I would never recomend anyone to take your pets there at all!

A great veterinary practice 10/21/2011

We started going to Hillsborough Veterinary clinic over 10 years ago. We were fostering a dog through Independent Animal Rescue, and the agency referred us to Dr. Mac to provide heartworm treatment for her. She had been disfigured on the nose through animal abuse and Dr. Mac repaired her nose as a courtesy, on top of the other expensive treatments he was providing. Since then we've been loyal customers and have worked primarily with Dr. Mac and Dr. Goss. The doctors are kind and compassionate toward their patients and owners. They don't recommend unnecessary treatment, but encourage owners to make responsible decisions. Their prices are fair and the medical care is top notch. The support staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, and always treat us kindly. Over the years I have tried 4 veterinary practices in the triangle, and this one is by far the best. It has it all -- a kind and friendy small-town feel, high quality medical care, and reasonable treatment recommendations and prices. more

Good Service-High Price 4/16/2011

My family has been bringing my dog Baxter to the Hillsboro Veterinary Clinic for almost 6 years now. It is close and convenient, and I've never had a bad experience here. They are a little pricy but, I would pay for it for the excellent service I give it 5 stars for quality 4 stars for price. My dog has a lump on his leg and we brought him into the vet to check it. They checked up on it, and they gave us a quote to remove it. $800. We paid $800 for him. The surgery is going to cost just as much as we paid for him. I trust them with my dog, but I do not like their prices too much. My friend recommended I go to her vet, Companion Vet Clinic. I read up reviews and they are horrible. I went with her one time, and I will never go again. I like their prices, but I don't like what I've heard from them. I trust my vet, and I will continue to stick with them. My grandparents brought their dog here because she was limping on her left leg. They charged them $211 and they said there was nothing wrong and they didn't know what was up. We found out from a local friend that she had sprained it (and they didn't charge us a penny). Overall I have had a great experience here, but they have been a little on the pricy side. I would recommend this vet to a friend, but make sure if you take your animal here, that you have some money stored away. more

We miss Hillsborough Veterinary Clinic 2/13/2011

I was a regular customer to Hillsborough Veterinary Clinic during my time in the Chapel Hill area (about 1.5 yrs) and we were very sad to leave and start over in the search for a comparable vet (which I have yet to find). The entire staff receive my five-star compliments for being professional, responsive, caring, and also very friendly. My experience is based on bringing in my special needs dog with Cushing's Disease for regular visits, having to come in for a few emergency visits (including an operation to remove a tumor on my dog's toe), and bringing my cat in for annual check ups. My primary vet was Dr. Goss- she is FABULOUS and I'd highly recommend her, in particular. I was thrilled to discover she was also very knowledgeable about Cushing's, as well as the medications available for treating the disease. After ""testing out"" a few other area vets, I am very confident this is your best bet. more

We trust Dr. Mac with our babies' lives! 12/13/2010

We have a habit of having ""special needs"" kitties. Over the years, we've dealt with tumors, FIV, FIP, congenital fused paw, pregnant stray and ensuing kittens, kidney failure, and the like. Dr. Mac and Dr. Goss have seen us through it all. They have referred us to a specialty clinic when necessary (FIP) and have managed chronic conditions (FIV, Kidney failure) successfully. For those who have reached the rainbow bridge, they were gentle with the kitty and with us, easing the crossing, and supporting us afterwards. They have always been very gentle with our guys, and one of our cats, who had a bad experience at a previous vet, has now settled in and walks around like he owns the place, so comfortable is he. They respond quickly to phone inquiries and have helped us avoid unnecessary trips to the vet as well! We love Dr. Mac, and our kitties do too! Occasionally, during the summer, there is an odd smell from the groomer next door, but the care we've gotten has been more than enough to outweigh that! more

Great compassionate care 6/14/2010

My cat was getting old and not doing to well. Had used Piedmont in the past and had a bad experience there. I got a referral to use Dr. Mac at Hillsborough Veterinary Clinic. They were quick to serve me in this difficult time and upfront about the fees. I would whole heartedly recommend Dr. Mac and Hillsborough Veterinary Clinic to anyone without any reservations. Thank you for helping me through this difficult time.\r SS Pros: Upfront about fees more

Best vet I have ever used 4/23/2010

I have been taking my pets (dogs and cats) to the Hillsborough Veterinary Clinic for ten years and have always been more than satisfied with their care of my animals. Dr. Mac is not only a wonderful vet but he is practical -- I have never felt pressured to spend more on my animals that was necessary and I have always trusted their diagnoses. I had one dog with a torn cruciate ligament which was diagnosed immediately and we were referred to an excellent surgeon in Raleigh to repair it. All of my dogs have various special needs and this clinic has been sensitive to my opinions on caring for each one of them. I wouldn't trust my dogs to any other vet. Pros: Kind, practical, professional, knowledgeable more

Good local veterinary practice with a kind touch 4/14/2010

I have taken my many pets to this practice over the past 24 years and have never had a negative experience. The folks there are helpful, efficient, and knowledgeable. In fact, I think these are some of the kindest, most competent professionals I have ever encountered. There are always relaxed dogs and cats lounging around behind the counter, the entire place is oriented to a love of animals. I have read the negative comments posted by one customer and while I am sorry that bad experience happened, I have never had any problems at all at Hillsborough Veterinary Hospital and entrust my beloved pets to them without hesitation. Pros: experienced, competent staff and easygoing atmosphere more

