Thank you for everything you've done to make the wedding reception special for our daughter and son-in-law! Chelsea was excited about having it at The Wilhite House from the day ...

Worst

1. The food was fantastic. 2. The carriage was awesome. 3. The wedding planner (Casey) provided as an optional paid for service though the wilhite house went above and beyond. ...

Thank You Both 3/22/2011

How can Erik & I even begin to thank you for making all of our wedding day dreams come true! Now that it's all said and done, I miss our regular witty banter, and back and forth emails about spectacular ideas and gourmet cheese! Thank you both for all your hard work and meticulous attention to detail to make sure everything was perfect. Our guests are still commenting how beautiful the property was, how convenient it was to have everything at one location and of course how professional & courteous the staff were. I couldn't agree more! Patrick made a huge impression and having Katie serving fresh lemonade to our guests as they arrived really made an over-the-top impression. It was the ultimate show of hospitality, making our guests feel like I had welcomed them each with a hug as they stepped into my home. Josh, the DJ was wonderfully accommodating to all of our guests, and followed our every request to the """"T"""" and EVERYONE enjoyed the karaoke. The food was incredible and the presentation was far beyond even some of the higest-end hotels that I've seen. I sincerely appreciate how you and Cheryl took the time out of your hectic day to get to know Erik and I so that our wedding genuinely reflected us as individuals. Every single touch: the goldfish, fruit carving and decoration was exactly the way I would have wanted and more than I had ever dreamed! Our dear friend """"the crazy Italian lady"""" who is a true European Diplomat, told my father the day after the event that ours was her first American wedding. She commented that it was as grand and fanciful as the most prestigious dignitary balls she had attended, but infinitely more fun and intimate. Please give big hugs to Cheryl, Katie, Patrick, Scott, Josh, little D'artanion and the rest of the Crew who worked so hard to make our wedding day such a huge success! more

Pretty Sweet Place 3/16/2011

Everything from the breathtaking gardens, the beautiful brides room, incredible food, the friendly, professional staff, DJ and horse & carriage was just perfect. I can not imagine a more elegant, beautiful location for my wedding! I would recommend it to anyone! And I have! I have two friends who will be married soon and at least one of them is going to choose The Wilhite House. more

You Made My Wedding ! 3/10/2011

I want to thank you for making my Wedding Day memorable. It was talked about amongst my guests for several weeks. I cannot thank you enough! From the very first day you took the time to offer suggestions, listen to my ideas and help make them a reality. You were patient throughout the entire process. When I wasn't sure about something you made me feel at ease. The horse and carriage was a ""huge"" hit...I owe all my thanks to you as my guests were able to enjoy it as well. Thank you for providing the doves; they were the added touch. I know I had a lot of details in my wedding and you, along with the coordinator, made it a success. Although you don't call yourself a ""coordinator"" by name, you played a very vital role. You were a true Godsend. You have such a humble spirit and you didn't mind sharing your thoughts and ideas with me. You and your husband were very cordial throughout the entire year of planning. There was never a change in your disposition or the atmosphere that you have created for The Wilhite House. The food was impeccable. Your suggestions were dead on the money; from the Mashed Potato Maritini's to the Chocolate Fountain. Everything was a hit! Elegance was what I wanted and elegance was what I received. more

Thank You All 2/28/2011

Thanks to you and your staff ,our daughter, Rebecca had a fairy tale wedding. We were so pleased with everything. The beautiful table scape and the lavished buffet tables with hors d'oeuvres that were outstanding awed all of us. The wedding cake was amazing, I have never tasted any better than yours and it was elegant. The groom's cake was an awesome chocolate delight for all of us! We so enjoyed giving our guest the carriage rides. It was so magical to see our daughter come around the gardens in the carriage. It was a breathless moment. Our son-in-law, Will, was so excited to ride the Cadillac convertible up to the wedding. They both loved leaving in the convertible. Our guests were awed by the historical setting and the romantic atmosphere of the Wilhite House. Our guests told us it was the most luxurious wedding they had attended. Marc and I both agreed that it was money well spent for a day that will always be remembered with family and friends. Thank you for all your time and effort to make this day possible for us. more

The house is incredible! 2/2/2011

I had the most wonderful experience here from start to finish! The house is incredible! A beautiful old mansion full of southern charm. It was very convenient; everything from the catering to the centerpieces was taken care of. The owners and staff made me feel like I was part of the family, very accommodating. We would recommend this facility for any occasion. more

It was absolutely beautiful. 1/31/2011

I just want to tell everyone the great experiecne we had here. All of our family members were from out of town and were very impressed with the house, the grounds (beautiful gardens), decorations and most of all the Food! We were very pleased with the way everything was handled . It was absolutely beautiful. We would be glad to recommend The Wilhite House to anyone planning an event. more

