I heard great things about Horizons , but the experience left me underwhelmed and feeling more than a little ripped off. Pros: One of a kind menu Cons: Price

Holy WOW!! 11/22/2011

This place is amazing! The food is absolutely incredible, and even if you're a meat eater apparently it still satisfies. I went with some meat-eating friends (I'm a Veg) and they loved the food as much as I did and said they didn't even miss the meat! I highly recommend this place to anyone. It's not super expensive, they have organic wines, and a warm atmosphere too. Highly recommended! more

Refreshing 3/15/2010

A restaurant that serves world class vegan cuisine! Finally, a vegetarian restaurant that doesn't try to serve food that looks or tastes like something it isn't! The chefs here create masterpieces that elevate vegetarian cuisine. more

GREAT food and atmosphere 11/11/2009

Horizons food is AMAZING and the atmosphere at the restaurant is warm and relaxing. I always leave feeling uplifted and with my tastebuds celebrating. I am vegetarian, but my husband is not, and this is one of his favorite restaurants too. We had our wedding lunch at Horizons, and it was absolutely perfect.. the appetizers and served food were beautiful and delicious, the atmosphere was great, and they even surprised us with a mini wedding cake. I was worried that a couple of the guests may not like the vegan food, but everyone raved about the food. more

Do not like the vegan label intimidate you 10/1/2008

This is an excellent restaurant. It was nice to go into such a nice place and have a delicious, completely vegan meal. I recommend this to vegans and meat eaters. It's a great place. And do not forget the desert its the best part! more

OK, but way, way overpriced 8/24/2008

so good 6/10/2008

All the rave reviews are well deserved. Horizons menu is the most creative and delicious i've ever tasted. If i HAD to stretch to find fault with this restaurant, it would be with the servers- I can't tell if they are slightly pretentious or slightly uncomfortable. Either way this place loses no points, i love it. Pros: deliciousness Cons: pricey more

Best place to eat in Philly 4/4/2008

My girlfriend and I love this place, so much that we bought their cook book that they sell and when we have time we try to recreate their dishes. We live out in West Chester and every time we come into the city this is the only place we want to eat. The menu has a great selection and the people their are so friendly. It is also nice to see the owners working their, they add so much to the atmosphere Pros: Food is great so are the folks that work there Cons: Parking more

For vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters alike 7/17/2007

I was visiting Philadelphia with my boyfriend and his sister/brother-in-law. There was a wait at the dining area so we grabbed a table at the bar upstairs. We had the place all to ourselves. I can't say much about the beer or wine, but the tapas were to-die-for. We tried the gazpacho, a wild mushroom dish, and something with roasted red pepper. It was fresh and filling. The flavors were well blended, complimentary, and not overpowering. My favorite - the Jamaican BBQ seitan. I would go there again in a heartbeat, and so would my very carnivorous boyfriend. Pros: Polite, casual service and hip atmosphere Cons: Out of a college student's price range and not in Atlanta! more

Best Gourmet Vegan Food in Philly 3/13/2007

I used to go to Horizons when it was in the 'burbs. I was worried that it would change when it reopened in Philly, and it did...for the better. Everything is great about this place. The ambience is just right, the presentation of the food, the food itself, the staff. Even my non-vegan friends love the food there. Make sure to get a reservation though. more

Fine vegetarian Cuisine 11/3/2006

Horizons offers more in the way of vegetarian fine dining with its delicately made dishes filled with innovative and unusual ingredients. It isn't cheap, but is worth the money for the ambience and service. You should definitely make a reservation as it is a limited space with much demand. Like I said, it offers more in the way of cuisine than regular every day eating. I definitely enjoyed Horizons, but find Blue Sage in Bucks County, PA to have a much more palatable range of tastes. This is a person preference. But for good vegetarian cuisine in Philadelphia - Horizons is the place. Pros: Kind and helpful waitstaff Cons: Location, Need for reservations ahead of time more