Worst vet I've ever had to deal with 1/27/2010

Last year my dog had a partially torn cruciate ligament. (Reader FYI: torn cruciate ligament is like a torn ACL--painful and will cause a severe limp) When symptoms first appeared, I made an appointment at the close by Hillsborough Vet Clinic. The first vet we saw there was very nice and recommended an XRay of her knee, even though he indicated it was probably a torn ligament. (X-rays do not show any damage to soft tissue--a wasted $150). We went back for a 2nd visit, since the x-ray was ""inconclusive"". We saw a different vet this time, who suggested that my dog probably had an insect borne disease--so she ordered a bunch of expensive blood work (and scared the living-bejesus out of me). When those tests came back inconclusive, I brought my dog back a third time--for the lyme disease specific blood test that this doctor kept insisting must be the problem. Though I was under the impression the lyme disease titer would be performed, the doctor repeated the same expensive tests she had done on the last visit--we were now up to almost $200 in blood work. Our visit became an even bigger nightmare after that. The receptionist indicated the clinic would give my dog her rabbies vaccine, since it was due ""soon"". After a quick peek at her chart, I said No (to receptionist, tech and vet) to the vaccine because she wasn't due for another 8 months. My mistake was leaving the exam room to go to the bathroom. Upon my return, the vet was in the process of vaccinating my dog. NEVER have I heard of a vet doing this after a client specifically says no. The icing on the cake? They charged me for the vaccine (oh yeah, another $80). Don't risk your pets' health with this group. Over $400 later, I still had no solution to my dog's ailment. (to put this in perspective, this was ~20% of the total cost to have the leg fixed by top-notch surgeons in Cary) My solution? Dr. Szabo, Hidden Valley Animal Hospital in Raleigh. In 20 min and $45, he determined the cause of her limping (partial tear of her C. ligament), offered us several methods to manage her pain, and told us what to look for if/when the ligament tore fully. He was worth every bit of the 45 min drive from Hillsborough. Pros: pros....? Cons: Unnessary testing, vaccinating after told not to more

Excellent doctors, techs and desk staff 9/19/2008

I brought my cat there because he was not feeling well, and Dr. Goss really took the time to discuss everything that might be wrong, and offer alternatives, and trying to keep the cost down. I was so happy that I brought my dog their for a second opinion on ACL surgery. Dr Mac spent alot of time discussing the options including the possibility of skipping the surgery. The staff was great, and the doctors took the time so that I understood and felt that I was making the right decisions. This is where I take my pets from now on. more

My Casey is very happy with Dr. Mac's care 6/11/2008

Hillsborough Vet Clinic is where my dog Casey goes, and he's very happy with Dr. Mac's easy going, professional care. The location is on the other side of the pond from the SportsPlex, for those of you who know the area. That means I can get Casey out of the car, take him for a quick walk and then get great, professional vet treatment.\r There's a groomer next door, but Casey doesn't want to be groomed. \r The prices are well in line with usual good vet costs, and the staff takes time to explain uses and has good background in helping harried owners with little issues. They all care for your pet, since this is really a home-town vet. Of course, they have all the usual meds.\r \r I can't imagine the one disgrunted pet owner's problem not being solved or apologized for by the folks at Hillsborough Vet Clinic. I know sometimes an emergency happens, but I've never had to wait more than maybe 10 minutes for my turn. \r Dr. Mac and Dr. Goss are the kind of vet that gives the hometown vet a warm spot in your heart, since now having a pet is having another member of the family. Pros: Hometown friendly, professional staff and great location. more

Wonderful, friendly place with genuine care for animals 4/19/2008

My neighbor recommended Hillsborough Veterinary Clinic last year, and I couldn't be happier with them. My kitty has had lots of various problems last year with a very confusing autoimmune issue and urinary blockage. Dr. Karen Goss has been consistently excellent both at appointments and in emergencies. She throughly researched our issue, presented every possible option to care for him, and then recommended an option that was actually the least expensive (but effective). I have been to other vets in the area that try to charge you for every little thing they can think of. I could have easily been squeezed out of hundreds of dollars but was not. \r \r My experience has mainly been with Dr. Goss, and she's terrific. She always talks to me like I'm a friend instead of just another number. She knows me and my family when we come in, and has taken the time to talk to me on the phone on several occasions. I saw Dr. Mac for annual exams with my other three cats, and he was also personable and knowledgeable. The crew at the front desk is also terrific, and is extremely helpful and friendly if you have little kids in tow (as I often do). \r \r Just a wonderful place in every way! I can't recommend it enough! Pros: Wonderful, friendly staff and doctors. Inexpensive and knowledgable. Cons: Can't think of any more

Excellent Veterinarians, Technicians, Service!! 1/21/2008

Drs. Roy MacDonald and Karen Goss are excellent, caring vets! Their entire staff is superb, organized, and look me in the eye. Dr. Mac has been very thorough in the recent treatment of our australian shepherd mix. Their office has promptly followed up with us on her care and has been very helpful in her treatment referral to a specialist. Their fees are not exhorbitent. Their office is easy to find and very nice. These people are true animal caregivers. They helped our cats cross over to the rainbow bridge last year in very humane methods and sent us sympathy cards. They even made a research/student donation in honor of our male kitty. \r \r Major Kudos to each person who works at Hillsborough Veterinary Clinic! more

Wonderful, Loving Care 2/9/2007

I have been taking my dog to Hillsborough vetrinary clinic since he was a puppy years ago. I have been thrilled with the care that they provide. I feel like they really care about my dog and remember us both from visit to visit. I would not want to go anywhere else. Dr. MacDonald and the other vets are wonderful Pros: Great Care Cons: Wish they were open later on Saturday's more

Worst service ever! 10/6/2005
