Pretty Poor 5/7/2010

Food was average at best. Wine sucked. Got seated right away on a Friday night. So that was neat. Unfortunately that was primarily because there was no one there. Except at the bar. Was delighted when we got our calamari right away. Unfortunately our entrees arived approximately 7 seconds later. Food was decent, but nothing to get excited about. We weren't even offered desert. Felt very rushed. Spent somewhere between $80-$90 for a 40 minutes experience. I'm pretty sure this place wont be around much longer. Pros: Fast Seating & Location Cons: Service and Food more

Could be great 2/16/2010

This is a pretty, pretty restaurant. The location is good too. Front of house staff are great! Kitchen, however, needs to step up. The roasted winter veggie salad was awful, veggies were not roasted they were darn near raw. Flavorless cheese on top. It should be served on a plate not in a bowl. Raviolis were inedible and the tomato ragout thin and drowned in garlic, I sent the whole mess back and had the Salmon, and it was delicious even though on the precipice of overdoneness. The polenta cake was lovely. My Husband's braised beef had great flavor but was overcooked, the scalloped potatoes had a lovely texture but were bland. The Brussel sprouts were brilliant! The chocolate cake was apparently baked last week and sat in a dry corner until served to us. Also inedible. Does anyone taste this stuff before it goes out? This place has potential but whoever is monitoring quality control needs a swift kick in the drawers. Pros: Great front of house staff, pretty restaurant Cons: food was weak more

Went to Harry's bar Minneapolis day of play offs - told waiter we were going to game he took order - said no problem to be fed before game - food never came - waiter kept on saying food was coming - was just about to be served- dont believe them! \r We left - no apologies and no complimentary drinks Pros: seemed convenient for food before baseball match Cons: super slow service and problems in kitchen more

Can't Get Enough of Harry's 10/8/2009

Harry’s is clicking on all cylinders. I’ve been there many times and have tried almost everything on the menu and have not been disappointed. The service has always been top notch. So, if you’re looking for a great place to have a great meal without breaking the bank, Harry’s is the place!! Pros: Easy parking, affordable priced menu! Cons: ?? more

Skimpy glasses of wine! 6/20/2009

I decided to go ahead and purchase a glass of wine that I thought was overpriced at 7.99/glass. Imagine my shock when the waiter brought my glass and it was half full! Asking about this, the waiter (graciously) went to check with the bartender and was told that was the STANDARD 5 oz of wine! RIP OFF! If you want people to come back, give them a reason to do so. Stinginess with an already marked up glass of wine is not gonna cut it. We won't be back..... more

Great Bartender 4/20/2009

I went there for drinks and although the bar was busy, the bartender took time to make something special. I am not a big drinker so he asked me what flavors liked, how strong I would like the drink to be, and he came up with a great custom drink! What ever he made, I love it and have gone back a few times with friends to enjoy them. Great service, ask for Ben. Pros: service more

Elegant setting with a casual experience. Close to Guthrie.Tasty food. 2/16/2009

I've eaten at Harrys a few a times and have always found their food, ambiance, and friendly service to be an added perk of seeing a show at the Guthrie. Its the perfect distance to catch a cocktail during intermission or an appetizer if you have more time. Their burgers are great also ! more

Given 2 incorrect entrees 2/14/2009

We (party of 4) visited Harrys on Valentines Day 2009 for some good food and drink and couldnt have been more disappointed with the food. I recommended the potroast to my brother inlaw because I had order it on a previous visit and found it to be quite delicious. I talked him into the Bistro Steak, afterall it was a hotdish with green beans, how do you beat that? Well here is how you dont beat it; we received steak and mixed veggies, no hotdish, no green bean garnish with pickeled onions. We asked our waiter about the mac and cheese etc, he advised us that they were out of mac and cheese. Would have been nice to know before we ordered the dish. Honestly, thats the first time ive ever received a dish and received an unknown substitute/incomplete entree (the mixed veggies). Frankly, im embarrassed to have recommended Harrys to my family and friends, we wont be back. Several people asked where I was going for Valentines Day, I replied; ""Harrys, its great"" IVE GOT EGG ALL OVER MY FACE! Dont waste your time at Harry's, neat bar and ambiance, terrible service.....needs management change Pros: ambiance, location, view, cocktails Cons: service, more

Two bad experiences 2/3/2009

I 've had two bad meals now, so I need to write a review. At my first visit last fall I had the turducken burger. There were duck bones in the patty (about 3 of them, each 3 inches long). Then yesterday, 2/2/09, I ordered the salad with seared ahi tuna. They were out of tuna, so substituted salmon, which was ok. The dressing, though, was described as a vinaigrette. It tasted just awful. It was so salty I left the salad and only ate the salmon, which was thankfully placed over the dressed salad. I think someone just poured soy sauce on the greens, noodles and mandarin oranges. It looked beautiful, but was inedible. They're one of only three restaurants in walking distance from my office, esp. when it's -5 degrees. The other two will get all of my business. more

