Only come if you must! 12/29/2010

I wrote a review on Google about this place but after seeing the reviews here I felt compelled to share as well. I have only been in two hospitals for overnight stays -- one being in Brandon and the other here. I'd much rather have ended up in Brandon for this! Pros: - My doctor (Dr. San Martin) is AWESOME. I know a lot of good doctors are associated with this hospital. He is patient and very knowledgeable. - About half of the staff you come into contact with is polite and caring. Out of my entire 4 day stay, I had 3 very sweet nurses; one in the ER, one in my room and one that came to take some blood. And that leads me to the rest of the people here... Cons: - Staff (nurses, room service)The majority of the staff I dealt with was pretty rude and condescending. A few like the aforementioned were good but the rest of them were callous and smart asses. I was having a major inpatient operation...of course I am going to ask questions you've probably heard a million times before. This does not mean you have to be a jerk to me! They really acted like they did not want to be there. Maybe HoF needs new scheduling policies to relieve these people of their stress! It can't be good for them or the patients. - The food is HORRIBLE. I know it's kind of expected but the food in Brandon was excellent. I'd eat there if I was driving by and hungry! But if you're here for 3-4 days, you'll want something with a little bit more taste I'm sure. So mostly my review is right on par with everyone else's. Avoid this place if you can! more

Great Hospital 12/10/2010

I've been to this hospital on many occasions and I absolutely love the place. I had a baby there in September 2008 by C-Section. Not only were they extremely nice to me, they went above and beyond and treated me like a queen and my newborn like a king. In December 2008, I took my 9 year old daughter there because the doctor feared she had spinal meningitis (which she did not, thank God). They treated her like gold, and made her very comfortable. She went in scared, but they eased her fears. Just a few weeks ago, I took my 14 year old son there, walked into the Emergency Room. He was in extreme pain. Turned out he had a kidney stone. Not only did they immediately take him back before I even filled out any papers, but they made him comfortable and eased the pain until they found out the problem, which didn't take long at all. We were in and out of there in just a couple of hours, even with all the x-rays, meds, IV's, etc. Love the place, and I'll continue to go there and take my children there. They are awesome with kids. more

Where To Start? 9/15/2010

Well, I'm not sure if I should mention the time my wife's pearl earing mysteriouly disappeared when having a CT scan, or the time we brought our nephew in with a dislocated shoulder and the ER doc said "Sure I can fix that, let me go google it, I'll be right back" Lock up your valuables and Run for your life. NO BS this really happened. more

FORGET HEART OF FLORIDA HOSPITAL 9/13/2010

Last evening I phoned this hospital in a emergency, to find out if a cardiologist was on duty or on call. I was left on hold 27 minutes when someone picked up the phone, giggled and hung up. All this time, my condition was getting worse and worse. When a neighbor, a nurse came to my home, she said that was not uncommon for this hospital and recommended that I go immediately to one in a nearby city. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!! more

USE AN AMBULANCE IF YOU WANT APPROPRIATE HELP 4/28/2010

I wrote a comment just the other day and someone has deleted it (apparently, Heart of Florida Hospital). I fainted at home, have 3 heart problems and was treated rudely and uncaringly by the intake people. The woman at the desk was rigid and unkind, the triage person made fun of my husband asking for a wheelchair for me. There were 6 comments at this site the other day. Now there are 4! Heart of Florida, do you delete things related only to your lack of assistance at the ER entrance for someone seriously ill (I had fainted, and it was a heart problem). If this one is deleted, I will contact the administrator. Pros: great ER doctors and nurses Cons: intake people in ER more

Very Uncooperative 3/2/2010

In 2008 My husband was seen in the emergency room for the flu. I paid the bill with our Pre tax fund,by phone, and asked for a reciept. To this day I have not received a reciept. I have placed over 35 calls to the business office, no one answers or returns my calls,or they just hang up on me! My pre tax fund will not release any more money until this reciept is sent to them. My husband has had cancer surgery (at another hospital) and our bills are overdue and going into collection now because these people are idiots. We have to make payment arrangements and try to pay the bills out of our fixed income while MY MONEY is tied up. Never Ever again! Pros: None Cons: Everything more

It's our way or the highway! 1/30/2010

Get this. I just found out that this place fired one of the nursing managers because she didn’t fire her people when they went to management with a written grievance regarding a nurse with a disruptive attitude. Apparently this nurse manager stood her ground and would not be forced by upper management to bring the disruptive nurse back to the unit. So to punish the staff, upper management lets their nurse manager go and tells everyone it was “mutually agreed upon”. What a gross suppression of people’s rights to voice their opinion and concerns in regards to maintaining a safe and happy working environment. Maybe it’s time for someone in the news media to get involved and see what this place is doing to it’s employees. Pros: none Cons: poor management decisions more

Hold on to your BELONGINGS here. 12/29/2009

What's wrong with these people? There appears to be a total unwillingness here to acknowledge the problem of theft that has been going on all year. Both employees and patients have been victims at this place. Anyone can walk in and get a visitor pass and I've personally seen security walk right by people who are not visiting patients. Check the police reports and you'll find how often it occurs here and the hosptial wants to keep it all hush hush by telling the employees to keep quiet about the problem. Think twice before staying here. This place it UNSAFE! Pros: none Cons: theft and unwillingness to acknowledge the problem more

Watch out for this hosspital!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4/28/2009

I'm a 70 year old female--admitted there--before I left was accused by a nurse of "being in bed with another patient"-- cried and upset the whole 2 days there--too afraid and upset to sleep- called my doctor at home and tried to get discharged--had to stay because of planned surgery-another nurse insulted me also--many other negative incidents-- too many to list-- had written some of this stuff down on paper---paper was stolen from my room-----reported to director of nursing--told that nurse had "language barrier" -- what the heck does that mean?? was promised meeting with nurse who insulted me and ceo--but then they backed out--- filed complaint with florida joint commission---not permitted to know what action (if any) was taken-- privacy act--you know--this was a total nightmare---I have been left permanently damaged as I will never feel safe in any hospital again. Pros: none Cons: insults--humiliations- patient rights violated-theft more
