was terrible. On 1/25/09 we had a dinner party with really high expectations. We sat about 45 minutes until we actually got to order and then finally the drinks came after that. The meals took so long that they gave us two for free. We were very patient and forgiving to the waiter who would disappear from time to time. We spent around $500 dollars and his excuse was ""we were a hard party"". In the end make sure you spend your money elsewhere, don't go here for a good time! Pros: Great food taste Cons: bad service, bad atmosphere more

worst dining experience EVER 12/26/2008

The waitress, named, Brandi looked like the tweaker of all tweakers. She should not be serving food to the public. Her appearance was unkept, dirty and had a bad attitude. She was picking the big scabs off her face then serving her customers. This was the WORST dining experience we've ever encountered in sacramento. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT. \r We made the management aware of her, but they did not seem to care. I hope this helps you decide NOT to eat at this place...and if you do...watch for scabs in your food.\r Cons: everything about the place...especially Brandi more

Just Awful 9/8/2008

It took us ten minutes to be seated even though there was only one other couple there. Another ten minutes to get our drink order. \r \r The bread tasted like it was a few days old. The sandwiches we had were truly disgusting. Coated with.. well, who knows? And an extra dollar for bland french fries!\r \r The decor is more run down than rustic. \r \r Simply put, it was awful. Don't go here! Pros: The location. Old town Sac is charming! Cons: Everything? It was awful! more

FAKE FAKE FAKE! 3/22/2008

If you know anything about food and like good food don't go to this place! They advertise all sorts of ""authentic"" New Orleans food and that is a joke! Your meal comes served on the most disgusting flavored rice, it tastes like the incense stores on the next block, the andouille sausage is some cheap knock off hotdog/farmer john ""hot link"" and tastes just as cheap and unauthentic. The chicken was something like the precooked-frozen chicken from Costco. A plate that was supposed to have andouille sausage, chicken and shrimp cost over $16, you get half a chicken breast, a shriveled up disgusting sausage and 3 small shrimps on a skewer. Nothing, absolutely nothing! at this horrible establishment is authentic, tasty, spicy, or worth the money. Keep in mind that old town is a tourist trap, if you want good food don't eat there. Or go to O'mallys and have a burger, or Joe's Crab shack, and get robbed with some entertainment! If you're a local avoid the scam and eat somewhere without the hype! Pros: This place should close down or change management Cons: This place is the worst place in Old Town! more

Good, honest cajun food , and I've lived there 3/20/2008

I agreed with the negative responses below BEFORE THE RESTAURANT WAS SOLD. Now, the service is much better, the offerings are much truer to real cajun food, and the atmosphere is quaint. I have not been on a weekend when there is live music, but during the week the crowd is small and service is prompt. Pros: Good cajun food Cons: Old Sacramento parking can be hard to find more

Best cajun food eaten since Houston and New Orleans. 10/28/2006

Jambalaya and gumbo both excellent with cooked in spices and fresh ingredients. Service and waitress dish knowledge outstanding; she offered a sampler of gumbo, jambalaya, shrimp etoufee and a very spicy sauce for preparing your mouth for the upcoming experience. Blackened catfish from dinner menu was warm, both fish and rice. Flavor tasted brushed on. Not recommended on this Sunday afternoon visit. Key Lime pie tasted like a vanilla custard with light lime flavoring. Would not make it at a Florida church social. Pros: Sausage, chicken, okra Cons: French bread sliced but heated by microwave, not oven. Detracted. more

Great Food,Great Atmosphere,Great Service 6/17/2006

Not your typical boring hamburger and steak restaurant. Cafe New Orleans offers something different then the typical restaurant. With great Cajun style food if you like it hot they got it, also if not (like my wife) then there is still plenty to choose from. Service was friendly and the food was great.\r Also, great atmosphere in The SpeakEasy bar downstairs! Pros: Ambience, service, food more

Worst Cajun Food on the West Coast 4/4/2005

Poor service and food, very poor quality, the hot and spicy Shrimp, was watered down stewed tomatoes with ceyenne peppers, no cajun seasoning at all. I am a cajun chef, I learned to cook Cajun food in New Orleans. This restaurant is a horrible excuss for cajun food. The service is very slow, small portions, the gumbo was watery, with little or no taste, the shrimp were boiled in water with no shrimp or crab boil, with no flavor..They boast best shrimp you ever tasted, they were the worst this Cajun has ever tasted, So do not waste your time or money at this restaurant..Jerry Thornhill Cons: poor service, poor food, poor quality more
