The restaurant offered great service and tasty food. It was only a small place but the staff was very accommodating. more

Yummy Japanese Tapas 12/3/2010

Except for their service that seems to be inconsistent, their food is delicious. The aroma alone makes me want to sit there forever. Our favorites: yaki soba, sashimi bowl, agedashi tofu, soft-shell crab appetizer, menmochi (if you like mochi & cheese, this is a must), chicken karage, takoyaki, Japanese beef with mushroom, beef tongue, meatball, spicy jumbo shrimp, scallop (though they overcook it sometimes) & bacon wrapped anything (yum!) Their cream anmitsu for dessert is a must. It's makes a perfect ending. I particularly enjoy them with azuki (red-bean) ice-cream. more

A Real Japanese experience 6/26/2009

This is real Japanese food. There is a sushi bar and even a room to sit on the floor. Great Fun.\r \r There is usually a wait so be prepared. Its worth it/ I love the skewers. Bacon wrapped Asparagus and the Large prawns are the family favorite. Try the ponsu beef. Its a real treat! Pros: GREAT FOOD more

Great 4/21/2009

Great food, service, clean location located in old town Tustin. Just plan on taking a few extra minutes if you go durring prime hours, but the food is worth the wait.. Pros: Food, location, clean Cons: Sometimes busy more

Great Izakaya!! AUTHENTIC! 3/10/2009

I have lived in Japan for 27 years and going to Hond Ya is like eating at a good izakaya in Tokyo except for the American beer. \r \r They have a good variety of food and authentically prepared. Offers items not commonly found at other Japanese restaurants so it draws Japanese customers from far away. \r \r Definitely worth trying!\r Pros: Just like being in Japan! Cons: Crowded! more

Delicious! lots of small dishes to choose from and share!!! 2/8/2009

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Orange County. I love Japanese and I love Tapas...so this place is kind of an Asian Tapas place with all it's small dishes to order and share. Try the miso eggpant and the butterfish....yum!!! The Cheese Age and also the bacon wrapped Okra A+++ Pros: Lots of different dishes to choose from-inexpensive too Cons: long waits on weekends more

Good Sushi For a Late Night 11/11/2008

It's good to finally see a good sushi place open late around here. Sometimes you just get that craving after a night out and now I know where to go. It's pretty much always busy (the 2 times I've been) but the servers are really nice and try to take care of you as fast as possible. Their hot items are pretty standard, but still good, but their rolls are definitely choice. I'd recommend coming early to enjoy it more, but its great no matter what time you go. Pros: Food, service, open late more

amazing food quality is dropping but still better than most. 3/6/2008

OK... so i have been going to Honda Ya for a few years now and have seen its growth for those of you who are dual yelp users this is an amazing restaurant the izakaya style is wonderful for the late night diner but remember the lines to eat are always growing and the food quality is going down with its growing popularity.\r But trust me its worth trying. Wow ginger pork.. Pros: great food, ambience Cons: price, service, long lines more

Great for group outtings, tons of fun! 1/27/2007

This is a great example of what a fun restaurant should be. This is not a romantic spot nor is it a place for a quiet evening. This is a place to grab a few friends and enjoy the food, drinks and company. There are booths as well as one large community area where you will sit elbow to elbow with fellow patrons. This isn't a place to order entrees. The style is simple, snack and drink to your heart's content. The ""Yaki-tori"" is all on a stick, ranging from chicken hearts (very recommended) to bacon wrapped asparagus to quail eggs. There is more on the menu however. There are rice dishes, noodle dishes and side dishes. I recommend the Tako-Yaki (lil squid-balls). Although the beer is a lil pricey (it's almost always pricey at Japanese restaurants) the food is very reasonable. For fun times and great food go to Honda Ya. Pros: tasty vitels, fun atmosphere, great crowd Cons: No reservations, weekends = a little wait more

Best Yakitori on the West Side! 3/4/2006

I love this place! Very traditional Japanese food you will not find anywhere else in California...including Little Tokyo. Great place to bring a big group and get a pitcher of beer and some of their delicious yakitori (they give you a list similar to a sushi one that lets you check all of the different types of meats you want to order). Try something new on the menu everytime you go...you'll find that they have geat items that will keed you coming back. The waiter's are super friendly and helpful too...just don't be shy to ask for service sometimes since it does get busy quite often. Mostly japanese customers but mixed crowd more often now that more people are finding out about this place. Pros: Great Food, Good Ambience, Friendly Nice Service Cons: Long Wait more

Nothing Fancy, But Very Good! 12/22/2005

This local Japanese restaurant has inventive and traditional sushi, as well as hot pots, and other conventional Japanese fare. We had an outstanding beef and tofu hot pot, and a couple very fresh types of sushi rolls. We saw ahi tuna salad at the next table that looks good too. My friend and I were the only non-Japanese customers there. There's good reason it's popular with the locals. Pros: fresh, inventive, authentic more

best AUTHENTIC Japanese Food!! 6/6/2004

I have been to countless Japanese restaurants in California and none of them feel and tast as Japanese as this one. Although they have the standard ""Americanized"" Japanese meals, they also provide many authentic dishes that often cannot even be found in little Tokyo. The resteraunt service is also more of the Japanese style, so call the waiters over if you dont want to wait a long time for service. Even the atmosphere puts me back in the middle of a Tokyo restaurant!! Pros: Authentic, Good Atmosphere, DELICIOUS Cons: , only open 5pm-1pm more
