Telling you about Tell 10/16/2013

Dr. Tell is an amazing vet. He treats your animal with kindness and respect. He doesn't try to make you put a terminal animal through surgeries or unnecessary tests. When it is time he is so compassionate.\r \r The only reason I would not give this business 5 stars is that the need to modernize both the inside and outside. It is old and in some cases not clean. more

Saved my dogs life 3/1/2012

I understand people are extrememly attached to their animals and its a very emotional thing when they pass. Its natural to lash out and blame the vet. I have been going to Great Neck Animal Hospital for over 20 years. Most recently, Dr. Rind saved my dogs life. Not only does Dr. Rind and his staff care about the animals they care for, they go above and beyond to make sure the care doesnt stop at the visit. I regulary call Dr. Rind with updates and questions and my dog and he is also eager and available to help. At times I bring my dog in for follow ups and I dont get charged at all. He saved my dogs life, I am forever grateful to him and his staff. I cant tell you what a relief it is to know I have someone like him our corner. Pros: null Cons: null more

Dr. Rind is a terrific vet. We've brought several dogs to him over the years and he' s always been spot on.\r For the woman who lost her bunny, the bunny vet I recommend is at Catnip and Carrots in New Hyde Park. Really terrific and very helpful for novice bun owners. But for dogs, stick with Dr. Rind. more

The best test for me of an excellent vet is what they do over time. Great Neck is a place I continue to bring my cats over and over again because the doctors care, are thorough, and minimize unnecessary tests. And, they actually consult with one another about cases. It is a sharp contrast from other vets I have used who were professional but uninvolved from day one... and it never changed. Not so with Great Neck. Oh, and unlike other vets I've been to, they are not focused on doom and gloom. I used to fear taking my cats to other vets because they never told me good news or looked optimistically at the future. more

I've been bringing my animals to GNAH for the past 20 years and can only rave about them. I'm a cat rescuer and have plenty experience from other animal hospitals for comparison. \r \r PROS: \r * They are open 7 days a week and there is rarely a wait.\r * The seasoned doctors are EXCELLENT diagnosticians and healers. In my experience, the newer doctors tend to become excellent over time. \r * The doctors confer with each other over unusual cases. They foster a team approach and it's resulted in wonderful healing outcomes for many of my animals. \r * They do NOT order excessive tests and inflate the bill. There have been countless times when I've asked for bloodwork or xrays and they told me I would be throwing away my money.\r * They welcome feral cats and they provide the same great care that they would give sweet fluffy! Great Vet 7/20/2011

Dr Wohl is amazing vet she really knows her stuff. She is so great with feral cats. She is very compassionate. I would recommend her to anyone. \r \r People have to remember we are dealing with animal and sometime very specialized medicine and sometimes we can't get it all right. just like in the real human world. more

Get some compassion 5/30/2011

I brought my practically comatose ferret here on a Sunday because I live nearby and it was late in the day. They told me that there is no exotic vet on call and they couldn't help me. As I'm holding my lifeless ferret in my hands, one of the doctors walks out and overhears my conversation with the front desk lady. As I'm about to explain the situation to the Dr., he says to me "I know absolutely nothing about ferrets" I said but its not rocket science, it's an animal, shes having an insulinoma attack, just do what u would with any other animal. He just shook his head and walked away. I couldn't believe how rude and uncompassionate these people were. I have brought my cats there in the past and have never been happy with their services. I also can't get past the rundown office. We're in great neck, not a third world country. more

I love GNAH. 5/1/2011

Fist of all Jane J., it is called a walletectomy, not a wallet lobotomy.\r Secondly, I have had nothing but positive experiences at GNAH (4 cats and a dog). \r \r I have found the Doctors all to be very caring and knowledgeable and all that I have had dealings with have been very conscious of how expensive things can be. \r \r I also understand that all of the Doctors are individuals and we may not feel comfortable with any given Doctor on any given day. Not all Doctors (animal or human) have the same bedside manner. We should choose our loved one's Doctors the same way we choose our own.\r \r As far as the alleged misdiagnoses, I am very sorry for your loss and would likely feel the same anger, etc. that you feel after going through such a situation/loss. \r \r Although we would all like to have care to always be provided by very experienced, learned and competent providers - it is not practical to believe that will happen every time. New (pet & people) Doctors do have to start somewhere. more

It took Dr. Parver in Little neck almost a hour to 'kill' my rabbit. A horror.\r One of the doctors at GNAH told me my hound Heidi was urinating excessively due to bladder or ureter cancer. Surgery was not an option. Heidi had been through a lot and was not that old.However-she was arescue dog so her age could have been off. He said let's try Feldene(an NSAID used in humans and dogs for bladder cancer) She fared a bit better at first but started losing a lot of weight and would not eat. I brought her back to a young vet there and asked " is she dying, should I put her down what to do?" She said wait. That night my dog was suffering. She needed fluids, she had a few seizures. So of course her kidneys were gone and the dr. said let's see if we can get her kidneys going.IV fluids and electroyltes-unending an more