AWESOME! 8/14/2006

THE BEST INTRODUCTION TO VEGETARIAN FOOD YOU COULD ASK FOR. I HAVE FOUND NOTHING LIKE IT ANYWHERE. STOP WASTING TIME ELSE WHERE AND GET TO HORIZONS! IT COSTS MORE THAN $3.95 BUT THEN AGAIN...ITS NOT A VEGGIE BURGER...ITS HEAVEN! Pros: SEITAN, SERVICE, DESSERTS more

new location, same great taste 7/15/2006

I am not sure why Citysearch has not updated Horizon's new address of 611 S. 7th Street yet, so eager customers know where to look. At any rate, the food is exceptional! Take tofu. Yeah, tofu is tofu, it tastes like tofu. Not at Horizon's. The tastes range from spicy to a Caribbean theme. The tofu taste is just subdued into the dish. I've branched out from my usual seitan entree to treat my taste buds to these new experiences. Horizon's allows you let down your guard and take the road less traveled. The menu has quite the eclectic blend of exotic and simple ingredients. I am confident that even if I do not know exactly what Im reading with respect to ingredients, that it is going to be out of this world. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. A fantastic ambience awaits you and your friends and family. Please don't pass this up. I had been going to the Willow Grove cafe for years. With this new location, it seems just right. Same great people, same great taste. Cons: Not too much room for several large groups more

Seitan that will blow your mind!!! 5/25/2006

I've be a semi-regular at Horizons for years, at it get's better all the time! Rich makes the most amazing sauses and the seitan steak fills every craving i've ever had for meat in 6 years. The desert is to die for, great service, nice atmosphere and very well priced! I still have not gotton to see there new location on 7th street in philly, but it's worth the hour drive. Pros: service, sauces, even good for non-veg more

continued excellence 10/15/2005

just want to say that horizons gets better and better. i love bringing new people there to surprise them with how excellent veggie food can be - and how well i can pair it with some of my best wines. philly is lucky to have them! Pros: creative, excellent value, consistent Cons: not many big parties, don't bring kids! more

Best of the Best 12/5/2004

I have been to vegitarian restaurants all over the US and this is by far the best and most creative. more

Gourmet and Delicious 6/20/2004

Forget the best of Philly, Horizons Cafe is the best vegetarian restaurant in the country! They take seitan and tofu to a higher level. With creations like Jamaican seitan wings, sopa de tortilla and grilled tofu scallops Horizons delivers! Even my meat eating friends, love Horizons. You've got to taste it to believe it. Oh, and don't leave without trying the vegan coconut-lime cheesecake. It's out of this world. Check out their website and go for a meal. You won't be disappointed. If you don't believe me, check out Craig Laban's, Savoring Philadelphia, Horizon's is highlighted as one of his favorite restaurants. Enjoy! Pros: the food, the staff, the ambience more

Horizons is the Best! 6/14/2004

Horizon is one of the best vegetarian restaurants I have ever eaten at. The BQ Seitan wings are the best, they almost taste like chicken, but are even better in my opinion. The caeser salad is one of the best and it's non-dairy, I don't know how they do it. I would become a vegetarian if I could eat food like this everyday. Everything I have tried at Horizon has been great! I highly recommend trying Horizons whether you are a vegetarian or not. I think it is a good place for non-vegetarians to try because they would be able to see that meals do not always have to include meat to be good. Healthy food does not have to be boring or bland, especially not at Horizons. Pros: Great food, Variety, Great People Cons: , No salad w/ meal more

Veggie-licious 6/13/2004

This is a rare vegetarian restaurant that will impress vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters alike. The flavors and textures of these creative and unique meals is unmatched in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Pros: easy parking, relaxed atmosphere more

Awesome 6/12/2004

The ambiance is laid back, with great, international, music. The food is absolutely excellent. It has a bright, colorful decor, that raises your spirit. Besides, it supports a healthy lifestyle not only individually but globally. Pros: variety, flavor, relaxed more
