Editorial review from Citysearch 10/2/2012

Heidi's House gets childcare right in every way. Their approach to active learning is top notch with a perfect combination of structured and free play. The infants are allowed to be on their own schedule, as each infant is, which is reassuring that your baby is getting what he or she needs when they need it, not when the teachers want to give it. After experiencing another daycare and visiting more, this is the place to be. My children (3 years and 4 1/2 months)only go 2 days a week but I have never felt less important or that my families needs are less significant than children who go full time. My 3 year old has always been excited to go and has made very strong bonds with her teachers. I know they are doing something right when she wants to go each and every day. more

In Heidi's We Trust 8/29/2011

The headline pretty much sums it up for us. We trust Heidi and her staff with the most important people in our lives. We are the parents of a recent HH graduate. Initially we were introduced to Heidi at the recommendation of a friend with a child enrolled at Heidi's House. We took a tour and just had an immediate good feeling. Our daughter started started at Heidi's well before she could walk or talk and we've been there ever since (More than 5 years now). The staff are caring and unique individuals with a collective interest in early childhood development. I'm confident in the fact that my child benefits from the curriculum as well as the individual interaction with her teachers. We relish the daily sheets from her teachers detailing our daughter's day. Our dinner conversations are jam packed with the details of the day and in her own words complete the picture started with her teachers summary. Heidi's House isn't merely a ""kid drop off"". The children learn about their world as it relates to them. They also learn about their world in a broader sense; touching on many cultures and customs. We've been impressed with the level of commitment shown by the teachers on a whole and specifically on the various class projects and presentations that we've attended over the years. There was a brief period of time that we had to enroll our child elsewhere because of an employment change. It became clear very quickly that that the level of care at the new place just wasn't on par with what we'd come to expect at Heidi's House. We made the adjustments in our professional lives to keep our child on track at Heidi's. My wife and I know the importance of getting our kids off to a good start. With that in mind I know that we made the right decision for us and our family. Our oldest daughter will be confidently making her way to Kindergarten in the Fall. We will also be beginning the cycle anew by enrolling our 2 year old at Heidi's. We have full confidence that her experience will mirror her big sis'. We look forward to seeing both girls blossom in their respective new schools. We really can't say enough about Heidi's House and it's role in the development of our children. The Gayles more

Outstanding Care & Preparation for Kindergarten & Beyond 9/26/2010

We moved our daughter to Heidi's House quite unexpectedly. Our daughter had become bored and frustrated at the childcare center she was attending and we were experiencing behavioral issues. A friend was moving her son to Heidi's House and encouraged us to visit. Are we glad we did! During the Moroccan Marketplace evening we attended, our daughter was engaged before she was formally enrolled. The transition which we felt might take a couple of weeks was smooth. We felt as if we were home within the first day or two! Our daughter would come home every night excited to talk about the day and was clearly challenged and learning again. Whereas she had almost stopped talking at the other Center, we now had to ask her to slow down so we could hear everything she wanted to share. The educational program in place is well thought out and exposes to children to the world around them...both locally and worldwide. As a parent, I felt that we were part of a community which worked together to ensure that all of our children flourish. Now that my daughter has entered kindergarten, I can see how well prepared she was for this big step. We trust Heidi's House enough to send her back during school breaks and highly recommend it to everyone we know! more

Confident in Care 9/10/2010

My husband and I had twin boys who attended Heidi's House and we had nothing but GREAT reports every day they attended. The staff was friendly and ALWAYS put the kiddos first. The boys met wonderful friends there and as they began their first days of kindergarten this week, they asked why they couldn't go back to Heidi's House. As well, expressed that they missed their 'buddies' from their classroom!! more

A++ 8/16/2010

As a parent of 3 young children who works full time as an attorney representing children in family matters and child protection actions, I have complete confidence and comfort knowing that my children are well cared for each day by highly competent teachers who are warm, attentive and stimulating. Having delevoped a good relationship with these teachers and staff over the past 5 years, I would recommend this child care center above all others. more

One of a Kind 8/11/2010

I have 2 kids (ages 4.5 and 3) who have been attending Heidi's House since last November. After switching from another daycare, we were pleasantly surprised to see the different practices and policies that were in place to ensure the safety and overall well-being of the children. Most of those practices and policies are in place in order to comply with the NAEYC Accreditation, however both the administrators and the teachers go above and beyond those requirements. I believe that the first question you should ask when you tour a daycare facility is ""How is your teacher turnover rate?"" That is a simple question and should be answered very easily. If there is a high rate of turnover, you should stay away from that place, as it's an indication of how the place is run. If the teachers are happy to be there, your kids will be happy. My daughter cries almost every time when it's time to pick her up. Another important point is that the teachers observe every child on a daily basis on many aspects of their development and are wonderful at getting the parents involved in what is going on in the classroom, which is very important to me. Last, but not least, their Conflict Resolution methods work incredibly teaching the kids how to communicate their thoughts and emotions in a kind and effective way. Over the last several months, I have observed that Heidi has built a ""House"" for children as a result of a lot of work, care and dedication. She has a great team in place and they are there for the families. I would highly recommend Heidi's House. more

One Happy Boy 7/27/2010

I am a single mom who works full time so it was so important for me to find a child care option where he would be a part of a ""village"" of consistent and caring people for many of his waking hours. The child care business is a tough one, because the ""product"" is the most precious thing in the world, and the last thing any parent wants is to feel that their child's day is a walk on a diapering assembly line. Heidi and her family have dedicated their time to building a strong and positive staff with little turnover in the two years that my son has attended. They work hard at maintaining integrity in following both their structured curriculum and health and safety standards. Pros: Caring, knowledgeable staff, consistency, safety Cons: Affordability more

Great spot for child care 7/26/2010

As a first time Mom I really labored over where to take my child for day care. I was looking for a place I felt was clean, offered a good learning environment, and most of all, safe. I found all that and more at Heidi's House. The way they care for my child... it is like she is part of the family. Pros: clean, caring, great teachers more

1st choice for child care 7/23/2010

Heidi's House Child Care has been our family's first choice for over six years and two children. The level of care, development, safety and professionalism at all levels is outstanding. From researching this facility initially to hearing stories from friends about their experience at other facilities, we have not only been pleased but have and will continue to go out of our way to refer parents to Heidi's House. As parents, we are thrilled to have our children under the care of Heidi and her wonderful, long-term staff. As kids, our two have had the time of their lives and often don't want to leave at the end of the day. If you are in the position to seek child care due to work schedules and/or to provide enrichment and socialization for your child, Heidi's House should be your first choice. This is a crucial decision in your child's life, and you will want them in an accredited facility overseen by a professional and caring administration and staff. Pros: safe, caring, excellent care more

Heidi's House Scarborough Maine....BE CAREFUL! 7/20/2010

So the oldest (25 yo) comes home from dropping her child off at daycare and she is crying. I am informed by her, and my 14 yo boy who was with her, that Heidi (the owner operator) decided it was necessary to scream at her, the mother of my grandchild....and did so in front of staff, other parents, and children. This confrontation was provoked as a result of Heidi being upset at the fact that the state pays for some of the grandchild's daycare because his mother falls within a certain income bracket... At any rate, the voucher was a real source of contention with Heidi as was social and economic standing, marital status, and age. Cons: Heidi more