Just plain terrible service 4/17/2008

I live in the neighborhood and went into this place one night when it was quite crowded. I started out at the bar and had very average service to start. When I was almost done with my second drink, a bar-back swooped by a grabbed my drink before I was finished (and it was clearly NOT empty). When I complained and asked for another drink, the bartender grabbed my credit card (I had a tab open), closed my tab, and slammed it down in front of me. Needless to say, I left no tip. This was the rudest service I have ever had in my life. I have never gone back (despite the fact that I live just 1 block away and it is by far the closest bar and restaurant to my condo). Cons: terrible service more

YUM!!! 3/28/2008

..Love how everything on menu is from scratch. So many restaurants forget the minutia, but nit Harrys---it's obvious they take pride in their product.----Will eat there again! more

good vibes 3/21/2008

First time in. went for happy hour 4- 6 ish. Great atmsophere, nice decor, cant wait to go back to hang out on patio in the summer. Downtown but without the crazy crowds . sat at bar , had an awesome appetizer. Service was fastest I have ever encountered downtown. Fancy place without the stuck up staff we have ran across in OTHER establishments. \r Bartender Alex is the best!!!! Very friendly, personable place. Even one of the owners chatted with us. Free parking, low hassle, LOVED it!!!!!!! Pros: decor, seating, staff, drinks, food, parking, music Cons: couldnt find any- its my new favorite place more

Great new place to try 1/6/2008

We decided to try out this new restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised. It seems pretty trendy because of the decor, but it wasn't too expensive for us to get an appetizer, meals, and drinks. Harry's burger was one of the best ones I've ever tasted, incredibly juicy and too messy and gooey to pick up. I'd def go back! Pros: Validated parking in the Portland Avenue ramp! more

Great Food and Great Witress 1/1/2008

We had a party of six , three couples and trying Harry's for the first time as a holiday get together. The food was great, reasonably priced and we loved our waitress. I am a burger critic and this is one of the best burgers in Minneapolis! Others at the table had the Wisconsin Fish Fry and Pork Chop and everyone loved the meal. We all agreed we would return in 2008! Pros: Great food, Abience and service Cons: Tight booth seating more

Unattentive service, nothing special about the food 12/30/2007

We spent a birthday dinner at Harry's before going to a show at the Fine Line. The ambiance was bland and the lighting terrible, as we were seated in the front room by the door, very cold in the winter too.\r The waitress, obviously not concerned due to the obligatory 15% added to groups of 8 or more, was unattentive. She did not bring salads before the meal, the food was cold and the scallops not cooked through. Since she did not bother to check, and we had a show to get to, so we were left unsatisfied. In addition, despite the gifts and toasting, she didn't bother to recognize the birthday, which at most restaurants would be obvious. \r The only positive thing iabout the restaurant s free parking. As for the waitress, she ordered us a cab. Thanks Marcy! Pros: Parking Cons: Service, food more

Best Comfort food in Downtown 12/7/2007

My wife and I stopped in for a quick drink before going to the Guthrie and ended up getting a quick bite to eat after being enticed by the menu. The Bar tender talked us into some great appetizers like the artichoke dip and beef ribs. They were both very good but the real surprise came from the entree menu: we had the Mahi Mahi and PotRoast. These entrees were presented perfect and at a very affordable price. We shall return!! Pros: Ambiance,Great Bar & Close to the Guthrie Cons: Bar needed more seats more

Excellent Food Great Price 11/23/2007

We had a group of 25 that all thoroughly enjoyed our food and we never saw any flaw in service that others have talked about? My Company really likes to have dinners at Harry's because of the Great value on the menu with the Upscale dining room. We had drinks in the bar before we moved to the back room for a private dining. The free parking is an added bonus when you have to pay for as many people to park as our Company does. The other great thing was that we all could walk to the Guthrie without having to pay again. We have been to Harry's twice for events and will return again!! The only problem we had was that we didn't get the validated parking the first time so I had to personally pay. Pros: Food, Value more

Oh no... 11/19/2007

I was there for dinner on Saturday, 11/17 around 8:30pm with 3 other people. We were promptly seated but that's where the good part ends. After waiting for approx 15 minutes to get our wine, we ordered our food. After an hour, and no food in sight (server kept saying it was coming, but we weren't seeing any food coming out of the kitchen), we decided to leave - by this time it was 10pm! At that point, server said ""I don't know what to tell you"". The entire staff seemed to be arguing near the kitchen - obviously they were having issues. Pros: Decor, menu Cons: Slow or non existant service more

Waited 1.5 Hours - Hamburgers Never Came - Terrible. 11/19/2007

We arrived at 8:00 p.m on Saturday Night, 11/17. We ordered dinner at 8:40 p.m. Three of us ordered hamburgers (which are supposed to be good). The fourth person ordered salmon. After waiting for our food for 1.5 hours, we finally left at 10:10 p.m. The waiter admitted that he didn't know when the food would be out and there were problems. In addition, when we ordered, they could not make a mojito because they were out of mint and we also tried to order the asparagus. Again, they were out of it. It was a terrible experience. My wife talked to the manager and his response was ""this happened to other tables as well.""\r \r Truly awful. more
