Best

We hosted our son's rehearsal dinner and just by word of mouth Guillermo's was suggested. From the first conversation gathering information to to the end of the evening, nothing ...

Worst

I tried here a few times and each time was more disappointed than the previous time. The food is averege at best, tasting like it came from a can. You could hear people screaming ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/28/2013

I JUST held a party for 45 there. The service SUCKED. They have ZERO customer service skills. The tables were set up 4 or 5 in a row in ""family style fashion"". My guests were squished together like sardines. I had my immediate family get in late. There were four of them. SInce everyone was seated, I asked if they could take a ""single table that was over in the corner"". (blocking the fire exit...by the way). They said no since it was blocking said exit. We asked if we could move that table to an open corner of the party space...again we were met with a ""no"". When I asked the server if we could add another (one) table for elbow room, she went into a speech about how the room was set up for the amount of people we gave for the final head count. I get that but didn't need an explanation. I just need you to say....""no problem, let me get another 4 top for you right away"". The server arguing with me took 3 times as long as it took for them to add another table. I mentioned something about their dwindling tip in front of the snottier of the two servers and finally had my request fulfilled. So that set the tone for the entire party as I was displeased from ""jump"". Since some of my friends and family currently wait tables or have waited tables they all came up and asked what was going on. Throughout the party they had comments on the service they received. Now onto the food. Mediocre at best...and that is being nice. Now I was there years ago and thought the food was pretty good which was why I booked the party without a tasting. The chicken was bland, The stuffed shells were bland. The sauce on the shrimp dish was way too thick. They charged 20% gratuity on top of my bill which was not deserved in the least bit. I don't care how many people I had...Servers depend on their tips but if you have subpar service you should be getting a subpar tip. more

Never Again Totally Embarrased 4/10/2011

I tried here a few times and each time was more disappointed than the previous time. The food is averege at best, tasting like it came from a can. You could hear people screaming and cursing in the back room . The service was no better than average. I wanted to take my party out of there and go to the place on the corner where I should have went in the first place. Never again will be go here. This food is no where near my moms cooking, you kidding!!! more

Guillermo's Italian Cuisine 6/8/2010

I usually go here a lot with a couple of my friends, and sometimes family, but i will never go again after my experience on friday night. I don't know what i was more upset about, the fact that the staff looked like they were about to cry or the fact the WHOLE restaurant could here the owner Bill in the back screaming & cursing, to the point i wanted to take my family out of there, to say the least i was embarrased that i ever suggested anyone to go here after hearing that. As soon as we thought he was done with he's temper tantrum, he then continued again with shouting and screaming, and the sound of throwing of pots & pans. The staff there was excellent & i usually see them every friday night, their great & it upset me to see them so upset. They DON'T derserve that. I will never bring my family or friends back here again, maybe i'll come back after the owner learns some respect to he's employees along with the customers. more

Look-out, one of the BEST we've had a gathering at in SJ 8/13/2009

We hosted our son's rehearsal dinner and just by word of mouth Guillermo's was suggested. From the first conversation gathering information to to the end of the evening, nothing to think, worry, or question about. The food was like it was home cooked and there was nothing to request that was not available and most of the time the folks were ahead of what we thought would be happening next.\r It was truly their goal to make the evenings event smooth running and with no additionsl stress on my wife and I than we were experiencing by just having our son getting married.\r \r We will definitely be back for a private husband/wife evening. Pros: Entire evening was flawless more

closest thing to moms cooking 9/27/2008

My husband, our children and I have been dining out every Friday night since we were married..(24 yrs ago) so over those 24 yrs we have become ameteur food critics as well as we have eaten at many different places, but we all agree that the great home cooked taste keeps bringing us back to Guillermo's. I have never eaten anything there that I didn't like. The food is always, fresh, hot and has that ""homecooked flavor"". If I didn't know better I would think that my nonna (grandmother) from Italy is hiding back in the kitchen cooking! Guillermo's has a soft , romantic atmosphere. Each table has a candle and fresh flowers. You can bring your own vino if you wish. I suggest that you either call ahead or expect to have a small wait, as they are always busy. There is also a special menu called ""The Sunset Menu"", every dish comes with a soup, salad, garlic bread, main dish and beverage all for just $10.95!!! There are at least 15 items to choose from, usually everyone's favorites. The portions are generous. If you walk away from here hungry or unsatisfied, I would be shocked! The waiters and waitresses are great, they are always on top of things but not so much as to smoother you. Guillermo's also has a back room for larger parties and also they have a take out / catering menu. I do suggest that if you are in the southern NJ area Guillermo's is a must for lunch and dinner! .....MANGI !!! Pros: taste, price, service, ambience, menu choices Cons: no wait list, can't think of anything so I will say parking more

Wonderful atmosphere and great customer service 7/22/2008

We held my son and daughter-in-law's rehearsal at Guillermo's, and I have nothing but praise for this restaurant. Being from out of the area, we were given their name along with a few others. I am so happy we chose this one! We chose sight unseen after speaking with them on the phone. The restaurant is small enough to have charm, the food is excellent, and the staff goes out of their way to make the experience a memorable one, even oftering to carry things from our car and setting things up. Nothing was overlooked. \r I suggest you go early to be sure to get a table! \r We will definitely plan to return here when we are next in the area! \r This is the first review I have written on a restaurant. I really felt this one deserves recognition!\r They do not have a liquor license so bring your own or you can stop at the store next door.\r more
