Three years ago I purchased a home in which Hobson's had recently installed a new A/C and furnace, and the previous owner had also purchased a maintenance agreement (spring and fall tune-ups) for $192.00 a year.
While I was agreeable with keeping the maintenance contract going, it took two and three calls a week FOR SIX WEEKS to get a copy of the contract - I was unwilling to sign up without knowing what was and was not covered. I was frustrated with Hobson's absolute incompetence and their inability to mail (or email) a copy of the contract. I was repeatedly told they'd ""just put it in the mail"" or ""it would go out in tonight's mail"", and of course it never arrived. Finally I asked to speak with the owner (surprise - he was not available), so I left a message for him and two days later the contract arrived by certified mail.
In spring 2008 I asked Hobson's for their price to add blow-in attic insulation (1500sf home) and was quoted $1100.00. After looking around a little, I found a small local company that did it for me and only charged $400.00.
Fast forward to today (summer 2009), and I'm looking for ways to trim my budget. A very good company I dealt with in the past - Brown A/C in Richland Hills offers the same spring & fall tune up service contract for just $142.00. I've recently signed a contract with Brown and terminated the contract with Hobson's. Hobson's has gotten their last penny from me.
I recommend you find someone other than Hobson's to do your A/C and heating work. Research Angie's List for highly-rated service people - people like you and me rate companies and individuals for price, quality of work, reliability, punctuality, and also details of the work performed, problems encountered and resolutions reached.
Cons: Over-priced, poor customer service
