Good, Not Great 5/23/2004

This restaurant is sort of a high class Mexican restaurant, it's not the same food you'd get in another Mexican restaurant. The food here was pretty good and if you're sitting out on the deck you have a great view. However, the food is a bit pricey and the service was mixed. Pros: Good Food, Good View Cons: , Service more

Below Average 4/22/2004

My food was served luke warm & it was very bland! Mexican? I thought Mexican food had flavor! The beans were BAD...Rosarita is better than theirs! Pros: View Cons: , Parking, Expensive more

Not for lunch 12/30/2003

I've never eaten at a mexican restaurant before where I did not see burritos or carne asada on the menu. I was very, very disappointed in this establishment. My co-workers and I had lunch here on Dec 30 and although the view was beautiful, the food needed major improvement. I have eaten at many places in Mexico and I would have to say that Guaymas is not authentic at all. The food was very bland and the salsas served did not help. The tortillas had a very pasty taste to them and if it wasn't for my margarita, I would have choked. Sorry, but next time I'll buy Taco Bell in Mill Valley and bring it with me and enjoy the view without the bland and over-priced food. Pros: View Cons: Food, Price more

We left angry 5/24/2003

Incredibly disappointing, extremely rude, ridiculously overpriced. Take my advice and don't eat here -- or if you do, be prepared to be talked down to by waiters are above being waiters. In the past this place was fine, but its gone downhill. Bland fajitas -- was too much to ask the waiter to bring salsa or fresh tortillas --somehow he managed to make my mom apologize for asking (b-day lunch)! Crab-from-a-can enchiladas, mediocre mole and an expensive salmon special that resembled salmon jerky. Can't argue that the view is nice, but the whole experience was so bad that you felt as though you were taken advantage of in exchange for a view. For the first time we all agreed that a miniscule tip was in order. You'd be better off going to a little bakery and eating lunch on the nearby grass. Same view without paying to be insulted. Pros: View, free mints, Outdoor seating Cons: service, food, price more

Doesn't lift up to its promise 2/13/2003

My best friend decided to throw a surprised dinner for his girlfriend and I made a reservation for 8 at Guaymas, requesting specifically a table with the view of the bay. The gang arrived at the restaurant with no table set up. Then we were told to wait for 15 minutes and were seated a table inside the dining room with no view. Now this is the incredible part of the story. Two of our friends came somewhat late and had already had a bite. They just wanted to join us on this special birthday celebration. One of the seaters came up to us and said our friends who came late and didn't want to order dinner but desserts would have to sit at the bar. Now wasn't that ridiculous or what? Food is good but overpriced. Pros: View Cons: Bad service, Reserv. foesn't help more

High price doesn't mean high quality 1/13/2003

This has got to be the most bland mexican food I have ever eaten in my life! To be fair, we gave this restaurant 3 chances and each time we regretted our choice. God forbid you bring a child with you no matter how well behaved, since the snooty waitstaff will gladly stick you in the back every time, and then the only way to get their attention after they bring your food is to send up a signal flare. The beef fajitas were obviously cheap cuts of meat lacking any flavor other than a little salt, the tortillas had a pasty texture and paper-like flavor, luckily they did add a little spice to their salsa so we were able to choke down some of this very disappointing meal. With high prices and crappy food, I advise anyone to avoid this restaurant like Montezuma's Revenge! Pros: view if you cn get it, chance of getting...., view.... SLIM Cons: bad service, REALLY BAD FOOD, outrageous prices more

Mexican Dictatorship 10/10/2002

Siting at my reserved table at Guyamas with my girlfiend, on my birthday, eating fried cheese (free with a drink during happy hour), I was asked by a manager to go inside to the (loud, boring and viewless) bar area. Happy hour food is prohibited outside, he told me. In an attempt to palliate his conerns about how much money I would spend, I offered to order my meal right away. He said no, and not wishing to be ordered around that evening, I left. As we waited at the adjacent ferry terminal, an angry manager approached an demanded that we each pay $5 for our fried cheese balls. I refused, at which point he said he would call the police. Fortunately, the ferry arrived, and we escaped this petty dictatorial entrepot, back to San Francisco. Pros: fried cheese, fresh tortillas, a view, maybe Cons: petulant waitstaff, dictatorial managers, bland decor inside more

High Priced Mexican 9/24/2002

For the price, the service should be much better. Waited a long time to get our drinks and to get a refill on the chips. The food was unusually good, but rather high priced. If you go on a nice day, the view from the deck could be worth the price. Pros: great view Cons: Hard to get to, too noisy, too expensive more

good eh stufffff 8/9/2002

Try the ""Camarones Chipotle"" you can't go wrong. They view and the music are a nice touch tof end a long week @ work and start a relaxing weekend. Watch out for the Margaritas, small but pack a punch don't let the size of them full you. more

Reminds me of Akumel.. 7/29/2002

One of my favorite vacations ever on the Caribbean coast of Mexico..and this place does a great job of bringing back the memories!! The fish is excellent quality, and though the long wait for a table on weekends can be a drag, it's worth it. Pros: Great fish dishes more

great appetizers expensive margs 7/24/2002

I love to bring out-of-towners to this perfect venue. The view is amazing and you can ride the ferry over, have a late lunch or early dinner watch the sunset and ferry home. The appetizers are great (suggest the duck cups) skip a main course and order lots of share plates. The one draw back are the margarita, although they are quite good...$12 for a Herradura margarita is over the top...order beer. Pros: view, close to ferry Cons: cost more

great view, not so great food! 7/15/2002

i hope this review finds it's way to anyone interested in eating at Guaymas. the food was far from authentic, lacked taste and is a sorry excuse for a Mexican restaurant. the view was great but then again it should for it's locaton. for all those tourist out there, find the nearest taqueria, buy a burrito or two and find a nice place to have a picnic and enjoy the view. Pros: view, patio heat lamps Cons: food more

Great outdoor dining with great views 7/11/2002

This past weekend I had a delicious red snapper dish with great margaritas. The view is beautiful and the service was quick and friendly. John more

Didn't Cut the Jalapeno 6/7/2002

I posted a negative review on Guaymas, because I did not enjoy my experience, and Citysearch erased it. Citysearch seems to be bias/rigged/fixed. I don't think it is true that all reviews for Guaymas are positive; they delete negative ones. For tourists Guaymas is OK. But for locals with selective palates, there is much better Mexican in Marin! Pros: View Cons: Prices more

Fun happy hour and great view 6/6/2002

A lot of people run in here, right after getting off the ferry and grab a drink and help themselves to the buffet -- usually fajitas, vegetables and chips. The plates are small, but it's possible to make a dinner out of it. The margaritas are individually mixed, not from the slurpee machine. And if the weather's nice, be sure to get a seat on the patio. Pros: Fun happy hour, Incredible view Cons: Parking is pricey more