The Wilhite House has a special thing going 1/26/2011

We wanted to write to say how much we enjoyed our wedding at The Wilhite House. You wouldn't believe the compliments that we have gotten from our guests about the house, the decorations and the food! Even people who didn't come to the wedding, but have seen the pictures, commented on how beautiful the house and garden were! I had one guest tell me that she always wanted her daughters to elope, but when she saw me arriving in the carriage, she reconsidered!! It was everything and more than I had ever pictured my wedding being! The Wilhite House has a special thing going and I wish them the best! more

We loved every minute of it! 1/24/2011

I just wanted to drop you a note and tell you how fabulous Sarah & BJ's wedding was. It was like a ""fairy-tale"" wedding. Everything went so smoothly and the guests all commented on how beautiful it was. They loved everything from the food and the displays to the fruit carving and the decor. I had several out-of-town guests and they fell in love with The Wilhite House. I wish I could relive the day in slow motion. It was a wonderful beginning to Sarah & BJ's marriage. Thank you so much for having this wonderful place in Anderson to have weddings. We loved every minute of it! more

it was GORGEOUS 1/10/2011

Katie and I was married at the Wilhite House last September, and it was GORGEOUS! The wife and I were hoping for a sunny outdoor wedding, but it poured. So, the creative minds at the Wilhite House still made it possible for us to have our outdoor wedding in their beautiful pavilion. It was PERFECT! They also made our wedding cake for us, and it was exactly what we were envisioning. It was by far the best cake I've ever had, period. I could go on and on about the food they made. Everything was melt in your mouth delicious. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding. I want other couples to have just as perfect wedding as ours, so I am currently the executive Chef of the mobile catering. more

Horrible staff, owner, DJ, etc., etc., etc.!!!!!!!!! 6/24/2010

The house is beautiful. That is about the only thing that is good about this place. \r \r The owner is rude and very unprofessional. They talk a good game and sell you the reception of your dreams until the day of the event. That is when the true colors come out. She will ""nickel and dime"" you to death and even then they will still sell you short. She wouldn’t even put water in our toast glasses and I had to leave the toasting to fill up our glasses with champagne. I was very humiliated to say the least. \r \r Did I mention the cake? It was good, according to the few guests that actually got a piece. My wife and I wouldn’t know because we never got a piece. \r \r Did I mention the DJ? The DJ plays on his phone the whole time, and is just as rude as the owner. We would have been better off bringing our IPods and letting them play on shuffle mode. \r \r Did I mention the food? Well the food was ok. My wife and I were about 45 minutes late to the reception due to photos. Since we were a little late, she denied our $400 security deposit. Her reasoning was that the food had gotten cold. I don't think that should be a concern of hers since I paid an outrageous amount for the food anyway.\r \r If you don't utilize her business for all phases of your wedding (wedding, reception, photography, flowers, planner, etc.), then you can pretty much kiss your deposit goodbye. \r \r There were several other negative that came about at the reception that I didn’t even know about until after the reception. I know at least 50 of the 75 guests that attended had some sort of negative comment and/or experience with the owners/staff. \r \r I deeply regret the sole fact that I did not research the reviews prior to contracting the Wilhite House. Every negative review on this business was right on target with our experience. \r \r I am terribly sorry to my friends and family that attended our reception at the Wilhite House. It was truly embarrassing for my wife and I as to how the owner of this business acted on the most important day of our lives. \r Cons: rude to the guests, family, and the bride and groom more

My Dream Wedding 12/9/2009

The Wilhite House made our wedding day enjoyable, calm, and forever memorable. They offer the DJ, savory food, wedding cake, decoration, coordinator, and even photography, all for a phenomenal price! This really is the all-inclusive package.\r \r The Wilhite House offered creativity that many venues simply do not; they work with the bride in order to achieve her dream-day. I gave Lori a single photo of flowers, and she & Cheryl were able to produce a tablescape that not only matched my colors perfectly, but was breathtaking. I felt like the only & most important bride in the world!\r \r Did I mention the cake?\r They offer a unique alternative to traditional cake—the Faux cake (I highly recommend it). Existing of only one “real” layer, the faux cake allows the bride & groom to have the “cutting of the cake” while guests are served immediately and without mess. Cake embellishment is nearly limitless as it doesn’t have to be edible! As far as the quality of the cake, this was something from Grandma’s kitchen (the raspberry sauce drizzled over each individual piece made this cake superlative). Lori also crafted a divine chocolate-on-chocolate groom’s cake that was out of this world visually, not to mention, mouth-watering!\r \r We chose the buffet style hors d’oeuvres, and I couldn’t have been happier. As mentioned, the tablescape was custom designed and complete with fruit & vegetable carvings. The food was elegant and of course, delicious. The cranberry based punch is a must-have. \r \r We also chose Lori to be our photographer—a choice I am forever grateful! She was professional, creative, and willing to get down and dirty (ie lie down in the grass) to get those shots that other photographers simply miss. \r \r The Wilhite House was everything I dreamed my wedding would be. The beautiful grounds, décor of the historic home, friendly staff, and careful attention to detail make this venue truly magical and unique from others. \r \r To Lori, Cheryl, and Wilhite House staff-- thank you so much for making my day unforgettable!!!!! \r Pros: wonderful cake, beautiful setting, friendly staff Cons: Possibility of inclement weather more