Animal Haters, Money Lovers 10/19/2010

I took my cat to see Dr. Rind. After an examin, he told me... oh he's going to die, he needs an operation or we can euthinize him, without blinking an eye. Obviously not so caring. However since they played on my emotions I told them to save his life-he was only 3 yrs old. I thought Vets became drs. to care for animals. When I got the bill it exceeded the bookvalue of my car. Dr. Rind told me that the bill is what it is-I cant control it. But he is the owner and he can control it. I'm glad he's not my personal doctor where his speciality is wallet labotomy. With all the money he makes he could at least modernize his offices-the City Shelter looks better or better yet quit as a disgrace. The Drs. at GNA Hospital have more balls than all the males they neutered, which we paid for. All they care is about the money, money, money. The folks who think this dr. is great, has probably won the lottery or lives in a palace in Great Neck where only the small people pay taxes. more

Worst Vet I have ever been to!! 9/13/2010

I recently moved to douglaston from westchester county. My neighbors all recommended Great Neck animal hospital. Let me tell you, I took my cat here & I was horrified. The place is a dump. The waiting room and whole hospital smells. The receptionists were very rude to me. I was told to see dr. brian rind, as he is the oldest and wisest veterinarian and hospital owner. Well, I think he should retire. He repeated things about 10 times, and wanted to give my cat unecessary vaccines and blood tests. He has no bedside manner either, and is extremely unprofessional. I had a few questions to ask him & he just walked away to see the next patient & ignored me. I will never be going here again! Don't listen to those reviews that say they have gone here for 30 years & it is great - Save your money & go somewhere the vet isn't senile & actually has an education. more

They killed my dog!!!!!!!!!!! 9/13/2010

I took my dog here for a second opinion because I had heard great things about this place.....They were all wrong. First of all Dr. Rind does not care about animals at all!!! He just wants your money. He was very rough with my little Bootsie, my dog screamed & cried & he just yelled at him and ripped him out of my hands!! How is that for compassion?? I have never seen a veterinarian treat a pet that way. Then he took Bootsie to the back of the hospital & my poor little dog was screaming the whole time. A week later my dog died. I never got a sympathy card or an i'm sorry, when it was this vets fault that my dog died. I will NEVER EVER go back to this hospital again!!!!!!!!!! Don't take your pet here unless you want greedy disgusting dr. rind to kill it! more

I've traveled from NJ and NYC to see Dr. Rind... 8/9/2010

Expensive? Yes.\r Over priced? No.\r Resent some charges? Yes, but EVERY reputable vet has them.\r Up-sell you? No, unlike most other vets.\r \r For 20+ years we've trusted Dr. Rind with our 4 dogs and 1 cat. I've traveled from NJ to make sure my pets get the best care. I continue to travel from NYC to insure they get to see Dr. Rind. His caring, availability, and honesty have trumped the other vets I've tried (to cut down on traveling.) \r \r We've only dealt with other vet at GNAH for emergencies when Dr. Rind was off. They have been very knowledgeable and caring individuals. The staff are all professional, kind, caring, and love the animals. They are an extension of the great medical care and deserve a big thank you as well.\r \r These are our kids, only the best will do and I'm lucky to have found a vet I trust. Had experience with a handful of others and they may have fancy or high tech waiting areas, but they are not as qualified, in my opinion, to take care of my kids.\r \r Highly more

I've been using Great Neck Animal Hosp. for almost 30 years.\r They are wonderful, knowledgable,compassionate vets! Through all the last illnesses and last days they were warm and understanding. Of course they were the same for everyday problems as well. more

Excellent care. Saved my cat. 3/6/2010

I have been using this hospital & group of doctors for about 10 years. They extended the life of my favorite cat by at least 2 years; he was near death from liver failure, had to be hospitalized -- and they saved him. There is no argument about their prices -- they are expensive. But I still take my cats here. Dr. Rind knows what he is doing & has really good staff. I drive a while to get here; I've tried 2 vets closer to me, one very highly recommended, but I feel like my animals are getting better care at GN Animal Hospital. I feel like I get better care there too. more

Lovely, Caring People 10/7/2009

We've used this hospital for over 40 years -- through 4 dogs. They've been nothing but caring, warm and efficient. While the building is old and the facilities could use some sprucing up, what you get inside is great. I highly recommend Great Neck Animal Hospital. more

Great Neck Animal Hospital charges $5. per visit per pet for 'bio hazardous waste disposal.'\r I am outraged. STAY AWAY FROM THIS OVERPRICED VET. Many better ones in Great Neck. more

Lots of vets to choose from 7/31/2008

GNAH has a large staff of vets. This is great because every pet owner and every pet has different needs personality wise for a primary vet. Then, if the primary vet of your choice is unavailable, you can always see another knowing your pet's records are right there.\r \r The vets are all good though. Some are just better with some pets than others are.\r \r They are open 7 days a week (!), have a boarding facility, an isolation boarding facility, and groomer. more

Excellent Care 12/16/2007

My 3 cats and chocolate lab are now patients of Great Neck Animal hospital. Dr. Rind really cares about the animals and is very knowledgeable. On two occasions I had to visit the hospital when Dr. Rind was not there, and received the same great care with the other doctors that are on staff. I would definitely recommend this hospital, as I am someone who considers my pets my "kids", and the entire staff at Great Neck treated my babies with the same care that I do. more
