Just a Small Hamburger 5/1/2012

After a long ortho appointment with my daughter, we decided to stop at our regular weekend day place, Hackneys on Harms for a small lunch. The waitress was awesome, but we could not figure out why the hamburger was dry and sliced in half. I guess they did not have the baby burger and had to cut the bigger bigger in half to get a baby burger LOL. It was a little dry, but I was okay with that. I love Hackney's on Harms. The outside was decorated with lovely Pansey flowers and I noticed that the crew was getting the outdoor furniture painted because they are getting ready for the summer. I was just a little dissapointed with the hamburger. Perhaps it was the wrong time to order a burger. But, I greatfully thank the helpful waitress. more

This is not the restaurant of years ago. The hamburger is plain and dull. If this place rates at 10 for food, then McDonald's has a rating off the scale. more

Great memories 1/2/2003

I've only eaten there once, but the burgers are the best I've ever had. I have a fond memory of eating there with my grandma who told me that this was her large families special spot to eat when they got to dine out. She also told me that the food is just as good as it was when she was younger. I love it and am going to go back with grandma soon! Pros: menu selections, good parking, family atmosphere more

Best burgers in Chicago area. 10/25/2002

Hackney's has been in business for over 60 years and has really perfected their hamburgers. Everyone tries to copy them. They serve a mound of fried onions that you have to try if you go there. They actually have 4 restaurants: 2 in Glenview, 1 in Lake Zurich and 1 in Wheeling. Pros: inexpensive, good food, close to home Cons: crowded on weekends more

The Mature Burger Lover's Choice 10/25/2002

Hackney's has been known amongst our family and friends for it's great food for decades. Their cheeseburger on rye has steadfastly remained at the top of Chicago-area cuisine up there on the top of the list near Uno's Pizza. Their blocks of onion rings are a unique complement that I have yet to find anywhere else. If you're ever near the North Chicago area and haven't tried them - you gotta stop by and check them out. more

I recommend everone try their Buffalo burger. It's somewhat healthier--buffalo meat is much leaner than beef. This burger offers great taste. more

First, you got the wrong Hackney's. The one on Harms is barely a ""kissin' cousin"" of the one on Lake for food and ambience. The Harm's Hackney's indoor seating is like a run-down circa 1965 golf course pro-shop. The out-door seating you describe does not meet the standards of my last backyard. As to the food, the burger's are WAY over-rated and esoteric in their variety and preparation (a bleu cheese burger, give me a break). And that famous onion loaf...picture it served on end still in a brick shape and oozing cooking oil onto the paper towel underneath. Ymmm! Pros: in town, quaint (old), good bar - need it Cons: parking congestion, LONG WAIT, food average, pricy more

Lounge on the Patio 8/15/2002

Nothing beats lounging an afternoon or evening away on the Hackney's patio with an onion loaf, and a few drinks. It's like spending the day in a full service backyard. Try the potatoe skins with applesauce--yum! Pros: good parking, family friendly more
