Fun atmosphere, good food 7/22/2011

Not too shabby 3/13/2011

The first time we tried Hayashi, I wasn't too impressed with the sushi. I did ready like the kobe sliders and that they had Kirin Ichiban on tap. We gave it a second shot, and I'm glad we did. The Ms. Alaska roll melts in your mouth and the Hawaiian fried rice is a really nice twist on a staple dish. The prices are a little high for a regular visit, but we'll probably go back to check out their happy hour. more

Great sushi in Cedar Park 5/6/2010

I love this place. It's a stretch to find a restaurant in the Cedar Park area that offers a fine dining experience.... but this one does! Great service and food- I'm never disappointed. Try the Seven Spice Calimari and the Pineapple Fried rice..... and if you are of age... try one of the awesome cocktails! Pros: Great food and Excellent Service more

the best place to hangout in cedar park 5/3/2010

I been there couple times and love it. Every time I go something is different, the place is getting better and better. Now every Saturday they have live music, and not counting that they have the best sushi and grill Japanese food I ever had. The service is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable, they always have great suggestions and the menu has a lot different options for my friends that are not very comfortable with raw fish. Its a great place, you definitely have to try it. Pros: Great food and service Cons: not found yet more

So two things - cocktails and calamari!!! Pros: amazing dishes! Cons: nothing at all! more

Great Food - Great atmphoshere 7/17/2009

normally don't write reviews... but was suprised to hear others say they didn't like this place. they had incredible salads and the food for non sushi eaters like me was excellent. I liked the background music, the lighting and the atmosphere. thinking about going there tonight :) more

Hip and tasty 7/15/2009

This is a pretty hip little place, although maybe still trying to define itself as a either a restaurant/ cafe/ bar.\r \r I would certainly like to see it take off as a cool place to hang out on weekend night as it seems to bring the city to the suburbs, and woud be convenient for young (ish) people in Cedar Park who don't want to make the trip to Austin.\r \r We only had lunch and there were pretty good specials. The salmon avacado cream cheese sushi was amazing.\r \r I hope that tis place takes off and does well. I'd like to go back for an evening meal. I just hope that they don't decide to start over-pricing like other Japanese restaurants in the area.\r \r Pros: atmosphere, decor, food more

Horrible all the way around 6/30/2009

My husband and I went when Hayashi first opened and thought the food was bland, generic and overpriced along with very poor service and waiters that knew nothing about sushi. We went back recently to give them a second chance and had an even worse experience. First off, when we arrived the hostess did not seem to know which tables were reserved and which weren't so she seated us at the bar after we specifically requested a table. There were three bartenders behind the bar but yet it still took over 20 minutes for anyone to ask us if we wanted a drink then an additional 15 minutes to get our drinks and they were wrong. We had to flagone of the bartenders down in order to order food. When we asked a few questions about the sushi menu the server responded by saying ""I don't know anything about sushi, I just work here"". Seriously! After ordering we were shocked as we watched every single employee drinking and doing shots behind the counter, yet we still had not recieved the water that we had requested over 45 minutes earlier upon our arrival. That brings me to another point, the A/C was either broken or not on and it was in the high 80's inside the restaurant yet it still took them 45 minutes to bring us ice water. When our food came out we were shocked that the $15 sliders were only TWO very small sliders that had no taste. The sushi rolls were generic, tastless and overpriced. In the middle of the meal I got up to use the restroom (which clearly had not been cleaned in a month) and when I came back one of the obviously drunk waitresses was sitting in my seat (with my purse on the back) talking with a group of friends. I politley waited for her to move, but she did not, so I tried to ask her to move and she refused. At this point my husband had to move down a seat, along with our food and our belongings. I could continue about how aweful our experience was, but I think you get the idea. I would not step foot in this establishment again and do not foresee them staying open much longer with this horrific service. Cons: Horrible Service, Drunk Servers, No A/C, Overpriced more

Delicious SUSHI!!!! 5/5/2009

This place is awesome! The sushi is so fresh. We're from Florida and very picky sushi eaters so we were skeptical of going. We were invited to go by some friends and was promised we'd have a good time! They weren't lying. It was a Friday with a 10-15 minute wait which is a good sign. We grabbed a few drinks at the bar. I had a BLUSHING GEISHA! What a fun name. It was good. It wasn't super sweet or super tart. Its champagne with pomegranate liquor. They had this guy behind the bar juggling bottles and cups. Pretty neat stuff. I was definitely not expecting this! Dinner was awesome. We shared a few rolls before our entrée. We ordered the bomb, ex-girlfriend and affair. They were all delicious. The Bomb was the most unique roll of them all. It is wrapped in cucumber with LOBSTER tempura. That was my favorite. For my entrée I had the chicken and ribeye teriyaki all to myself! It was delicious. It came out in a fine dining kinda way meaning the presentation topped off the meal. The meat was already sliced for me, all I had to do was eat. My husband had the tender Chilean sea bass entrée and OMG it was dynamite. Although the portion was not as big (this is Japanese food! Not fast fried food!) as we are used to it was so yummy. This place has a lot of energy and a friendly staff. We are definitely going back. I am going to recommend Hayashi to all my friends! Pros: Hotspot of Cedar Park Cons: In Cedar Park! People Just Don't Know more

