This is my worse experience with a company. They originally took four trips to install the fireplace. During that time, they got black spray paint on my cealing. They sanded down the texture of my textured cealing to cover it up. They cut a whole too big in the cealing that required a larger flashing. They acted like it was my fault when I complained about black paint on my cealing! The chimney was crocked on the roof.\r But that isn't the beginning of the bad. After using my wood stove for a month or so, the PIPE FELL OFF!!!! IT spewed smoke into my living room!!! \r Now today, it was leaking into my living room after a rainstorm!!! And they acted like it's not their fault at all!!! Do not do business with these people ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

I had Grate Balls Afire install a vent free gas set that looked like a coal burning fireplace in my home. There have been a few cool evenings and mornings when I have been able to turn it on. It is just so cozy. I now feel like I really have a fireplace. The people at Grate Balls Afire were great to work with and did what they said they would do at the price they quoted. I got just what I wanted? Pros: They did just what they said they would do more

I don't usually write reviews but after reading some of these I had to voice my thoughts. I just have to tell you I love my gas logs (double sided)! I use them hours and hours on end this winter and savored every minute, After being afraid that they'd look fake and send my gas bill soaring. I am thrilled to say they look beautiful and my bills have been identical to last year despite this awful deep-freeze. My whole house is warmer. It took me two years to spend that money but now I can say it was worth every penny. Pros: They listen to me and made the right suggestions more

Poor customer service 10/9/2009

After already writing complaints to Angie's List and the BBB about this ""business"" I'm pretty worn out but I'll vent once more! Purchased fireplace insert about 5 to 7 yrs ago from GBA. Made appts every year afterwards for annual service and initially they showed up in a timely manner. Recent years have had a lot of trouble arranging an appt. (excuses from ""we just got back from Florida so I'll have to call you back"" to ""There's only 2 of us who work here so I'll have to call you back"" none of which made any sense AND often wouldn't call me back anyway!) and at least once, when an appt. was set, resulted in a no-show. Finally had one scheduled today within a specific time frame (per Jim it would be between 10 and 11) but when I called at 10:30 to confirm Jim said he couldn't guarantee anyone would be there before noon. I had to leave the house at 12:30 so naturally I was ticked. So once again they failed to hold up to the agreed time . I know, I know...why did I even bother calling them at all this year? Well, because I bought the product from them and didn't know who else to call. Anyway, I asked Jim why he had promised a specific time frame when the appt. was made if it wasn't going to be honored (and of course I got no phone call saying they would be late) he was very rude and actually said that I really didn't want them to come out and perform service anyway! Huh? I was the one who initiated the process to arrange the service call in the first place! Needless to say I was and am very frustrated. I hung up and will certainly never call them again. And while there is nothing they can do to get this customer back (and probably the other 3 people who have written negative reviews) maybe if they read ""Good Customer Service for Dummies"" there may be a slim chance they can salvage what's left of any customer base they have left. Cons: Don't know how to make and keep service appointments. more

Very bad experience 2/28/2009

Bought a Jotul wood stove from these folks - terrible interaction. Extremely rude when I called with questions. No help with installing to code, marked up my wood floor. Woudl never go back. Cons: rude, bad service, not repsonsive more

They know their stuff 8/5/2008

I was looking for a wood stove and went to several local places. I was highly impressed with the knowledge of the people. The salesperson explained how the different stoves worked and took the time to ensure we got everything we needed. When it was time for the install, the installer put it in like clockwork. The installer once again took the time to go over everthing from the type of wood to burn, to how to control the heat, to what to look for to ensure we were getting the most heat we could. I would highly recommend Pros: Very knowledgable Cons: not the cheapest more

Worst customer service ever!!! 10/26/2007

This was quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced. While attempting to pick up a log grate for my father (who I made the mistake of recommending this company to) I was accused of attempting to get something for nothing as an answer to my question as to whether it was included in the amount already paid or not. After trying to explain to her that I merely was trying to clear up whether it had been paid for or not and reiterate that I (the customer) did not appreciate the harsh treatment that was being directed at me was told that the company did not appreciate us trying to steal anything from them. I was left no recourse but to tell them to keep their item and made a promise to never purhcase anything from them again. Worst service ever!!! Pros: They are breathing Cons: Most hostiel employees I have ever met. more

Very Bad Service!!! 10/13/2005

Bought a grill from them that was supposed to have a 5 year warranty. I have had the grill for 2.5 years. In that time I have had to replace the grates 3 times, each time I have to hound them for weeks to get a replacement. In the latest and final straw, burners broke apart in to two pieces. I have been trying to get them to replace obviously defective burners for over 4 weeks now with no luck. It is obvious they do not care for their customers!!! Stay away from this place or it will cause you nothing but headache. more
