It's a decent place to eat but what your really paying for is the name. If you need to eat at one of the ""in"" places of Ann Arbor, then this is the place for you. If your look...

Great scenery, good dessert, pretty good food, not so good service. 7/9/2008

I have been to Grazti several times and each experience is a little different. The atmosphere is amazing; probably my favorite out of all the restuarants in Ann Arbor. The prices are too high for the quality of food you get. If you decide you are going to come here I would definately do the whole dinner experience (drinks, appetizer, salad, dessert, etc.) I wouldn't try to conserve your money and only get dinner because you will find it not to be worth your money. The insalata caprese is a great salad btw. I have found thier salmon to be better than most places and the veal pretty good. Chicken Marsala is decent as well but a bit too seasoned. You are served bread before your meal as well which is pretty tasty. For those who like eating lots of food this is NOT the restuarant for you! Be prepared for European/rest of the world other than the USA-sized portions. They have always given me enough food to the point where I am reasonablely full, but your stomach wil l most definitly not be stretched.\r I recommend requesting dessert in La Dolce Vita (high-class dessert place connected to Gratzi) after you finish your meal. There is an executive pastry chef that makes all the desserts and they are quite satisfying, although very expensive. You can also get specialty dessert drinks such as coffees with liquers.\r \r On a BAD note... The wait staff have never gone out of their way to be pleasant to me or any of the people I come with, they do not make you want to come back for their ""cheerful personalities"" at all. Overall food is good, but too overpriced, salad not included with entree, food portions generally small for USA standards, and somewhat hectic to get to if you are driving there.\r \r REGARDLESS I reccommed anyone who likes Italian food and wants to go somewhere nice to at least try it once. \r \r Overall I wont go out of my way to go there, but if the occasion arises I do not mind one bit, plus it tends to be cheaper than the Chop House. Pros: Pretty good food, amazing ambience! Cons: Unfriendly staff, over-priced, bothersome to get to. more

Comically Pretentious 5/25/2008

When we arrived, the hostess asked us in stern seriousness if we had a reservation. I said no. Hmmmm, she replied and looked down at her little table. Then she looked around the nearly deserted restaurant, searching to see if we could be seated. Finally, she determined that we could sit at one of the many deserted tables. Then, the waiter continued this bizarre show of snobbery, seriousness and shallow knowledge. Which in hindsight, I'm glad for all of this, because otherwise, outside of the interesting architecture of the space, the place would have been immemorable and unremarkable for the food. Perhaps these kids think they're practicing to work in a ""real"" restaurant. I hope not, because they appear to have confused attitude for substance in what makes for a good restaurant. Pros: Olive oil and bread Cons: bland food more

Great if you don't have a car 8/29/2007

The ambience at Gratzi is its selling point. Location, if you don't have a car --to go get truly inspired Italian food-- is right on the main drag, so it's easy to get to. I really liked the setting, and the convivial atmosphere makes for a great time if food is not the real object of the outing. My pasta was fresh though the sauce was ho-hum. Pass on the calamari. I'm a real softie for Italian Wedding soup and Gratzi's was decent but nothing to write home (but OK to write here) about. Our waitron was clueless but enthusiastic, and that enthusiasm keeps my vote in the plus column. I won't hurry back, but I won't fight if someone else suggests we go there. Pros: Happy atmosphere Cons: High price does not match so-so food quality more

A fictional name 11/19/2006

This review needs to go no further than the fact they can't spell their own name. They butchered the italian spelling of ""thank you."" Subpar italian food is easy to come by. Not only have they failed to set themselves apart in quality of food, but they didn't even use a dictionary to ensure they named it correctly. Pros: It's food Cons: It's yet another botched attempt at ""authentic"" italian. more

Great for dates! 10/31/2006

I loved the restaurant. I took my girlfriend out for an anniversary there and had an excellent time. At the time it was one of my first finer dining experiences so she and I were a bit uneasy, but the wait staff made us completely at home. We had a nice private seating area and great advice in choosing our meals. Since then I have been to a number of other fine restaurants and this is still one of our favorites. Pros: Great ambience, service and good food Cons: A bit busy more

Not it's all cracked up to be 8/16/2003

Gratzi has consistently good food and the ambience is good as well, but there's nothing really spectacular to say about Gratzi. Nothing about it stands out. What you pay for is the fact that it's a Main Street Ventures restaurant, much like Real Seafood Company, for which is the same assessment. If you have some people coming in from out of town, maybe you can take them here. Otherwise, save your money and go somewhere else. Pros: Good Food Quality, Ambience Cons: Price, Parking, Overrated more

Somewhat over rated... 3/18/2003

It's a decent place to eat but what your really paying for is the name. If you need to eat at one of the ""in"" places of Ann Arbor, then this is the place for you. If your looking for good Italian food, there is better food with the same service for less $$$ available. Pros: Ambiance, Service Cons: EXPENSIVE, Parking a challenge, Crowded more
