Editorial review from Citysearch 10/25/2012

My husband and myself signed up with this AF location in April 2011. We payed every month on time up to Dec. We never had a problem with Golds Gym until:\r \r My husband lost his job in Dec when I gave birth to our first child. I spoke with Golds gym on the phone about our personal situation of what happened. In April we where still behind from the bills of 3 months of unemployment I called Golds to see what we could do to get caught up.\r \r The employee I spoke with stated that for 20$ they could freeze our account. I personally went into Golds gym and spoke with a female employee she was very busy and asked me to write down our personal information as well as leave 20$ and she would call me when she finished the hold. I never received word back from this employee and when I started to receive collection calls from paramount acceptance I understood why. \r \r Our account was never placed on hold. In the meantime I had still been using the gym before that time of the 'freeze'. A man employee approached me while I was walking on the treadmill he asked me if I wanted to UPGRADE to a gold membership for only 5$ more a month. I talked with my husband and we said we could do that, since it involved free daycare. \r \r When the collection calls started coming in from being a month behind we made payments. How ever, our payment went towards late fees (which they waved a few) I thought they where working with us at this point but our account had still not been placed on hold? We where not attending the gym due to this information. BUT I made a payment half of it still went to late fees. Weeks later I called to make another payment gave them our new card information and when I called again. The payment had been denied and we had received NEW fees. \r \r I finally got down to the bottom of it and found out they had charged our old card and would not waive any fees or accept responsibilities. \r I told them I wanted to speak with a manager and the same response is what I received. I told them I'd like to wait till I was carried to a new collection agency if they did not want to work with me. \r \r BY NOW i didn't think I could get any more frustrated at Golds Gym or their hired collection agency. But I was wrong. \r \r Today, I received a call that I was finally going to be transferred to another company to take my case. I was in thralled.\r *UNTIL they told me the total pay off was $1500?! When I asked why, they informed me because you only paid one month of your 2 year membership? 2 year membership, I upgraded 13 months left to GOLD. He than continued to tell me that it showed only a 2 year membership. And there is nothing he can do. *\r I had spoke with a woman from corporate on the phone in July before myself and my husband separated. She told me that the account was only $280 give or take a little that needed to be paid and then we could resume our membership.\r \r In my opinion I am so tired of the dishonesty, poor communication and just plain awful customer service of Golds gym and their employees.\r \r Please no matter how nice they are, how up to date the gym is and all other things great; think of this businesses integrity before you decide to do business with them. more

Don't trust Gold's Gym 7/20/2011

Gold's Gym will tell you what you want to hear to get you to join but they will not keep their word to any of it. It was broken promise after another. We were told we could cancel or freeze our account with no problem, that was not the case. One of the reasons we signed up with Gold's is they told us they had gym's in Ohio (where we were from). When we would visit or work in Ohio we were unable to use our membership due to the fact all of the Gold's gyms had been bought by a different company. They had us sign up for a great trainer program. Our schedule didn't work with our trainer's but that doesn't matter. We stopped going to the trainer telling her it was not working out and she also agreed on this. We finally came up with the money ($1000) to cancel our account in full. Then after everything was paid in full on both accounts (for my wife and I)we received a call a month later from Gold's asking for $4000 for our ""Trainer"", that we had not had a session with since 2008. Why would we be expected to pay for a service they can't provide, our trainers schedule was always full??? We were unable to go to the gym to train regularly during the midweek midday time slots we were being offered by our trainer. This company is awful, they are not honest up front about anything. They make it sound as if everything will be very simple and painless to cancel your membership. We asked a lot of questions about this having just moved from out of state. It is very odd they did not say a word about this $4000 bill when I was cancelling and paying my account in full. I asked over and over again is that all to the account rep, wanting to finally be finished with Gold's Gym. I also received a paid in full and your account is closed email from gold's gym. So are they looking for more money. How can Gold's Gym charge for training sessions that never took place in a gym I never returned to. All with a trainer who was not as readily available as they made it seem in the initial sales pitch. Shame on Gold's Gym. Don't make the same mistake we did and step foot into a Gold's Gym. more

Angry Unethical and Very Disrespectful 8/23/2010

Moved in to the housing just across the street, and went in to check out a good gym to call home. At first, very nice. After asking detailed questions about contracts, fees, billing. Asked about cancellation fees. The associate flip flopped stories and promises like an International House of Pancakes. Read through more of the contract, his tone became more heated, until he slammed the paper on the table and said ""YOU GONNA SIGN IT OR NOT?!"" I said ""No, I'm tired of being screwed and would like to have a copy of the contract terms (the pink sheet on the back) to look over before I made a decision."" the associate then, in a huff, told me he didn't want me working out here and told me to get out. I promptly left with pleasure more
