NEW ""SOUTHERN STAR""\r (the old harbour club)\r Location is still : 25276 W Grass Lake Rd\r Antioch, IL 60002 \r Called to make a reservation based on locale and the strength of previous reviews...only to learn about the name change. Looked at menu on-line at the site they gave over the phone. No major search engine had found it under the new name except tangentally - they should fix that. \r I noticed that several things on the menu were missing from previous reviewers but could still make out a few and was assured there had been no change in kitchen staff so went there on the strength of the possible continuity on previous good food reviews.\r In fairness I went on a Sunday mid afternoon (Father's day) to eat and they run some kind of buffet in the morning so the kitchen was probably recovering from that event...but still...\r Pros - AMBIANCE: Restarant overlooks lakes and multiple piers...If you enjoy views of water loaded with stinkpots and wet motorcyles while you eat you will like it. They have outdoor seating too by the ""tiki"" bar. Inside ambiance other than the view out the window is suburban neutral colors and some oak and the place is nestled essentially in a trailer park which they clearly cannot control. FOOD: The Sweet Potato Fries were excellent - not overloaded with Salt like most and cooked to crispy. Two of the party had Alfredo based Pasta dishes. We are big alfredo fans and can tell a bad one easily...so believe us when we say the sauce (which is everything in pasta) is in the upper 20% we've had. Twice baked potato was pretty good. SERVICE - The waitress tried hard, a pity she had to say ""I'm sorry"" so often. \r Cons - I hate to do this, but virtually everything else. \r We were asked for our drink orders and they did not know how to make a my first two...""chocolate martini"" and ""cosmopolitan"" Ouch. Their wine selection was limited and kind of odd. (Few whites and those rather drab varietals - not a pinot in the bunch) One of the items that was listed as an Appetizer had survived from the previous reviews and they had spoken glowingly of it. We therefore ordered Calamari and were told it was not ready yet. Ouch. How about Clams then? Out. Ouch. We finally ended up ordering a side as a starter which turned out OK but essentially they might just as well have not promised starters. Then they were out of a couple of first choices on the Entre menu too and when the meat came it was nothing special. The twice baked potato was actually the high point.\r \r SUMMARY - Essentially a minor dining experience. those things that the place cannot control they cannot be blaimed for, but those things they can - they must own. I am not tempted to be a repeat cutomer unless I develop a sudden taste for beer and line dancing which are its advertised new specialities. \r \r Pros: Very good Sweet potato fries and Solid Alfredo Sauce Cons: Almost everything else more

Hi, I am with Rowland Custom Framing and my fiancee and I have had dinner several times at the Harbour Club. Being from an artistic background, we were thoroughly pleased with the atmosphere! Their food is wonderful and presented well. I always have the Chicken Picatta; it is the best Chicken Picatta I have ever had and the portions are hearty. My financee usually has the Rolled Lasagna which he loves. What I do really like about the Harbour Club is they are always changing their breads/rolls and spreads. The first time we ate there we had some rolls that were served with a lemon-butter spread. I think it is important to change even the little things as mentioned above so everytime you come, you are in for a pleasant surprise. \r \r HARBOUR CLUB - WE LOVE YOUR FOOD AND WILL CONTINUE TO DINE IN YOUR FINE ESTABLISHMENT!\r \r We highly recommend you!\r \r Thanks! Well, I have been in the restaurant business for 25 years and naturally I am checking out every little detail. When friends and I got together for our very special girls night out we chose to try (under new owners, Liz and Walter) the restaurant Harbour Club that is beautifully hidden from the highway and directly on the water of Bluff Lake. BEYOND charming!!! I felt I had found my hidden treasure. The lay out is BEAUTIFUL, the private loft area was my favorite part of the whole place, somehow I felt I was no longer in my little town of Antioch but somewhere else for a moment. CLEAN, this is huge to me, and it was spotless all the way, even when I could see into the kitchens My service was polished and flawless from the word go, food was an exciting treat even down to the fact of our homemade butters, everyday new flavors are created.... raspberry, garlic, mango, sundried tomato & basil, pesto, herbs, lemon...it goes on and on, they try 2 or 3 each day and is always changing daily. Another fabulous thing is everything is cooked to order... never frozen or pre-made up. I couldn't believe how happy ALL the people working as well as visiting were, as if they were a part of 1 family. Our server, Natalie, told us that this restaurant could never fail simply because it has too much heart and it grows stronger each and every day in every way. The devotion everyone has for each other and their workplace as well as everyone visiting is a priceless and rare gem. I just simply could not find a flaw no matter what. We tried several foods as well as sauces and soups and all sampled each others and everything was truely at its best, alfredo was the best I have ever had, calamari (MOST TENDEREST EVER) had an amazing sweet yet tangy homemade sauce to die for. The sizzling steak smokin' at our table..... presentation just prestine! SPECIAL NIGHT, SPECIAL FRIENDS, PRICELESS MEMORY...\r THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU, WHO MADE IT SPECIAL FOR US IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE!
