Don't waste your time. 10/18/2010

We drove into Tiberon, so excited to eat lunch... The wait at Sam's was 40 minutes, so my friend and I went to the Mexican restaurant Guaymas. It's no wonder they were wide open. . . the food was really bad. Horrible quality.. My friend's fajitas were impossible to chew.. IMPOSSIBLE. not edible. My chicken salad had cold, pre-made chicken salad on it... just awful. Expensive and not fulfilling. We should've waited 40 minutes for Sam's. more

Burnt my lips off 6/4/2010

I came here with my company after a meeting at the yacht club. The chips and guac were decent and the margaritas were ok. I had a shrimp taco and it was so spicy it numbed my lips. I had to put them on a water glass to calm them down. I really like spicy food but this was WAY too much. Also their rice just plain sucks. more

THE NEW CORPORATE OWNERS HAVE TURNED THIS FORMER GOURMET ESTABLISHMENT INTO THE RUN-OF-THE-MILL CHAIN-MEX MENU WITH BORING SELECTIONS AND POOR, INATTENTIVE SERVICE. SAVE YOUR MONEY. Great view- terrible food 11/15/2008

A beautiful day in Tiburon spoiled by the worst Mexican food ever! We shared the appetizer combo. It was like someone took Pillsbury crescent rolls and stuffed them with cheese. The tamales tasted like they had dog food as the filling. Avoid this place - even the great view isn't worth it. more

cold food , waiter was so nice , on of the manger was trying to rush us to leave , waiter over charges us for the soft drinks the bill was not cheap i spent almost $ 500.00 we were 13 of us , the place is over price more

Great View and Food, Hostess Seating Service Poor 4/23/2008

We had a rough start here as after being sent upstairs by the hostess an 'upstairs hostess' asked if he 'had reservations...I wondered why she would ask us that if we were sent by up by downstairs hostess?? When we said no, she wanted to sit four of us and a 9 month old baby in a small 4-top table. The place was quiet and there were plenty of large tables . We asked for a larger table and she protested and then finally sat us at a 6 person round table. She claimed that 'someone was going to hurt her"" for doing it. I guess we were special! Coming from the East Bay the drive into Tiburon was well worth it, The food was excellent, and I have to say the previous reviews have not done this establishment justice, by any means. A Nice Excursion from SF 11/25/2006

I've been to Guaymas 3 times and was surprised when I just read all the negative reviews. I've had pretty consistently good food here and it's a great place to take out-of-towners (the ferry ride + the view makes for a nice little outing). I'm not going to say it's the best Mexican food I've ever had, but the tamales are very good (especially the pork ones) and the seafood and rice dishes are very tasty. And of course, I highly recommend the Guaymas margarita. The service could definitely use some improvement in terms of speed, but if you are going to Guaymas, you should go with a more relaxed mindset and not be in such a rush. Avoid this place 24/7 9/20/2006

I kept telling my wife that we needed to take the Ferry from where we live (SF) to Tiburon and eat lunch at Guaymas. We packed up our day gear and headed down to the Wharf and jumped on the Ferry. I hadn't been to Guaymas since 1998 but the day was so nice I was sure we would have a good time. Pros: View Cons: Can't tell you about the food. Disappointing 7/28/2006

We went to Guaymas yesterday to celebrate my fiancees birthday. I'd last been there in 2002 and remember the food as excellent. Well, something has changed. I found the food to be very bland, uninspiring and unrefined compared to when I last visited. The venue also looks more run down, with a clogged toilet and a broken soap dispenser in the restroom, and general wear and tear everywhere. A change is needed 6/12/2005

My last visit has been the worse. I will never eat here again which is sad. The food quality has been declining. The pork was dry and bland. The shrimp were way too few and were also bland. The chips were greasy. As always the salsas are great and so is the view. The love of serving a great mexican plate has lost its way here. It used to be such a treat. Surprised by the reviews! 5/13/2005

I've always enjoyed Guaymas since the 90s, and I try to bring out of town guests there to enjoy the view of San Francisco, the outdoor dining, and the portions of food. As with any restaurant, I'm sure that it has gone through phases. However, all the times that I've been there, I've never really had problems, like the ones listed in the recent reviews. I'm not sure what dishes the people have tried to say that it's bland. The ceviche is tasty, and so is the carnitas plate. My only complaints have been with the front host/hostess. The person there always seems harried. Overall, I would recommend to try at least once, especially for those seeking an experience outside of San Francisco. Make a day trip of it by taking the Ferry in from the City, exploring the Ark shops, and then having an early dinner before heading back! more

I really want to love this place, but every time I go, they find a way to blow it badly. With co-workers in town, I decided to give it a try after 8 or 9 months. This time we had no trouble getting a dock-side table. Only 20 or so people on a Wednesday evening. For a change, we had a friendly waiter. But the tamales were still dry. Anything less than the top shelf Marguarita is a disapointment. We had a problem with our bill and the manager was uncooperative. Her excuse was that it was her first day! Resting on its laurels 1/9/2005

I went with a group of friends who touted the beautiful bay view (amazing) and the food (better than average). The waiter was gruff and did not bring extra plates or water, even when asked multiple times. Our plates were then removed from the table before we were finished eating. When I summoned the manager, he seemed very disinterested in the situation and half-heartedly apologized, but didn't do anything about the situation. Good Food, Terrible Service 9/18/2004

Our waitress could not have looked more bored or acted more disinterested in us. She wouldn't even make eye contact, staring out the window looking oh so bored while taking our order. Good luck getting any attention once your meal arrives. We had to ask several times for more chips & water. Fortunately, we did enjoy the food (carnitas, tamalas and fajitas), but left disappointed because of the service. We've had bad service before, but this was the first time we left a tip which reflected our true feelings. Hopefully, she'll get the message!