Exceeded my Expectations 12/5/2009

I recently coordinated a wedding at The Wilhite House. After we booked I found several negative reviews online and was secretly very concerned. Every time we met with Lori and the staff they were friendly and professional which contradicted the reviews, yet as the day approached I have to admit I was nervous. \r \r Boy was I surprised, right at the very beginning Lori caught a potential problem that we had overlooked and scrambled around to fix it. The staff was prompt, courteous and professional. The music went exactly as planned and the dance floor was full…the DJ was friendly and funny. The food was exceptional, as weddings go, as was the cake and punch. The facility was beautiful. And at the end of the night, I told Lori about the negative reviews and gave her my word I would write a positive review on that site, which is why I am writing today.\r \r After much contemplation looking back on my friend’s wedding day, compared to the negative reviews, I am convinced that some people don’t read the paperwork, they don’t appreciate the fact that any place you go is going to have guidelines, and that just because you rent a place, doesn’t mean you can do what ever you want, however you want and maybe, just maybe, the very people who write that everything was so bad, had such a bad attitude that it caused the bad situation (if there even was a bad situation!)\r \r In closing, I would like to add that a person who writes that one thing wasn’t perfect: cake, music, food, etc., might be taken seriously. But a person who writes that everything is wrong is just plain vindictive.\r more

Unprofessional is an Understatement 12/2/2009

This place advertises to be all inclusive and is anything but. We were nickle and dimed left and right. The staff was rude to us and our guests, the DJ was playing with his phone instead of playing music, he was rude to anyone who made a request. They didn't serve us champaign for the toast, they took us to the wrong hotel. And they were rude and unprofessional about everything come the day of the wedding. Beware, they talk a good game and sell you a fairytale, but all they deliver is a nightmare. If you were hoping for stress free, all inclusive, and affordable like I was, this place will seriously disapoint both you and your bank account. Pros: cake was good Cons: rude and unaccomadating, no customer service more

The wedding of our dreams, at a price we could afford 11/27/2009

My experience at the Wilhite House was nothing short of extraordinary. I chose the Wilhite House even though it was hours away, because they offered all of the high-end details that would have cost 4 times as much in my home town. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I knew that this was the place I would have the wedding fairytale I had always dreamed of. I was immediately greeted with the perfect mix of professionalism and southern hospitality (I would have never guessed they were from the West cost!) I never felt like I was being ""sold"" anything, Lori and the rest of the staff were always going above and beyond to attend to every detail and solve every problem, even ones I hadn't considered. And when I asked for something unique (serving lemonade to our guests as they arrived for a touch of southern hospitality), Lori and her creative team zipped into action to make it happen! The chef, Cheryl, even found my favorite and rare cheese for our buffet table! Having this professional staff handle every detail was incredibly helpful, especially since I was planning my wedding from out of town. All of the terms were clearly explained to me, every email and phone call was answered promptly and courteously. And when I showed up the morning before my wedding, it was perfect! Not a petal out of place! The food was a show stopper! It was as delicious as it was beautiful. From the intricate fruit carvings to the fresh raspberry puree served alongside my chocolate wedding cake, every bite was tasty! And the guests kept going back for more! And boy, do these west-coasters know their wine! Josh, the DJ, and I corresponded beforehand and created a script and playlist. He was very professional and did an excellent job engaging the crowd. People danced until the very last song and LOVED the karaoke! We had guests from all over the country and a European diplomat in attendance. Even now we're still getting compliments on how our wedding was both comfortable and elegant and was a perfect representation of both my husband and I. I couldn't have asked for more competent, professional and downright friendly people to work with to make my wedding happen. The Monroe's were truly a blessing to us, our family and our guests. And I'm proud to call them friends. Pros: elegant, delicious, professional, affordable more

Great Place for your event 11/27/2009

I had my event at the WIlhite House and it was the best decision I could have ever made.\r \r All I had to do was show up! Every detail was taken care of by Lori and her competent staff. I enjoyed working with them during our planning sessions and on the day of my event....awesome attitudes and great personalities! Food was delicious, staff friendly and helpful, my guest were very impressed.\r \r What can I say other than if you are looking for a venue that will do it all with no worries I highly recommend the Wilhite House.\r \r Pros: Organized, Pleasant more

