Best

Love Grolla's selection of Oregon and WA wines. The appetizers and happy hour is good to.

Not as promising as it sounds...In theory, Grolla sounds great, but compared to other staple restaurants in PDX, it is mediocre at best.... Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: uni...

Unique and Dramatic 8/1/2003

I don't know which Grolla ""dvineinters"" went to, but we've been several times and I can say that the food is fabulous and not the usual droll Portland fare. Service is outstanding and friendly. The menu is exactly as promised and the food is executed perfectly. Wine is paired by the owner for each dish and we've never been left wanting. The main menu is limited but the chef more than makes up for that with his seasonal specials which change weekly. I've never had a better salmon dish and my husband swears by their steak. The gazpacho is to die for. The wine list is diverse, if not striking! Pros: Food, Wine, Service Cons: limited space more

Best meal in years 7/30/2003

I've never been moved to write a review until now. I experienced the chef's taster menu at Grolla and it was the best dining experience I've had in many years. You have to give this a try. They offer a 5 or 10 course taster. The chef comes out of the kitchen to talk with you and builds a custom meal around what you like. I had five incredible courses with nothing from the regular menu. I was supremely impressed with each plate. An incredible cooking talent fronted by a suberb host in the dining room which makes for the most awesome meal. Affordable and exquisite. Pros: Price, quality more

Can't go wrong 7/29/2003

We had a relaxing experience. Nothing fast paced. We had nice wines recommended to us. Appetizer, salads, main courses, and desserts were nicely presented and had great flavors. Good portions too. Nice place for a date, anniversary, etc. Highly recommended. Pros: Not rushed, friendly more

Portland's new star 7/14/2003

We've eaten at all of Portlands finer restaurants in the Pearl and downtown and we've had no better meal than at Grolla. Our dinner was sublime. Returned for brunch, had the 4 course breakfast and eggs rouille (which is fantastic). The chef is doing incredible food and should be a name around town before long. Compliment him on the food and he'll grin and blush. Not like the snobs elsewhere. People are clamoring to get a seat in this romantic European restaurant. Our advice is you better hurry and get to Grolla before the rest of the city discovers it and seats are hard to come by. Pros: Great Food, great wines, romantic more

Catering to special needs... 7/1/2003

What a wonderful experience! Peter [the chef] and Chris [the owner] really went way out of their way to accommodate my food allergies. Unable to eat wheat in any form they bent over backwards to help me find things on the menu that would keep me from having a reaction. The food was so good that I didn't even time to feel like I was ""missing out"" on anything. The creamy cheddar polenta was fantastic! The service, excellent! I would highly recommend eating here to anyone. Pros: accommodating, friendly more

great 6/27/2003

New owner and chef take pride in ensuring a satisfying evening. Take your time and enjoy it. With the excellent selection of wines, the owner can find the right complement for your meal. Pros: attentive staff, friendly, excellent value Cons: parking more

Charming Neighborhood Gem 1/13/2003

This is a truly great neighborhood restaurant- charming, romantic, innovative and always comfortable and welcoming. My girlfriend and I first ate here on our anniversary and loved it. It's a thoughtfully renovated space with a great vibe to it- incredibly fresh food, super friendly staff and owners, and loads of character. I think the strongest endorsement I could give is that when I wanted a nice, smaller romantic spot to propose to my finance this just seemed like the right place. It was the right decision for a perfect evening. Hope you enjoy it half as much as we did! more

Total Unexpected Find 10/19/2002

Grolla is a completely charming little restaurant, tucked away in a cool old building on 30th and Killingsworth in NE Portland. I had Filet Mignon and loved it. My friends all had really great luck with their choices too. The place is really romantic feeling with well put-together antique furniture and candle lit ambience. Nobody will find you here... Good place to bring your fling. (o: Pros: Quality Food, Cozy and Romantic Cons: Maybe a little pricey more
