We were greeted by Brenda Griffieth at the desk and she was the most helpful and pleasant person I have encountered at a Hotel. The room, pool, spa and grounds were immaculate. Everything about the Hotel is first class and I would highly recommend business or leisure travelers to stay here\r more

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times and have found it to be one of the most comfortable and welcoming establishments. After working or vacationing its easy to come back to the hotel and relax either in the room or in one of the facilities (restaurant or bar) and rest. I have recommend this hotel to many colleagues and have met colleagues at the hotel that have also found it to be hospitable. The rooms are always accommodating and clean. This hotels service is all due to its very polite very friendly and extremely accommodating staff. I've never been more pleased with the staff of a hotel. If there is ever any need to move rooms, request a replacement toothbrush or have a wake up call, even down to requesting a microwave, the staff will help out. You will be greeted with respect and appreciation by the front desk staff who are friendly and inviting. If you're in town and have the opportunity to stay at the Golden Sails don't pass up the opportunity. more

The Best Western Golden Sails is a good value for the money. They are currently undergoing a renovation to fix a little wear and tear, but overall the room was comfortable. The service was great, the restaurant food was a good value, and the bar provided a comfortable area to talk with friends after work. The swimming pool and the grounds were well kept. What makes the difference is that the folks here made sure that your stay was the best they could provide. They treated us like family. They provided a welcoming party with drinks and appetizers. They gave us snack lunches etc. When I checked out, I had left an expensive item in my room which had been found by housekeeping later that day. The hotel staff worked with the folks from UPS and returned the item to me in Tucson in just a couple of days. This kind of service is rare these days. This type of service makes the Golden Sails a good value. I would stay here again. more

My husband and I just got married in Eisenhower Park in Long Beach. We are from Kansas City and had family and friends fly in. We only had 30 people, but they were extremely accomodating. We reserved rooms a year in advance as we knew our wedding was April 16, the same weekend as the Long Beach Grand Prix and we knew the hotel was going to sell out. They were very good about keeping everything in order. Check in and check out was so easy. i have to rave about the location - wow! This is on PCH which is a main street , but there was practically no traffic so it was quiet and easy to get in and out of the hotel. Schooner and Later and the Crab Pot are two of my faves to eat and they were both less than 2 miles away from the hotel. Not to mention Eisenhower park in Seal Beach was 5 minutes from the hotel. it was really perfect. Location was so important to us as so many people were coming in from out of town. Also this hotel is even distance from SNA and LAX and 5 miles from the Long Beach airport. Club PCH is the hotel bar and they had a Grand Prix party Saturday night with live music and a $10 cover. Next to Club PCH there was the room where they held the breakfast buffet and the room overlooked the ocean. For large hotel parties they gave out free buffet passes at the front desk. The food was not the best, but it's edible. The GASLAMP GRILL shares the parking lot with the hotel. This place is FUN! The drinks were a little pricey, but we had a lot of fun. They had live music and dancing and a huge patio to sit outside. Not to mention walking distance from the hotel. This bar changes hands ever 6 months to a year and each time it changes completely - last year it was a biker bar and this year it was a fun bar with dancing and karaoke! Overall we could not of picked a better hotel for our event. I recommend it very highly. Each one of our rooms had a balcony with chairs so u could sit outside -- pretty cool. Price was good too - just $100 a night! The rooms had small refrigerators and were very clean and roomy. Additionally they had a very nice pool and a gazibo outside that looked very well kept and very clean. This would probably be a very good place for a small wedding. This hotel ROCKS! more

There were 3 couples on our 1 night stay and we all enjoyed ourselves , the location of the Best Western Sails was actually pretty good .There were a lot of restraunts within driving distance . I do have to give thanks not only to the front desk staff but the excellent housekeeping staff .It seems that my wife forgot an item that was important to her and didn't realize it until we got back to San Diego .The staff found the item and it is headed to San Diego .The staff showed me that they are committed to customer service and I give them 5 stars for that . more

This Best Western is an older hotel, but the price was reasonable and affordable, and my stay was pleasant. The accommodations were nothing fancy, but met my needs. My room was clean with a hair dryer, refrigerator, and coffee maker, with fairly good coffee enjoyed from a ceramic mug each morning. Each morning I also enjoyed a free buffet breakfast. The food tasted good and the servers were attentive. I had a room with a balcony overlooking Pacific Coast Highway. Reading in the morning on the balcony with the sun shining down on me and a breeze in my face was refreshing and relaxing, which I needed considering the reason I was staying at the hotel. I chose to stay at this hotel because the location was very close to the VA Medical Center in Long Beach. My dad was very ill in the ICU and I needed to be at the hospital every day with him. The most important reason I am writing this review is because I was going through a difficult time during my stay and some staff members went out of their way to show genuine care and concern. Alicia and Brenda allowed me to have a late check out on the day of my departure, and Leo, who worked on the night shift, remembered why I was staying at the hotel and asked me about my dad when I returned to the hotel late one night. I was treated like family. Thank you and God bless you for showing that you cared. more

