Hamstra installed a new heat pump for me last year which recently developed a vibration. The technician diagnosed and fixed the problem quickly. They are a very professional company, with excellent service. I highly recommend them. more

Hamstra installed new air conditioning units in our house, replacing existing evaporative coolers. The work was difficult because of the retrofit of new equipment into a confined space, changes to the duct work, and other construction that had to go along with the installation.\r \r We were very satisfied with the work. Generally, because we were doing a retrofit from evaporative to air conditioning, the project was more difficult than simply bolting a new air handler into the house. The clearances in our existing utility room were very, very tight (less than 1cm of space, for example, between the new furnace and the gas line. Thus, the Hamstra team had to do a lot of improvisation to be sure that they didn't back us into a corner by making any part of the installation inaccessible. They didn't cut corners; instead, they did a good solid job and took the time required to make it all work properly. Other 'unanticipated' issues that came up along the way were all dealt with promptly and professionally---because there are always unanticipated issues. Hamstra coordinated with our general contractor and worked well as a team to make sure that all of the details required for a successful TOTAL project were completed, not just their piece of it.\r \r In addition, Hamstra's quote was price-competitive. They were aware of the various TEP, manufacturer, and federal government subsidies and rebates and made sure that we had the lowest total price possible. more

When our 16-year old AC/Heating unit began to fail we didn't hesitate to go to Hamstra because of their stellar reputation. And it's a good thing we did as our 1978-era home presented the Hamstra engineers with some special challenges—small, shallow ductwork that was wholly inadequate for the new, efficient system. \r \r This became much more than just an AC change out and yet the great people from Hamstra designed a solution to retrofit sound insulating ductwork that not only delivered the volume of air our home required, but quieted the noise below that of our old system. To do that they had to go through the ceilings! But true to their reputation, they considered this all part of the installation even to the patch and paint! It takes a mighty special company to do that! And so to Jeff Hamstra and all the guys who worked on our project, our greatest thanks. And to those of you looking for an outstanding Heating and Air Conditioning company I highly recommend Hamstra! more

Very professional company. Our old system was over 20 yrs old and was costing a fortune to cool the house in the summer. Hamstra did a lot of measurements and tests of the house and system and recommended a Lennox system with an electrostatic filter. They told us in advance what would be happening and when it would be done, and the work went exactly as we were informed it would. All of the service technicians were very nice and appeared to be very knowledgeable. We've been running the new system for about 2 weeks, and the difference is like night and day. There is almost no noise from the furnace fans or the outside AC unit. The house's cooling is much more even, room to room. I haven't got an electric bill yet, but I expect to be very happy with that too. I was a little leery of the duct cleaning and sealing services. I didn't think it would do much of anything, but my wife insisted we do it. After the fact, I can say that I am very glad we had those services done. The dust levels in the house have gone done noticeably. We used to have to dust a couple times a week. We haven't had to dust yet since the new system went in.\r Also, with the old system, I always had very slight allergic symptoms when the AC was running, nothing great but it was noticeable. From the first day with the new system. those symptoms disappeared. I'd now recommend those services to others in the future.\r \r Overall, I am very pleased with Hamstra and would use them again in the future.\r more

WAY overpriced! I got quotes from 5 Tucson companies - all had A+ BBB ratings with no complaints, and no complaints with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. I got quotes for the exact same systems (same model #s) from each of them and Hamstra was 24% higher (more than $1700) than the next highest bid.\r \r The salesman spent more time telling me how great his company was and what “all” of their competitors would do wrong, than explaining the system(s) to me. When I asked questions, he would try to re-direct me by stating again how his boss/his company was better than the other guys. He also flat-out lied about a few things - I verified the info with the city planning and zoning dept. Just to add insult to injury, he smelled of stale cigarettes.\r \r He said he knew his prices MIGHT come in a LITTLE higher, but that was because they offer the best service. I’ll never know, I couldn’t get past the BS, the lies and the smell.\r If you have to tear down your competition to make a sale, something’s not right! more

What customer service should be! 4/16/2012

In my opinion, you will not find a more educated and professional heating & cooling company than Hamstra. Jeff Hamstra did a complete engineering anaylsis of my home for all sorts of pressure, leak and other elements that would determine what type of new unit would work best in my home. He even had the TEP folks come over to confirm his findings and do an energy analysis, which also landed me an even bigger rebate! His installation team did an amazing and very clean job, explaining everything along the way. I can't wait to see the energy and cost savings this summer. Thanks Hamstra! Pros: null Cons: null more

What really makes Hamstra Heating and Cooling great is the quality of work they do. At 100 plus degrees their techs are delightful, professional, and quick. Could not get through to this business 3/7/2007

Their automated telephone system is horrific. I was disconnected twice trying to reach them for a new installation of two units. On the third try I actually got to a salesman's phone, but instead of reaching him, or offering other options, I got his voice mail which indicated he would be out for 2 weeks. Click! Move on. more
