Dr. Holtlzclaw did a dental implant and bone grafting for me. Everything went very well. Much easier than I anticipated. Minimal pain. Maximum satisfaction. Dr. Holtzclaw is very down to earth. He explains everything very thoroughly in a way that even I could understand. I felt very comfortable with him. His office staff is very nice too. more

Funny story here. I needed a dental implant because I had a broken tooth. I was talking to a dentist friend of mine in Florida to ask her some dental questions about my broken tooth. She mentioned dental implant and told me that she had just seen a lecture at a big conference in Florida given by a dentist from Austin! That dentist turned out to be Dr. Holtzclaw! Apparently, he lectures about dental surgery all over the world according to my friend. Well, if my dentist friend in Florida a thousand miles away knew about Dr. Holtzclaw, I figured he was the guy to see. I went to Dr. Holtzclaw and he did my implant. No problems. He definitely has earned his reputation as a great clinician. I can understand why people in other parts of the country ask him to come speak at their conferences because he definitiely knows his stuff! Since I have been a patient at his clinic, Dr. Holtzclaw has lectured in places as far away as Italy! Italy? Come on! You must be doing something right if they ask you to come all the way to Italy to talk. more

I agree with what everyone else here is saying. Dr. Holtzclaw is a smart doc! He figured stuff out with my mouth that 3 other dentists missed! I had unsepecified jaw pain for years and no one could ever figure out what was wrong. Dr. Holtzclaw looked at me for about 5 minutes and figured out the problem. He said that my bite was off and he did an adjustment. The adjustment took about 30 minutes and required no anesthetic. The bite adjustment combined with a few medications and I felt great in just a few days! I spent years in pain going from dentist to dentist. I had root canals done. Crowns. Nothing ever seemed to help. It has now been 6 months since my bite adjustment and I have been pain free the entire time! This is the best I have felt in years! I just don't understand why no one else could figure out my problem and Dr. Holtzclaw like instantly knew what it was. He literally took one look at my xray, did a few measurements on my teeth, and said he knew what the problem was. He explained how the problem caused my pain and it made sense. All I know is that his treatment worked and I am one happy camper! more

Some of the crowns I got in my 30s are having decay problems and at a certain point there is no alternative to extraction. In the last 7 years I have been to 3 or 4 and Dr. Holtzclaw is the 1st that I would wholeheartedly recommend. I really got lucky as he is not only excellent at what he does but I fit into one of his research projects and got the extraction, bone replacement and the implant for about a 3rd of what everyone else is charging. Everyone in his friendly office make a great team and the were all very patient with me (dentist offices make me high strung and nervous). He explained the procedures and answered all my questions and did a great job! I only wish he could be my main dentist as well...that's how comfortable I am with him and his work. more

I recently moved to Austin and needed to find a dentist for my missing teeth. I had lost a few teeth over the years due to gum problems and my dentist where I used to live told me that all I could do was get a denture. Ewww! I did not want a denture! I heard a radio commercial offering "teeth in one day" so I called them up for an appointment. When I got there, they wanted to take out all of my teeth and have me pay something like $50,000! I knew my teeth were bad, but there is no way that they all needed to come out! Plus, I am not rich, so 50 grand was simply out of question (I did not even know you could spend that much on your teeth!) After that eye popping experience, I did a search on the internet for a good implant dentist. Thankfully I found Dr. Holtzclaw! Dr. Holtzclaw had great credentials and reviews. He also offered a free implant consultation, so I got an appointment. What a completely different experience from the first place I went to! His office is very nice and cozy. It does not look or feel like a typical dental office. It just feels very comfortable. Pictures of family and friends on the walls. Plants. Almost like your house, I guess is the best way to put it. Dr. Holtzclaw and his staff were very nice. They are friendly and down to earth. They did not jump right into my mouth ask for money. They got to know me first. Then they did an exam an took xrays. Dr. Holtzclaw then very thoroughly explained what was going on with my mouth. He was very patient and answered every single one of my questions and more. I have never had a doctor take so much time to make sure that I was fully informed. Unlike the first place which wanted to remove all of my teeth and take all of my money, Dr. Holtzclaw said he could fix me up with just a few implants and some bone surgery. The cost was WAY LESS than the first place. We have now finished the bone and implant surgeries and I just got my teeth! I can smile and chew again! Best of all, I still have cash in my pocket! more

Dr. Holtzclaw is the best dentist I've ever met. His education and skill are unequaled. Like another reviewer wrote, his shots do not hurt. He is very concerned with his patient's comfort and patiently explains the whole procedure. I had extraction, surgery and bone graft with complicating infection. Afterwards, he answered his cell phone EVERY TIME when I called after hours (5 times in 2 days). And the fees are very reasonable with payment plans. Five stars and 2 thumbs up! I had been seeing a different periodontist for about 9 years before I met Dr. Holtzclaw. I kept getting cleaning after cleaning, but my mouth never seemed to get better. No one could ever tell me why this was happening. They would say I wasn't brushing good enough or that I needed to floss more. Dr. Holtzclaw took one look at my xrays, measured my gums, and explained to me why things were not getting better with just cleanings. His explanation made perfect sense. I finally had a reason why my mouth was the way that it was. He suggested a change in treatment from what the other periodontist was doing. We did some surgery and now my mouth actually feels better now! I wish I had done this years ago. more

Good: His dental shots are painless! No kidding. I was seeing a different periodontist for nearly 10 years and all of her shot hurt and they did not work half of the time. Dr. Holtzclaw got me numb with one shot and I stayed numb for the entire procedure. This NEVER happened with the other dentist. Best of all, his shot was virtually pain free! My general dentist doesn't even give shots that good. If you are scared of dental shots, see Dr. Holtzclaw. He is the best! Trust me, I have had lots of shots. more
