Mere words can not express how I feel about Todd Bannister and his staff of Angels. 10/31/2008

I don't know where those other reviewers went, but it certainly was not to Hoppenstedt Animal Hospital. The care my last dog Rusty got there was the best I could have gotten him anywhere at any price. Todd was excellent with Rusty, and I would have trusted no one else with his care, especially after he got sick. And when I had to put Rusty down, Todd and his Staff were kind, compassionate and above all caring. I still have the bereavement cards they sent me. I'll cherish them along with my Rusty's memory forever. Now that I have another dog, my very bad boy, Charlie, he goes to no one but to Todd Bannister, and he never will. I would trust his health to no one but Todd and all of his many devoted helpers. I would trust my own health and life to Todd Bannister. He's an excellent veterinarian. I highly recommend him, his office, and his practice. Barbielover is a disgruntled ex-employee, she isn't writing anything that is remotely true. You can look for the rest of your lives and NEVER find a Veterinary Practice as caring or as dedicated to your pet as Hoppenstedt Animal Hospital. Money is not the driving force in the practice, of course it needs to make a profit so that everyone can be paid, (after all they have bills and like to eat as much as the next guy) and the Hospital has expenses just to keep it running. Medical costs are high, it's no different with your pet than it is with your own health care. Get pet insurance to help defray the costs of pet medical care. It's the price we pay for being a pet owner. My dog is a member of my family, he's worth much more than any vet bill could ever be. I could never put a price on him for all the joy and happiness he has brought me. I will rely on Todd and his staff of wonderful people to help me keep him healthy. They're the best there is! Pros: Everything in my opinion. Cons: There are none. more

THE BEST ANIMAL HOSPITAL IN ULSTER COUNTY 9/17/2008

I generally do not write reviews, but felt it necessary in this case. I have used most of the Vets in Ulster county with mixed results. Until I went to Hoppenstedt Veterinary Hospital, I was never completely pleased with the doctors and staff at most hospitals. This country vet is fantastic. I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who helped me collect my records from other hospitals and had numerous insiteful questions about my dog, Buddy. The lobby is rustic but informative and comfortable. The fireplace looks like it would be very comforting in the winter. The nurses were kind, compassionate and very informative. The doctor, Dr. Banister, greeted Buddy as soon as he entered the room and had a warm and caring attitude. He asked numerous questions about Buddy's health and previous care, and reviewed his medical history from the previous hospitals. Dr. Banister then performed a complete physical exam from head to toe. He was able to determine Buddy's problem form the previous lab work and physical exam. I dont think Buddy ever had a more complete exam. As were were discharged, the nurses reviewed Buddy's care and made some diet recommendations. The cost was reasonable for the care Buddy received. I am now transfering all my pets to Dr. Banisters care. If you have a pet you truly love and would like the best medical care for him then go to Hoppenstedt Veterinary Hospital, you will not be disappointed. Pros: Doctors, Nurses, Receptionist, The hospital, Location Cons: Tight parking more

Veteranarians Need An Attitude Adjustment and Go Back to Vet School 7/9/2008

This had to be the most horrific experience that I have ever encountered with an Animal Hospital. The Vet on duty who took my animal as an emergency case, did not do a full exam to find out what was wrong with her. He found basically nothing wrong, yet the pet threw an embolism 3 weeks later and had to be euthanized. I was in SHOCK and still am. DO NOT GO HERE!! Cons: Vets, Office Staff, Office Manager more

Avoid at all Costs 6/12/2008

When I went there they were so bad with my cat they had to anesthetize just to take tests. All the work I had done on her came to $365! I asked to pay in two installments and they said I could use their own credit program. I said I don't do credit but could I make another payment next month? They said no. I had to pay in full or use a charge card which I don't do. Their staff is hardly warm. Dr. Bannister is a vet who is more concerned with getting paid and charging a fortune than caring for an animal. He is an all business Dr. When I complained about the high bill I was told by the front desk that that's because there is no pet insurance. Later, I found out they charged double for the prescription I got than I could get online. When I asked them to cooperate with the online scrip company, they said they don't do that. I am changing my vet asap. Hoppenstedt didn't used to be this way before Bannister took over. They are very expensive and kept me waiting in the wait room for over an hour. more

horrific prices and wrong information 2/5/2008

I took a stray cat to Hoppenstedt to find out whether it was pregnant or not and was told she was and that they would spay her for $700 (I kid you not). I quickly found out two things - other vets would have done the same procedure for under $200 and that the cat was not pregnant in the first place. In fact, it turned out she had already been spayed. more

Best Vet in the Hudson Valley!!!!! 1/9/2008

My Dog was sick for 2 months befroe I brought him in to see Dr. Banister. We had been to three other vets in Ulster county, and they were unable to help him at all. A friend recommended Hoppenstedt Veterinary Hospital , and I am so glad he did. The receptionist were warm on the phone, and truly seemed concerned for my Tino. They fit me in that day, making room for my sick pet. Whe I walked into the Hospital I was greeted immediately by 2 smiling faces Ashley and Sarah, who knew me and Tino by name. I sat in the warm lobby by the fireplace for 5 minutes, then was brought into the exam room by a very friendly nurse. Dr. Banister was very inquisitive and friendly spending 15 minutes just asking questions and getting to understand all we had been through. He fully examined Tino, looked at the previous lab tests done by the other veterinarians and diagnosed an intestinal disease with no other immediate tests, just some follow up over the following weeks. I can only compare the vets I have been to, but Dr. Banister and his staff are the most compassionate, caring, and thorough that I kow of. I would strongly urge you to take your pet to Hoppenstedt Veterinary Hospital. They will care for your pet like it is their own. I know,They did mine! Now he is completely healthy, thanks to Dr. Banister and his staff. Pros: Great Doctors, Awesome Staff, Awesome Facility Cons: Tight Parking more

Poor Veterinary Medicine at Hoppenstedt 2/13/2007

First off, the name of the second doctor is Dr. POWERS! Dr Judson POWERS! thank you very much. and he is BY FAR! the best doctor there. Dr Banister, I heard him talking negatively about me as soon as i left the room, I tried calling him and he never returns my phone calls and his truck is always there. If you let your dog board there, your going to get over charged AND your dog might end up in a fight with another dog. What kind of care is that for your animal? He is also very pushy with what he wants done to the animal and has no concern for the clients financial problems. Then there is the office manager, Dorothea, who ALWAYS has an attitude. She is rude with the clients and is money hungry and doesnt care about the animals but only a profit. The receptionists are often crying after being yelled at from Dr Banister. NEVER go here! you animal may die........ thank you Pros: Fireplace Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE! more

Dr. Banister is New York's Best! 12/12/2005

What an incredible office..the atmosphere is cozy, the staff are sweet and attentive, and the doctors, actually care about their animals and their animals owners...Dr. Banister is by far the most amazing veterinarian I've introduced my cats to. He has a great sense of humor, he's professional, really knows his stuff, and he's so caring and good with the animals, and the people who bring them in. He and his partner Dr. Judson respond to calls immediately, when they're on call. Best Veterinarian in NY! :) Pros: Dr. Banister, Treatment, Environment more
