I just left this place and I'm extremely satisfied with the service. I went in because my engine light was on and Matt spent about 30 minutes diagnosing the problem. He explained me the codes and referred me to the dealer. The best part was that he charged me NOTHING.\r \r I felt guilty so I even asked for the bill, but I still left with no charge! This is my second time coming into this mechanic (first for an oil change) and the second time I've been extremely satisfied.\r \r If you're looking for a friendly, competent, and most importantly HONEST mechanic, you won't find a better one in fairfield. more

Matt did a great job! I took in my husband's 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser for some maintenance work such as new spark plugs, radiator flush, and drive belt replacement. He quoted me a price of about $255 which is about half the price of other dealers in town! I was a little skeptical because this seemed like way too cheap compared to other quotes I had gotten. This guy is the real deal. Very honest and fair. Not only did he do all the work I asked, he also called me and notified me that one of the pulleys needed replaced and with my permission he replaced it without any labor charge! I would highly recommend him to anyone, good and honest mechanics are hard to come by. more

I came in for a diagnostic of the Check Engine light. The diagnostic was done immediately, taking less than 10 minutes at NO COST. I came back the next day to get the car repaired. The diagnostic code indicated a pin hole leak in the gas line. I arrived at 11:00, job was done in 90 minutes. The leak was in the gas tank. Rather than get a new/used gas tank, he suggested a silicon patch. A new gas tank costs $900. I went with the patch. It only costed $90. We'll see how long the patch lasts. \r \r The owner is friendly, but a bit of an oddball. He runs a great business though. The waiting room is small and a bit grimy, but he had great magazines. \r \r I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this guy. more

I had my car fixed here a few weeks ago. At first I was upset because I thought that it didn't work, my car was still leaking. I went back, he found the problem and fixed it real quick. I will be going back soon for some other repairs I need done. more

Got in and out! Fast services for my synthetic oil change with no appointment on a Friday morning. And my 'check in' on yelp was granted for $50 synthetic oil change, even tho i didnt get anything else done. Thanks to you matt, keep up the great customer service you provide. And thanks for showing me how to change my oil meter lol more

On Saturday 4/18/2015, the alternator went out on my car around noon I live in Antioch but work in Fairfield. I called the local dealer and a local independent repair shop. Neither one of these places had the alternator to do the repairs that day. The best possible date from either of them was Monday. I called a couple local parts stores and neither one of them had the alternator in stock as well. I had given up hope of having my car repaired until Monday and was working on a way to get home. I decided to make one more call and I am so glad that I did. Matt had me tow my car over to his shop. Not only did he do an excellent job repairing my car the same day. He pricing was fair and very reasonable. The dealer was almost $800, the other shop was almost $600. Matt charged me $434 and checked and recharged my a/c for free. Matt's customer service skills and knowledge blew me away. more

He does excellent work and even better is that he's a straight shooter. He may tell you things that you may not want to hear but I like that about him. I was headed home from SF when my check engine light came on and my car started shaking violently. I had no idea what was going on but my car was not drivable. Of course it was 5:00pm on a Saturday. Not being familiar with the area I checked the yelp reviews on the mechanics nearby (my insurance would only tow me 11 miles) and decided to called Golden Gate Auto Repair. Even though they were technically closed, the owner answered the phone and told me to have it towed over - he would even wait. I towed my car over and waited for a phone call Monday morning. I seriously expected the worst, I could SEE my engine shaking like crazy. Well it turned out to be a broken valve, he fixed it that day and I was back on the road. I was impressed with how quickly he fixed the problem, his no nonsense attitude and extremely reasonable price. He also didn't give me the ""this is what else is wrong with your car"" talk which I have come to expect with most mechanics. Overall if I become unexpectedly stranded in Fairfield again I will take my car to Golden Gate Auto Repair. more

Matt saved my weekend when my car broke down on the way to Lake Tahoe from San Francisco. The car wouldn't start after a dinner break on the road, and when the tow truck came, most places in the area were either closed already or wouldn't take my car since it was a weekend. Matt not only spent 10 minutes on the phone with me on a Friday night, but he said he would come in over the weekend to fix it, and even let me keep the car there an extra day so that I didn't have to drive back and forth from Tahoe to pick it up. He also made sure I would be OK getting to Tahoe by giving me recommendations for nearby hotels and rental cars. On Sunday they're normally closed but he opened the shop to get me my car back, which was running great, gave me recommendations for what I should do next about my car, and refused my payment. What a class act! A very stressful situation where I could have been stranded in Fairfield overnight was completely avoided because of Matt's generosity and kindness. Thank you, Matt! more

Matt is amazing! My car was broken into in San Francisco by the passengers side window being smashed in and I needed to get my car cleaned of the glass as well as have the window replaced. Not only was he cheaper than the other places but he cleaned out all the glass in my car by taking out my seat. He told me it took him about 2 hrs to clean it all out (which I believe for how much the glass flew all over the place) and he only charged me for 20 minutes! Feel free to call around for quotes, but you'll find that Mark has the best deals. He is genuine in his work and extremely friendly. Plus his hair is awesome (though he said he likes to cut it off on the summer so if you want to get the full effect only break your car in the winter time, haha). more

I took my Honda here after reading some good Yelp reviews and this place definitely lived up to its Yelp reputation. The first time I took my car there, the front end was shaking like hell whenever I drove over 65 MPH, and the owner (Matt) quickly diagnosed the problem and sent me on my way.\r \r The office was small and messy, but don't let that fool you. Matt is an excellent mechanic, charges reasonable rates, and gives you a breakdown of exactly what they did to your car. There were quite a few cars there and a lot of people called in while I was there, which gave me the impression that this was a popular place to get your car fixed. There's absolutely no hard sell and he doesn't try to gouge you by telling you that you need to have unnecessary work done. In an age of unscrupulous auto repair shops, it's a relief to find places like this. more

Got a used Jetta and it needed the timing belt and water pump changed - it was overdue. New in town so didn't know who to take it to but randomly picked this place. Boy am I glad! Matt was really cool to deal with and addressed my check engine light at the same time and ran a smog for free. He even had his guy pick me up at my house so I could pick my car up when it was ready. Service was fast and courteous and he knows his cars. Definitely would recommend to others and I will be taking my other cars here in the future. more

My car broken down on the way to Napa (with my mom and sisters in the car, for my mom's birthday weekend). Golden Gate was the only shop available in the area without needing an appointment on Saturday, had my part on-hand and also charged an honest price!\r \r I got my car fixed and was quickly on our way to Napa. Matt and his team made a very bad situation, a world of a difference. Can't thank him enough. more

Granted I am still driving my college car, but it needs love, too! However, I really balk at repair shops that give me expensive quotes for repair because...it's just a GM vehicle. I tripped across this place because it's literally less than 5 minutes from my house, and I needed my brakes done. The owner, whose hair is the cousin of Don King's hair, was SUPER cool about bringing my car in at a convenient time (which is not that easy because my schedule is a nightmare) and the price was even better; furthermore, I was really impressed with the quality of the work!!! So, just on a whim I mentioned that my speedometer and gas gage weren't working. For reference, the evil GM dealership quoted a price of at least...wait for it...$1000 (really!?) to MAYBE fix this--what a joke!!!! NO.WAY. Matt's price was $300 out the door. He had the parts in the shop within a week, and my gas gage and speedometer were working 2h after bringing my car into the shop. Super solid car shop; I was beginning to think I'd never find a good mechanic. Any future work on my car will be here. more
