DREADLOCKS HAIR EXTENSIONS 12/10/2011

I have going to the Hair Cult for over 20 years. I have had numerous stylists and have never been dissatisfied with my hair. I like my hair very different. My hair was long mostly. They cut the hair great and colored it great. Coloring (my hair is naturally very dark brown) I had it dyed natural, red, blonde, light brown, and multi colored. I also over the course of time had my hair dread locked with hair extensions 4 times. My hair is normally full both very fine. Laurie the owner has always done a great job doing it. If later, I saw something that had to be fixed (it was only a minor fix) she had me come in and fixed at no charge. She is magical doing extensions and dreadlocks. I have recommend her to every one. It is truly hard to find a salon that does a person with straight fine hair to do this. You may say dread locks & hair extensions is a little pricey. (It does take apx 6 hours). It isnt pricey, if your hair is done right. I dont know anyone NYC area who can do this. Go ahead be cheap, you will pay less and be very unhappy. You pay for what you get. Jenny's the BEST! 9/9/2011

All depends who does your hair. I get my hair cut w/Jenny, who is now on Maternity leave and I always get complements on my hair. I've had it super long to pixie short done by her. I have to say, this woman is truly amazing with her hands. The best stylist ever. \r \r Prices for color and double processes are a little too high for me. So I can't say anything about that. But my mom and myself got our hair done for my sister's wedding w/Jenny and she was amazing. She can do any hair style in the magazines and I've seen her makeup as well. Great STYLIST all around. more

Hair cult is the best salon ive ever been too. I have been a faithful client for 12 years now and everyone that i have ever sent there has been a faithful and constant client. I go in every week for a blow out and have been to everyone including Laurie, Mariela, Jenny and Lula. Lula does my color and cut and I think that it is the most amazing salon ever. I couldnt ask for better customer service and most of all better hair. Never been more satisfied. Ive read a few of the bad reviews and I guess you cant please everyone but i can say that I love it and so does everyone else that has ever been there that i know. Keep up the good work hair cult. more

AMAZING 1/7/2011

I recently went to Hair Cult for the very first time. Just moved to Hoboken from Miami and I love Aveda and it was highly recommended by a coworker. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by what I can assume was the manager Ricardo. He offered my tea, held a conversation with me even though he seemed to be so busy he made me feel so comfortable and got rid of my nerves. Laurie was my stylist. She listened to what I was looking for and gave me exactly what I wanted and NEEDED! I left there feeling absolutely fabulous. My hair looked natural and flawless. Couldnt ask for more. Great customer service, great hair, just great overall. When i went to check out I made my next THREE appointments and left with a smile from ear to ear. more

Very pleased! 9/8/2010

I just moved to back to the states from Switzerland and decided on Hoboken. I had a great experience with a realtor in town when I purchased my place and she recommended Hair Cult, highly. I had tried another salon before asking her and didn't like the experience at all. I walked in to a friendly greeting. Though I didn't have an appointment on a busy saturday, they made it work. I was so pleased with my cut and experience there. I would recommend this place to anyone. I purchased a gift certificate for my wife. more

Good Atmosphere, Great Haircut 8/25/2010

I basically just went in for a basic haircut. I'm a no frills guy, and the girl that cut my hair, Mariela, did a great job. The staff was cool, very hip, but not obnoxious. I'll definitely be heading back here for my every 3 week cut. Thanks Guys! more

I want my hair back. 3/26/2010

I have, sorry, HAD shoulder length straight hair. I went to Hair Cult and saw Mariella because my previous stylist at a different salon moved overseas. I asked for "up to 2 inches off the back and just a trim at the front, because I want to keep the length". We discussed how this would make my hair quite angled towards the front, which I said I liked. \r I was surprised (and worried) by how quickly Mariella cut my hair, and then annoyed when she took about 3 times longer blow drying it. My hair is already straight and doesn't need to be tortured for 30 minutes to sit properly. \r When she was finished, I was shocked by how short it looked. I had gone from hair that touches my collar bone (I even checked a 2 week old photo to be sure I wasn't imagining things) to a long-ish bob. \r I've had lots of bob haircuts - it used to be my staple - and its an ok cut (not spectacular). The point however, is that its not what I asked for. Comparing my new cut to the photo, I reckon she took 2 inches more