This was our third time staying at this hotel the outside paint job is new more inviting, instead of battleship gray. The service was great I was able to get a king no smoking when all they has was a king smoking. I also had breakfast buffet, sack lunch, dinner and 2 drinks per day included in the price for 2. The bed was comfortable we were able to sleep no back pain. The grounds were clean, inside the room was a fridge we usually have a microwave I guess it was broken. There is a bar and a main dining room(clean) pool, hot tub. If you like to eat out, In and out burger on the corner, Ralphs and whole foods, CPK , Joe's crab shack, AMC movie across the street. Hot spots 15mins away in downtown Long Beach. I will return again this is our favorite hotel and we have stayed at a lot, we like to travel. The room was spacious this was our first room in the main building, We usually have a room with a hot tub more

Always a pleasure to stay at the Sails and have been doing so for over 5 years. The staff is always friendly; from the front desk to the restaurant. The rooms are always clean although some are dated. I'll be back! more

The staff at Golden Sails was friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. So often, the only attention one normally receives today is from a commission driven sales person. The folks at Golden Sails were sincerely concerned about making my stay as pleasant as possible. Everyone greeted me with a smile and asked what they could do to help me. I truely felt as if I were home with my family. more

I came to Long Beach for a business trip staying at Best Western Golden Sails with their Gov't rate program. Can't say enough about the quality of service at the hotel. The biggest impression i had was on a Thursday morning when i could not find my wallet in my room fearing i had dropped it outside the night prior....I spent an hour combing the room looking for it and could not find it convinced i had lost it- awful feeling! I spoke with just about everyone on the staff asking if they had seen it or if anyone had turned it in. Unfortunately nobody had seen it but all knew to keep an eye out for it if it turned up, making it a priority to find it. A few hours later returning to my room i was greeted at my room by 3 hotel managers saying Amelia the maid had found it in my room while she was doing her daily cleaning! It had slipped in a crack on the chair in my room precariously wedged against the chair back support (and hiding itself really well). They had left it in place and showed me where it was found. I couldn't be happier that it was found! Thanks Best Western for the amazing support! What a true group of professionals!\r \r Highly recommend the Golden Sails for all of your conferences. I've been staying at this hotel on business for over ten years - I guess it's time to write a review. The staff is awesome! from the front desk to the waiters and bartenders, you couldn't ask for a friendlier, more helpful group. They'll do anything to make your stay more enjoyable. Location is nice, right on a marina and just a mile from the beach. Great swimming pool and a good exercise room, although they need a new Lifecycle. Rooms are large and all have a mini-fridge, some have microwaves, too. If you're going to Long Beach definitely check it out! more

The friendliness of the staff from check-in to after check-out was exceptional. The room, with balcony looking on the pool, was much larger than I expected. Room and bath were very clean and the bed was comfortable. I would have preferred a brighter light for the reading I did. The complimentary breakfast buffet had a large variety of food choices. for me, the location was perfect ; between the Yatch Club and airport. The front desk was very knowledgable and helpful with restaurant and sightseeing suggestions for my brief stay. They even kept my luggage and called and paid for a cab when I needed to get to the airport. more

The hotel was clean the service was quick and friendly. It was easy to get to following their directions. The hotels free breakfast was great. The selection was great and my picky eaters loved it. They had everything imaginable. more

If you are staying here make sure you select the government perdiem rate. This package gives you the most for your money. The breakfast and dinner at the Sails restaurant is perfect and convient and the bag lunch hits the spot everyday. The front desk personnel are friendly, helpfull and quick to help in any way. The hotel is located near everything. more

Yes, the Golden Sails is an older hotel, built in the mid 1960's. I have been staying here for years. It's like your favorite old coat; a little frayed on the edges but very comfortable. For travelers who get the per-diem package, I don't think you can get much better. It includes breakfast, bagged lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is a full buffet type and dinner is normally anything from filet mignon for swordfish to surf and turf to fried chicken. The staff is, bar none, the most cordial and professional I've experienced. There may be weddings on weekends and I recommend you get a room in the rear portion of the hotel if you relish quiet. more

Had gone to Long Beach to attend the AOPA Summit and had a very pleasant experience. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It was neat and clean and the food at the restaurant was very good. more

First and foremost, it is a older hotel. But once you get in your room they are nice and clean. The african american lady who works the front desk in the morning was the best! Bottom line if you are looking for a high class place, then go pay the money for one. But if you are looking for a hotel with a clean room, then stay there. Don't listen to the the people on here, you have to go for yourself and check it out. i had a great time there more

I'm giving this a 4 only because the rooms and food weren't much to write home about but what really stands out with this Best Western is the service. It's really what you would expect from a high-end boutique hotel. They are extremely friendly, helpful, and you get the feeling the staff are like a family. The hotel building and grounds feels like a relic from the 1960s but it's so well-kept that it's really quite lovely...it's obvious that the staff takes pride in keeping the place up. I really highly recommend this hotel. more
