Golden City

After searching all around Vancouver for decent Chinese food, my husband and I discovered Golden City right in our own backyard. The restaurant is tucked away in a very average looking strip mall so our hopes were not high, but boy were we ever pleasantly surprised! We LOVE this place and will not go anywhere else for Chinese. We have tried an array of dishes here and have never come across one that was anything less than perfect. Our favorite dishes include pork fried rice and sesame chicken. The staff are some of the nicest people you will ever meet (efficient, welcoming, and show gratitude to all customers). I have recommended Golden City to many friends in search of great local Chinese, and I am proud to say all are now hooked and have become customers for life. The ambience at Golden City is pleasant and clean, but nothing fancy. They also offer great take-out. Eat here, you will not be sorry. Pros: Delicious food, outstanding service, good value more

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in Vancouver. I'm a vegetarian and it is difficult to find really good tofu. This is the only local Chinese place I've tried where I really like the tofu--especially the deep-fried tofu with garlic. It's firm, brown on the outside, and deliciously garlicky. They have some unique items such as the scallion pancake. Although it's nothing fancy inside, it's clean, bright, and comfortable. The owners are some of the nicest restaurant owners I've ever met. This restuarant is now under new ownership and the new name is ""Golden City"". The location is just your average strip mall (between a muffler shop and a karate studio), but the new owners have cleaned and brightened the place up considerably. The attraction is not the decor or location, the food is great! There are very few REALLY good Chinese restaurants in Vancouver and a ton of average-to-downright-bad ones.\r \r We had the Golden City Chicken with Black Bean Sauce. Tender pieces of chicken stir fried with fresh asparagus, broccoli, bamboo shoots, etc and wonderful sauce. Also ordered the Sesame Beef on crispy noodles. They did a great job of quickly frying the beef so that it was crispy, but not tough. \r \r The prices are reasonable and they have a lot of interesting menu items we are looking forward to trying out!