What an experience !!! 9/8/2009

After a couple of times walking by Hair cult salon, I needed a change and decided to walk in, and give it a shot. I had the Best experience ever, starting with the front desk person, followed by the hairstylist that he recommended, very professional not only did my hair come out Amazing but I felt so relax with the great complementary scalp massage and a very friendly staff all around. All my friends already know about my great experience and Can't wait to go back. Pros: best service in town more

The Worst Hair Cut I Can Remember 8/17/2009

Bill gave me the worst hair cut I can remember. This was my 3rd haircut with Bill, and he was familiar with my hair type (thick wavy/frizzy), and my style (I like long layers), However, this time, he clearly wasn't paying attention, and I ended up with a top layer of VERY SHORT hair, which did not blend at ALL with the rest of my hair which had no layers at ALL The end result was an extremely bulky looking, completely unstylable mess. I've had to resort to pulling it back in a ponytail, and using bobbypins to keep the short pieces from hanging in my face while it grows out. Pros: Usually On Time Cons: Very Poor Stylist more

Recessionista Thursday 8/13/2009

I hadn't had my hair done since last November because I lost my job. Coincidentally the receptionist just cold called me to say they hadnt seen me in awhile, after explaining why i hadn't he mentioned about the Recessionista Thursday deal they had going on. Every thursday 12 - 4pm you can get any service for 30% off. I ran!!! I am so loving my hair today! I went from 9 months grownout highlights to a more natural color brown with some highlights, and an amazing cut! Jenny is the best with curly hair! 4/8/2009

I started going to Hair Cult when I moved to Hoboken and now I won't go anywhere else for cuts and foils. Jenny's really sweet and always goes beyond my expectations (in a good way!) My cut and color always grow out well. I have curly hair- and the layers always look good! Hard to find a good stylist for curly hair- Jenny's awesome and consistent!!! I have been living in Hoboken for three years have tried many salons in town. My previous stylists have all left all of the other salons I have gone to regularly, so on a friend's recommendation I decided to try this place and I was disappointed. Did a bad job on my wedding day!! 3/17/2009

Stylist showed up almost an hour late for my updo appointment on my wedding day. Owner was in the shop and never once came over and offered to replace the very late stylist. In fact, she never, ever acknowledged me even at the end when I complained. Turns out the stylist was so rushed to get my hair done that they actually had the makeup artist doing my make-up at the same time!! Then when I got back my wedding pictures, I noticed there was a curl sticking up out of my updo. Crappy job and worse customer service if that's even possible. Best Highlights 2/19/2009

I've gone to Abby for several years and she's the best I've found in the New York area. My hair is naturally medium brown, highlighted to blonde with Aveda products. She does the foils perfectly, no weird spots, and my hair is never brassy. It's also in great condition. She remembers exactly how I like my cut and color. I've used Lauren when Abby wasn't available and she was also good. I've sent friends here and they were happy. I shouldn't even let anyone in on this, but the salon has just expanded. They do what THEY feel like doing with your hair. 10/14/2008

I have light brown hair. I wanted to make it blonde. I went to Hair Cult and showed them a picture of what I wanted. You cannot get much clearer than that.\r \r Instead of getting the buttery yellow blonde that I wanted, what I got was a stripey gray mess. Yeah, that's right, they dyed my hair GRAY.\r \r I was like "WTF???" and I told them they had to fix it. So I came back to fix it and what did they do? They just dumped bleach in my hair. By the time they were done there were little frazzled one inch pieces sticking up everywhere, and my hair had this terrible cottony texture. Seriously, try to picture yourself brushing out a big chunk of cotton.\r \r My hair was a frizzy, frazzled mess for 6 months afterwards. The owner of the place was the one who did this to me. I should have sued them.\r \r Oh, and one other thing - the entire time I was there the owner and the other stylists who were hanging around were trash talking all their other clients. more
