Horton's Lawn & Landscaping

I was just browsing Yahoo searching for a local landscape company to do some work in our yard and I came across this review page for Horton's. If I had known that I could leave a review for them, I would have done so before now. We used Horton's about two years ago and I have to say that all of the negative reviews are right in line with the experience we personally had with Horton's. They are quick to show up and get you excited about the job they are ""going to do"" only to collect your money, and leave you gueassing about what you got into from that point forward. This is a 3 person operation and once they have your money they could care less about the quality of the work or whether or not your happy with it. I spent $4K and I would have been better off flushing it down the toilet. I do not recommend them to anyone! more

There's a book out called Scam. It's eerily reminiscent of the way these people operate. They will charge for what they think is needed to be done relating to your landscaping needs, not what you want. Wanted a certain style of porch. Got something I didn't ask for. They don't call you back because they KNOW what you want: to complain and ask when they'll be back. Hint: Take pictures for before and after purposes. Get EVERYTHING you want on paper and SIGNED. more

They do not pay their vendors. Barbara promises and says what a Christian she is - even agreed and signed a promissory note for payment. Well stupid us, they took us good and disappeared. This means that some of the landscaping done, the product was never paid for and they pocketed the money instead of paying for it. That is what is wrong with this country. People that lie and cheat for a dollar. more

Horton's provides quality workmanship, but communication and follow through stink. They are quick to show up and sell you their product/service, quick to come by and collect your money, but poor at keeping to a promised schedule. I purchased an $8,000 patio and cover in August. It was finished in March. Granted rainy weather prevented completion, but never did I receive an update. I continually had to call them to ask if they had forgotten me. They also miscalculated dimensions and expected me to pay for their mistake. After a professional discussion, they conceded and I didn't have to pay the difference. I have used Horton's Lawn & Landscaping for over 10 years and have been very pleased with their work. They have taken excellent care of my yard, flower beds, shrubs, and trees. Each year they check out my sprinkler system and make any needed updates to the system. Last year I had them remove my old retaining wall and build a new retaining wall. It looks great and I have received several compliments on it. I would recommend them to anyone. Pros: Take excellent care of yard, flower beds, shrubs and trees more

We thought it was going to look good, but it looks better than we could have imagined! We entertain more than ever and love the TV over the fireplace and the kitchen area. The outdoor lights are pretty romantic too. I like to go out and sit under the patio cover when its raining slow - very relaxing! They really pay attention to detail. I would highly recommend them. One side of our yard was on a slope. Something the builder should have taken care of 10 years ago. We called Hortons and they made it level with a terraced wall and it looks great and is so much more functional. No more mowing on a slant. The fence replacement looks great and the neighbors love the new look. The workers were professional. I will use Horton's Landscaping for future needs. Pros: Looks Great more

I have used Horton's on two occations, Once to clear a 5 arce pasture and remove an old barn, I found them knowledgable and efficient with thier time and material. The second was when they installed a french drain to assist with water flow problems, again they were expiditious and courteous. I have recomended them to many of my associates and have never heard a complaint. Pros: Expiditious, Affordable,Courteous more

The landscape design for my yard and the weekly care of it has been great. They worked to stay within my budget and gave great advice for not over planting. The Horton's are wonderful people who care about their customers and go the second mile. Pros: Creative design and great weekly service more

We had Horton's do our entire back yard, complete with lighting. We did it in late fall when they were not too busy. We received excellent workmanship, excellent plants, and the design delights me all year long as different flowers bloom all year long! We had a couple of trees that died, (which can happen to new plants) but Jason came out and replaced them free of charge. They have done quite a bit of helping out for those that have suffered losses during tornados and storms. They are wonderful people with wonderful hearts. Suggestions for successful work with any contractor is to write down what you want, and go to their location to pick out which plants you like. Would never have used them had I read these reviews. They initally were great with the design from Tim Strain. They call promptly for money, but as for follow through after the sale and when work was completed, you will recieve NONE (JUST AS THE OTHER REVIEWS HERE STATE!!!). They specifically Jason WILL NOT RETURN YOUR PHONE CALLS AT ALL. They told me I had a one year guarantee on plants and 1 year on sprinkler system. One plant died and sprinkler head needed to be raised and they refused after calling daily for 2 weeks. I would never recommend them, but tim has beautiful ideas. eXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN FLOWER MOUND Pros: they were willing to help me design Cons: will not ever return phonecalls after you pay them more

