I like to support individual business rather than the national chains when I shop. Hawkins and Sons provided exactly what I wanted: knowledgeable sales staff, good product and good service. The staff helped me find the right appliance for my needs, they were courteous, and were able to answer all my questions. The price was within the budget I had in mind. I know from talking with other customers that Hawkins and Sons stands behind its products. The appliance was delivered within the two-hour window they had scheduled, and the delivery men were very efficient. \r \r I am one hundred percent pleased with Hawkins and Sons and will go there for my other appliances as well. more

Worst customer service ever! 5/22/2012

So many issues with dealing with this company......I'll never purchase again from them and suggest others run as fast as you can to some other appliance company for purchases. We purchased a Jenn-air cooktop from Hawkins & Sons on 5/5/12. I wasn't impressed with the sales person who tried to convince us that we couldn't get a Jenn-air from anyone else that they were an "exclusive" supplier. I knew this was a lie since we just left Sears and they didn't have the model I was interested in on display and suggested I try Hawkins to see one. I should've gone with my gut feeling! She was also very pushy and obnoxious. My spouse convinced me that it was just a cook top and it would be fine. Well it has been nothing but a nightmare since the purchase. We were installing granite counter tops and had templating scheduled for the following Friday. Hawkins said it could come in on Thursday and they would let me know on Monday if it would be. We then purchased the cooktop. Our first issue was they never called us about when it would be in. I called and found out it would be in on Thursday. So I scheduled the install for 5/21. Told they would call btwn 7:30-8:30 in the am to let us know the window of install. No one ever called. We called and were informed we weren't on the list for install that they could come the next day. I took off from work for this and now they weren't coming. They said they would see if they could fit us in. They did but that only began more issues. The installers came out and hooked it up and told us our downdraft doesn't pull the air because we don't have the correct duct work. This would cost us an additional $300 and couldn't be done today. We would have to schedule that for another time. They also didn't bring us the rebate form we were entitled to receive from Jenn-Air. After learning all this, I went to their store to speak to a manager and Angela (H&S employee) said what's the problem. I started to explain and she got argumentative with me saying this wasn't their responsibility to know what type of ducting a purchaser has. I said you're in this business don't you think you should inform customers that they should have their duct work evaluated for this model if standard duct work doesn't work? She said no, this an extraordinary circumstance. Really??? We were replacing a Jenn-air with a Jenn-air. You should advise customers of this duct work issue and not have them take 2 days off of work to install a cooktop. To me this is lack of experience in knowing the products they sell. If I wanted to just purchase an appliance I would've gone to a box store. We have no resolution or trust in them so we are getting someone else to install the proper duct work and will never purchase anything from them again. I even had conversation with the owner who basically said he was sick of complaining customers and I said I wish I had known he had so many of them before I decided to purchase because I wouldn't have. I have purchased several appliances from them and had them repair several others. They are efficient, honest, prompt, and really know their business. Their prices are fair and they stand behind what they sell extremely well. They are a pleasure to do business with. more

Excellent Refurbished Appliances Too! 5/11/2009

On the recommendation of my aunt, I purchased a refurbished stacked washer/dryer unit from Hawkins & Sons four months ago. So far, it is running great, looks and functions like new and it was less than half the price ($350) of a similar new unit. The delivery guys were great - got it up three stories using tiny, narrow hallways with limited maneuverability on a snowy winter day. They had it hooked up, trained me on how to maintain the machine and were gone super quick. I love it and just wish they has refurbished air conditioners in stock! more

Maytag Neptune Washer 1/19/2009

I bought a Maytag Neptune Washer, not knowing about all the problems that had gone on with this washer, and really feel kind of jipped by either the Maytag company or the dealer. It lasted less than 3 years at a price of over $800. \r \r My question is what was this washer doing on a showroom floor anywhere when class action lawsuits were going on and alot of negative feedback online? \r \r I had just lost my husband after caring for him for 10 years and there was not much time to research washers so I take blame for not doing research more fully. \r \r I just think this washer should not have been on any showroom floor anywhere. No sooner did we get it than the repair man told us he would never buy this washer. I know some of the responsibility is mine, but I am just not happy with Maytag or anyone involved in this transation.\r I really feel jipped. more

Rebate not honored 7/7/2008

Rebate claimed eligible by store not honored by "buying alliance". Hawkins and Sons says sorry. Store claimed that rebate was poorly written and that the microwave actually needed to be the the third piece. more

Really Great Service 5/24/2006

Hawkins & Sons in Elsmere is a fabulous service/repair company for major appliances. They offer maintenance contracts for major appliances. I had a need to utilize their maintenance contract once when I thought my stove was broken. I called they had a service technician out really quickly. It took him approximately 15 seconds to tell me what the problem was - and why the stove wasn't broken - and did it all without laughing! (I really don't know how he refrain - since I had done something to the timer on the oven that kept it from turning on - and it should have been obvious.) I was mostly impressed by how quickly they cam out and how professional they were. Superb company! I would recommend them to anyone I know who needed an appliance repaired. more