A Full Service Venue 11/26/2009

The Wilhite House has had over 175 weddings over the past 5 years and our list of happy brides far exceeds the list of those who have not been pleased. A long list of testimonies from very happy brides can be found at our WilhiteHouse website on the testimony page. \r \r It would not be honest to say that all brides have been happy about everything we do but it is truthful to say that myself and our staff put sincere effort, energy and determination into each and every wedding to assure it is as close to perfect as possible.\r \r Because we are a full service facility and offer all of the components of a wedding, it leaves us open to more scrutiny than we would get if we offered just the venue, just the catering, or just the cake, etc. On the flip side of that, we offer so many of the components that it saves time and effort on the bride's part when pulling her wedding together. And, there is never a guarentee that other vendors would do things any different than we do.\r \r When reading reveiws of The Wilhite House that are unfavorable, we are committed to looking at them realistically and not simply dismissing them as unjust. When a person writes that virtually everything was wrong with a wedding, right down the the way we were dressed, I honestly have to say that that person is writing with prejudice and inaccuracy... Our weddings are beautiful and the majority of the time come off without a hitch!! \r \r Myself and my husband moved to Anderson in 2004 and opened for business in 2005. When we arrived we didn't know anyone; our family being on the west coast. Today we have a long list of friends and many of them are former brides and their famlies!! In fact we receive invitations to celebrations nearly every year from famlies of former brides! Likewise, former wedding famlies are on our invitation list to parties. I have a former bride who lives in Charlotte who stops by to visit or bring a surprise gift (she knows exaclty what I like!) everytime she and her husband are in Anderson. And I, in turn send her home with home baked cookies! She, like many others, were so pleased with The Wilhite House and myself and my husband, that we have become long-term friends.\r \r When a bride makes the decision to book her wedding at The Wilhite House, we make a committment to offering as much assistance as possible to make her day perfect: we have installed dimmer switches throughout the house because a bride asked that we dim the lighting, we have made curtains for privacy because a bride told us she would like to eat in a room where no one could see her. \r We also make it a point to ""gift"" something to every bride, whether it is the cake platform, upgrade to the centerpieces, upgrade to the reception chair ties or one of our other great options.\r \r We have built our business with n honesty that includes providing ALL the costs of a wedding including tax, gratuity and security deposit before a bride chooses to book...we do not hide anything. \r \r Also, it is noteworthy to mention that at least 50% of our staff, including our chef, are family members of former events...The Wilhite House must have made these people very happy in order for them to desire to work here.\r \r We know that you will find negative reviews on this site. I have considered contacting our happy brides and asking them to plaster this site with positive reviews but decided instead, to approach it personally and with integrity and trust that those who read reviews will acknowledge that there are ALWAYS two sides to a story and will take the time to look on our website at the positive reviews that are posted there as well.\r \r We invite any of you to meet with us, become facebook friends with us and dozens or our brides, past, present & future, question us about your concerns and allow us to share our side to the story!\r \r Lori Monroe, Owner\r The Wilhite House, LLC \r \r more

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!! 9/3/2009

DO NOT use this site. The staff is very nice until they get your money. After you have signed the contract, they try to get as much money out of you as possible. Although your wedding is supposed to be the way you want it and a magical experience, the Wilhite House staff seeks to get as much as they can out of it and really make it their day instead of yours. The staff is not professional in dress or demeanor. The grounds are not taken care of. If you are trying not to spend all the money in the world, DO NOT USE THIS SITE!\r \r Children are made to feel unwelcome. If you have children in your wedding party (e.g. ring bearer, flower girl, junior bridesmaid/groomsman) definitely have your wedding somewhere else. They will be stalked the whole time.\r \r Also, check the caterring clause before booking. The food is not good like the staff promises. After tasting the food, you will want to book somewhere else.\r \r The DJ is very unprofessional and rude. He expects to get paid for doing very little or no work.\r \r Also, if you have already booked with this place do not sign the paper allowing them to post pictures of you on the website--this is not what they want to do at all. They want the pictures to steal your ideas and to steal your security deposit.\r \r ONE STAR WAS GIVEN BECAUSE GIVING NO STARS WAS NOT AN OPTION. This is an awful venue! Cons: Where to begin... more

Horrible Owner 9/2/2009

If you are not planning on paying a butt load of money do not even think of using this location. Lori the owner will pretend to be nice until you sign the contract. From there she tries her hardest to swindle you out of as much money as possible. She is VERY unprofessional and rude. Her son the ""DJ"" was very inappropriate and unprofessional as well. Unless you have over $30000 to spend do not waste your time here find another location! Pros: None whatsoever Cons: Owner is a theif and a liar more
