The Great Jones Cafe opened in June of 1983 when Great Jones Street was such a desolate, forgotten block that writer Don DeLillo chose the street as a "hide-out" for the rock star...

Sigh... I'm going to try to do this and not be too harsh.... I went on a early saturday evening... The place wasn't packed, we didn't even have to wait for a table. We sat down, t...

Overpriced,sketchy college place 3/8/2010

Went there because we heard they have good cheeseburgers but at the time we went they were serving brunch so we ordered something off the brunch menu and it was extremely spicy and overpriced. This place was not my cup of tea, but if your into that kind of thing you might like it. I personally don't recommend it. more

southern style, filling food 7/13/2009

Great relaxed brunch scene, always crowded with a good scene. The food is filing and hearty, even maybe a bit heavy. But altogether a great place! Pros: great brunch Cons: can have a wait more

What about the wings? 6/5/2009

I've read a couple of the reviews here. Some good and some bad but what I didn't see is anyone commenting on how good the wings are at Jones. I know that every Wednesday night I start to crave that sweet, spicy sauce and Friday can't come soon enough. A couple of orders of those wings and a side of cornbread accompanied by a bottle of Chimay and life is good. Pros: Great wings and atmosphere Cons: parking more

GREAT BRUNCH - HORRIBLE SERVICE! 4/5/2009

I have been to this place for brunch multiple times and consistently go back for the amazing huevos rancheros. But every time I go, I become extremely frustrated with the terrible service. The waitstaff takes forever to take your order (the food comes very quickly, though). They are completely apathetic and seem like they couldn't care less about being at work or helping the guests. Today, I had to call the waitress over multiple times just to refill the coffee and give us water; she was apparently too busy eating her own breakfast to help us. The hostess took over 10 minutes to process our credit cards and when we asked for our receipts, she brought them back with a ""Here you go, now you can leave."" The one plus is that leaving a 10% tip for such terrible service keeps the bill low, but if it wasn't for the food, I would NEVER go back. I wish the management would take note because this hasn't been a one-time experience; this is EVERY time. Pros: Great food Cons: Service, cornbread and biscuits more

Fantastic Place 12/8/2008

I think this place is fantastic. Modern, delicious seasonal food, EXCELLENT service. The menu is full of unique dishes ( I wanted them all). Try the house salad, roasted chicken, cajun fried oysters. I truly think this is one of NYs must eat restaurants. Come here, you won't be disappointed. more

In need of serious attitude adjustment 11/21/2008

Unfortunately for me, I have been to this place several times. My wife likes a drink that make here called the ""Shaggy."" If it wasn't for that, I would NEVER go here again. The staff has a terrible attitude. They make you feel like they would be so much happier if you would just go away- except they need your money. Pros: zero Cons: staff w/ crappy attitude more

Go if you frequent tiny, dirty places where the staff feels they are "cooler than you." Pros: zero Cons: staff w/ crappy attitude more

Glad we didn't eat! 9/14/2008

We've passed this place on several occasions & wondered why we never stopped in (now I know why). We arrived in-between their Brunch & Dinner service so they were not serving food - that's OK because we just wanted to check the place out & have a drink. Well, I suppose not many people just go in this place for a drink, because the staff acted as if we were intruding on them. We asked to see a menu (just to check out the food/prices etc...etc..) this would be about the 3rd time we were informed they were not serving food - OK we get!! We got our drinks & the bartender immediately gave us the check (even after asking him to run a tab) and then proceeded to act irritated that we hadn't signed it right away! 2 other people came in & ordered drinks (which are not cheap - $9/avrg) they moved from the bar to a table & we're told promptly by the staff they could not sit there - the customers proceeded to get up & just leave their full Bloody Marys on the table - we would've done the same had the drinks not been so expensive! Final thought - this place is way overrated - and as stated before, I glad we did not eat here. There are too many places in the city that have great food /drinks & service - this place is a waste of time. Cons: Attitude more

Best Bar/Restaurant in NYC 5/20/2008

If I could live here, I would. The food is unrepentantly Cajun. It's spicy. It's hot. It's simple. It's served up fast. Sweet potato fries. Dewar's and Spicy Ginger Ale. Best burgers ever. Crawfish that's actually from the Gulf Coast (a hard commodity to come by in NYC). Pros: food drinks staff bar more

I'm rating the ambience at the bottom because that's how it should be. I think I may have to go there for lunch now. Just thinking about Jones makes me hungry. Pros: food drinks staff bar more
