Avoid this place! I don't why the ratings are so high, but this place is a rip-off!! The guy pulled out a binder to check the price to "tune-up" my car & quoted me $125. When I picked it up, the guy informed me that was only to change my spark plugs!!! A 10 minute job, for $125. \r Also, when I asked how much to change my headlight, he quoted me $30-$50, for ONE headlight. He then told me I can purchase one there for $18.00. I then bought one at O'Reilly for $10.00 more

I broke down in Stockton, on my way to Manteca for New Years. Matt from Looney's towing recomended Honest Automotive. It's kind of a craps shoot and I was worried about getting jipped off. These guys were great! I did get delayed by 1 day because of the holiday schedule, but that's to be expected. It was awesome working with Michael and he was really supportive in getting me back on the road. Thanks guys! more

This is my new mechanic! I brought my truck to get my 50,000 mile service done. I was expecting to pay almost $600 from what the dealership was telling me. They only charged me $161 for the work that was needed including all of the dealer recommended inspections. This place is honest and will get all of my business forever. I tell all of my friends and family that when you find an honest shop that knows how to fix cars, stick with them even if other shops will do it cheaper. more

I brought my 2000 Ford Taurus in for an oil change for about $40 and they did little extras, such as topping off my fluids (power steering, transmission fluid, etc). I was especially pleased that my windshield washer fluid was filled because it had been low but I never thought to mention it. They took care of it for me. It was a nice surprise. They also let me know that if I needed something done in the future, they would check it out and put the check out fee towards the repair of the car, so I wouldn't get charged two check out fees if I decided to bring my car back a different day when I had money. I did end up needing brake pads which came with a lifetime warranty! They really are Honest at Honest Automotive. Thanks for great service! more

So I went to Honest Automotive to have an alignment done. I dropped off the vehicle and a few hours later I received a call advising me that there was a problem and that it would be a higher cost to fix the problem in addition to the alignment. So I told them I'll just go to pick up my vehicle. When I get there I am told that I need to pay for them checking on it, a total nearly as much as I would have paid just for an alignment, yet there was nothing done to the car. I argued that I was told I would be charged for an alignment, not for checking on the vehicle. ""John"" said he assumed I knew. What kind of service is that? I ended up just taking my business elsewhere, and they checked (AT NO COST) and made sure whether the repair can be done. BEWARE that if you go to honest automotive, make sure that they disclose everything that will be charged before handing them the keys. Otherwise they will assume you already knew. more

I would like to comment on Honest Automotive...I have been going to them for more than ten years and I have never been treated better or more honestly by any other business I have ever used to fix my car. John at Honest Automotive is a reliable mechanic with years of experience and he runs an excellent shop of respectable mechanics and they go beyond the norm to make sure their customers are satisfied with their vehicles maintenance. This is my second time at this garage and both times the quote did not match the actual repair price. The quoted me a 246.00 price for a blower motor fan which only costs 134.00 at Auto Zone. In addition they wanted 2 hrs to put it in when it only takes four simple steps without pulling the dash. BEWARE>>>> more

I took my daughters 98 Nissan with moderate front end damage to some repair shops in Manteca, the first quote I got was for $3200 which was what I played for the car. Out of desperation I took it several other places with no luck. Then I took it to Honest Automotive, I told john My daughter just needs a car to drive to school and work and I did not have the money for a full repair. He was very understanding and offered to do some cosmetic work and make the car drivable. quote was $750, very reasonable. the car looks great and my bill was $750.55. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else!! Thank You John. more

We had long been searching for a mechanic since moving out to Manteca from San Jose. We found Honest Automotive through recommendations online. What a blessing! The owner, John, has great people skills. He greets customers in a friendly manner with a smile on his face. John responds promptly to questions and service requests. Of course, there is a lot of activity at the shop, but in the midst of the action, John took the time to explain what was repaired on our car so that we walked away as knowledgeable customers. The prices are reasonable and the service was excellent and timely. Look no further for a great mechanic...you'll find what you need at Honest Automotive! more

If you need a trustworthy and competant mechanic, then you need John at Honest Automotive. My wife and I were in nearby Lathrop, CA for the weekend working. As we were preparing to leave town on a Monday, our fuel pump quit working unexpectedly on our Chevy truck while we were at the Post Office. We didn't know where to turn for help. We found Honest Automotive and John set us up with a great tow driver and John set on repairing our truck immediately. They fixed the problem and we left paying less than we really expected to pay elsewhere. Great business! I feel good knowing I have a mechanic in Manteca if I need John again. more

The name says it all. I took my car to Honest Auto for a 30,000 mile service and I was so happy with the service and prices I received. I thought I would have to pay 5 or 600 bucks, instead it was a little over 300. The mechanic told me that most of what the dealer does is CHECK everything and charge you as if they fixed it. He did check everything they check but didn't charge me to fix it because it obviously wasn't broken. I will always take all of my cars to Honest because I trust them and I know I can afford them. more
