Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar

We love coming to the Gristmill!! The view is fantastic overlooking the guadalupe river. Very friendly service always. Delicious food. We love the queso and chips. They are to die for! No one has mentioned the awesome wood burning fireplaces during the winter seasons. The warmeth and smell from the fireplace is so cozy and romantic. I also love to order their hot cocoa with whipped cream on top! The only thing we wish is that they would include more sides w/their meals if you chose a salad. It gets a little pricey if you order a meal and want more sides, because the salad replaces both of them. Also, they used to bring out fresh loaves of bread. We miss that. Yes....there is a wait on weekends. But, it's worth it and the atmosphere is very beautiful while you wait. And you can usually hear the live music from Gruene Hall while waiting outside. Overall....our favorite place to dine. Get on their mailing list and get coupons for buy one get one free every so often. Enjoy! more

I may be in the minority but I have never been impressed with the Gristmill. It does have a nice atmosphere but the ridiculously long waits and mediocre food have always been a turn off for me. My biggest gripe is that they don't have anything to offer vegetarians. I made the mistake of ordering their pasta dish once thinking that they finally added something to make the non-meat eaters happy. It sounded appetizing on the menu but when it arrived I realized that it was a cold pasta salad that is often served at backyard BBQs. Ok for a side dish but made a really bad meal! Maybe if they added more veggie choices I would change my opinion. more

Enjoying lunch at the Gristmill is always a real treat. The Gristmill is located next to Gruene Hall near New Braunfels. The entry is wonderfully with split wine barrels filled with flowers and an old brick walkway. Once you enter the restaurant you will be lead to comfortable seating on one of their several levels overlooking the Guadalupe River. The chips and artichoke dip is a favorite appetizer of ours. Salads as well as burgers are very good but I usually choose the chicken fried steak. There is never room for dessert! Visit the Gristmill and you fill find a good meal and wonderful scenery. more

The Gristmill is an old mill that was turned into a restaurant . It is located in downtown historic Gruene. The restaurant itself is huge with tons of indoor and outdoor seating. The Gristmill is not air conditioned, but the windows are opened to keep the air circulating. The restaurant is located right next to the Gruene river, and patrons can take a walk down to the river as they wait for their food.The food is to die for. Everything at the Gristmill is exquisite. I do not even like Spinach Artichoke Dip, and their's is wonderful. The Gristmill also has a full bar. Dining at the Gristmill makes for a new and unforgettable experience. more
