bland food and rude service 1/19/2008

We've been tto Helen's Garden twice. The first time I was disappointed, but it was primarily due to a rude server. We were seated around 9pm, apparently this is late for the establishment and they were annoyed that we wanted a table. We decided to try the restaurant one more time, to give it another chance. Again, the service was aloof and don't dare ask for any exceptions, changes or questions about the dishes. The service was slow and the food was well well well below average. I rated Helen's w/ two stars, and that is only because I am feeling generous today. We started w/ the tuna carpaccio and it was awful. The carpaccio sat on a very thin potato pancake w/ an ice cream size scoop of sour cream on top. It turned my stomach. I then had the fish of the day, it was bland and the veggies were mushy. Apparently not prepared per order. My husband had the catfish and said it was over cooked and dry. He also had mushy veggies. The best part of our meal was the $20 bottle of Malbec. It was a deal, but next time we want to enjoy their wine selection we'll be seated at the bar and later dine at one of the many restaurants in Canton that offer more delicious entrees and much warmer staff. Don't believe the one and only positive rating this restaurant received, it's a farse. more

Too Many Rules! 6/8/2005

Forget the NOW $12.00 Entree Night on Wednesday. The Waitstaff acts as if you're getting your meal for free and that you should be happy with what you get! Happy Hour at the bar is worth the money. Half Price Glasses of Wine until 8 p.m. BUT don't dare drop $40.00 on Happy Hour and ask to take the ""balance of your glass"" to your unreserved table, only to be told ""Oh, No, you must drink your 1/2 price wine at the bar, only.""""You are not allowed to take this wine to the table"". Top this off with your gracious (and yes, he was gracious) waiter telling you that ""Because it's $12.00 night, a substitution of cheese on the Fruit and Frommage plate probably won't work"". Not worth your time. Don't be fooled by ""OASIS"", I believe this is the owner speaking of his own restaurant. Pros: Large Portions, Affordable Cons: TOO MANY RULES more

An oasis 6/3/2005

This is a great spot for a fantastic variety of dishes. It's like eating in a different country everytime you dine there. The prices are right on, and the bar scene is fun with a crazy mixed crowd. Something here for everyone. Pros: valet parking, inexpensive, large menu Cons: no smoking more

Poor Service 1/19/2005

I had frequented this establishment on numerous occasions, mainly for the $10 entree night on Wednesdays. Food is mediocre but for $10, definitely worth the bargain. I am sad to say, I recently visited and it seemed as if the usual staff had changed and with that, so did the service. Almost all the wines on the wine list were no longer carried and the service was terrible. Very slow and bartender was very rude. I guess the new staff doesn't feel service is neccessary if you're only paying $10 for your meal. Even though they do ask that you tip on full price of the item and the wine list is quite pricey. With $10 entrees, the bill was still $70. Sorry to see this place is going downhill. Pros: Inexpensive, Nice Atmosphere Cons: , Crowded, Mediocre Food more

Why the hype? 10/2/2002

The restaurant came highly recommended, but overall, it was just okay. Neat atmosphere, we were say immediately upstairs in a small room with 2 other tables. I couldn't talk to my date because it was so noisey and I felt like I was sitting with the other table we were so close. Waitress was too aloof for my taste. We waited about 15 minutes for anyone to even notice we were seated there.I had the tuna skewers which were tasty, but that was the only thing on the menu that peaked my interest. Overall, just on okay experience. Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: noisy more