Very expensive - Weak Atmosphere 4/20/2009

My favorite theater is right next to this restaurant and as I love sushi and visit every sushi bar in greater Austin I can find, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to try Hayashi. But it was an enormous disappointment from beginning to end. To start, the interior of the restaurant is very sparse and about equal to what you get in a basic burger joint. Given its location in a strip mall perhaps that's to be expected, but I was hoping for a little better first impression. And then I got the menu. ""Holy Cow you have got to be kidding!” was my first response. These were prices you find in restaurants far classier and better located just about anywhere else in Austin. If you want to impress your date with dollars, there are far nicer places around town to do it. If you want great Sushi without having to empty your wallet, there are much better options available. My sense of fair play for trying the food before making the thumbs up/down decision was all that kept me from walking out right then and there. That and the glass of water I asked (and was charged) for prior to the menu being presented. So from the menu I ordered my standard triad of soup, a la carte sushi, and a couple special rolls. The meal was delivered on time and service was certainly acceptable but not remarkable. Hayashi seemed overstaffed the day I went as there were lots of employees hanging around with not a lot to keep them busy. And there was a conspicuous amount of banging and washing noises coming from the kitchen. These are usually the signs that something is not all right at the restaurant. When my choices arrived the portions seemed a bit on the stingy side and the presentation was far overdone in comparison to the dining surroundings. Definitely art-food at its finest but the impression Hayashi makes is they’re serving you a $70 8oz Filet Mignon with Merlot in a McDonalds. And unfortunately not a very good filet either. Which is exactly my assessment of the meal offered by Hayashi: Mostly acceptable but not great. Certainly not worth the price based on what the same money will buy in more serious restaurants elsewhere. Great restaurants know how to balance atmosphere, presentation, taste, and price. My advice to you is not to miss visiting one of Austin's many wonderful restaurants when you dine out. Observe and enjoy the whole experience. But you can skip eating at Hyashi and be the richer for it. Cons: Expensive, Over-prepared, boring interior more

Try the Saki Margarita 4/20/2009

A very unique way of drinking saki. I now crave this drink. I would highly recommend trying it. Fresh lime juice and the saki is chilled instead of traditionally warm. It goes well with the freshest sushi in town. Fresh fish is flown in every day on site. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

This place is no good! 3/23/2009

Service is slow, rude, and unorganized. We were seated at the sushi bar and had to flag the hostess to get a server to take our drink order. Then we had to flag the sushi chief to get a server again for soy sauce and dishes. On the second visit, management had the bartender acting as a server...the hostess seated us in the ""bar"" area explaining that we could take advantage of the ""happy hour"" pricing. What we didn't know was that we were in the bar area and thus service would suffer because no real wait staff was on duty. The bartender was used as a server and he had no interest in providing service or taking food orders. The sad thing was that the two tables next to us, in the same bar area, had a server. These tables were seated AFTER us and got their food and were finished before we were served any food. Our service suffered terribly, it was 50 minutes before our food came out, we were at the breaking point and about to leave as the food was delivered, however one of the items ordered came out incorrect. The bartender had no interest in addressing the issue and mumbled that our food would be delayed another “10 minutes”. That was the last straw. I explained that we had already waited 50 minutes; I was informed that he was only the “bartender”. Our table was stunned; we received no attention during our 50 minute wait and now we were being informed that our service staff was only the “bartender”. We left, but not before my husband spoke to the “manager”, the on site manager basically told my husband that we were in the “bar area” and should not have expected service had we been seated in the other area of the restaurant. No apologies for the poor service, the hostess seating us in the “wrong” area for dinner, our food taking 50 minutes…this situation was basically our fault. We give this restaurant 6 months and they will be out of business. We have no interest in giving this place another chance. Cons: Wait staff is not good more

Phenomenal!! 2/6/2009

We are frequent sushi eaters! :-)) This is our favorite place so far. The food is amazing! We too have not had a bad meal yet at Hayashi! The interior is nice, wait staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. There is a DJ on some nights, I would NOT recommend going there then, the music is super loud and distasteful in my opinion for a sushi restaurant. Pros: Waitstaff and food!! Cons: The dern DJ that one night a week. more

Some of the best sushi I've ever had 11/15/2008

I've gone to the Hayashi in Cedar Park many times and I haven't had a bad meal yet. All of the waiters that I've had have been so nice and helpful, especially when I can't decide on what I want to eat. I've even asked to sushi chefs to make me something crazy cool and it always taste great.\r If you ever in Cedar Park I would definatly recommend going to Hayashi. more