I wish I had seen these negative reviews before I attempted to engage Horton's in completing some landscape work. After a 15 minute phone call with B Horton, she instructed me to take multiple photos to email to her so that they could assess the area and give an initial quote before coming out. She said they would get back to me by noon the same day. The next day I called b/c I had received no response. She flippantly said she had been busy, had gotten my emails with the pictures, hadn't looked at them yet and could not remember what we had discussed. She said she'd look at them and get back to me. I waited over a week before leaving a recent phone message stating that if they were interested I would appreciate a return call otherwise I would assume from their lack of response that they were not interested in assisting me. They don't seem to have it together, and I'm glad all I invested was a few phone calls and some emails. I will check them off our list and begin the search for a different landscape company. I wanted to write this review because I highly recommend Hortons Landscaping. We have done business with Horton's for over five years and thought I would let someone know about our experiences. They have worked on our irrigation, drainage, installed new sidewalk, new sod, beautiful landscaping ""love the Encore Azaleas"", and also replaced a front porch on our home. The porch is very large ""like porchs use to be"". We get compliments from our neighbors and people that drive by our home all the time. Horton's is prompt, always shows up and cleaned up wonderfully. The workers are great. I just had them plant flowers the other day, again. I would recommend them because Jason has new ideas that work wonderful. In fact , Jason designed our rustic fence for us along our back driveway, with lights ""beautiful"". I asked Hortons about moving trees. They told me Professional tree movers may use specialized equipment, but shovels and picks are among the most reliable moving tools for home gardeners and professionals. One overlooked planting tool many times, is a small grinder that they use. They told me that if the plant is larger, or established, it may be better to wait a year and prepare the root b a l l. A root ball root mass can be ?thickened? - made more dense - by promoting more small roots with cutting and digging the circle of the root in advance. They are great landscapers and I thought I would share some of the tips they have given me when the job could possibly be dome by me or if there is a way I can prepare to save on costs. I am using them for a Gardner gift for my mom this year for Christmas. Don?t underestimate the value of a great landscaper and all they can do for you like Hortons. I highly recommend them. I called and got excellent service here. I needed some irrigation work done. They came out the same day and completed the job in budget. They were friendly and efficient. I read the info below after these guys came out. No problems here. Maybe they have new management, but I would highly recommend Horton's Landscaping Pros: They came out the same day! Disappointing is the best word. You are excited by Jayson's ideas when he first meets you, but they do not deliver on his promises. I asked for borders around my front flower beds that were to be done with stone from my large back yard project and Barbara, late in the project said no that will look bad but no alternative was offered for a job promised. I STILL HAVE NOT SEEN PERMITS FOR A JOB COMPLETED 5 MONTHS AGO. The beautiful landscaping that flows so nicely in the photo archive on thier website looks nothing like the straight boring hedges in my yard. Also when they make appointments they dont show and when they show up it is without an appointment and you do not get the opportunity to watch the work. The reviewer who said Jayson oversees the work must be a friend because he did not oversee the work for me. They do not return calls unless you threaten them with an attorney. I just want the pretty landscaping they show on their site and the permits for the job. Pros: Actual hardscapes like the arbor and patio are beautiful. Cons: Landscaping is not their forte. There was no customer service whatsoever. We never heard from them until they wanted their money. They never even called to tell us when they were coming to do the work. They just showed up un-announced one day. I don't blame it on the guys who actually do the physical work because they are just following orders. I don't think the managers or owners know what they are doing and they are not reliable. I wish we had paid a little more and used another company. more

Work looks just ok, had to have another company come spruce it up after Horton's would not return calls. Pros: did a good job on my front yard in 2002, but bad in back in 08 Cons: no customer service, the company has gone down hill since I used them last more

I had to call every week for a month before they called me back and offered the ""one year later"" follow up help. Jayson never returned my calls and stood me up. My advice is know the plants and don't take too much advice from these folks. more
