Godot Animal Sanctuary

We're so happy to have finally found Godot Animal Sanctuary! Truly a blessing. My 81 year old mother had to move to a nursing home. My wife and I searched for months for a place that would take her 10 year old blind dog and 12 year old cat. No one else would help. When we went there our prayers were answered. I've known the owner for almost 25 years and know first hand all the good work that's been done at the sanctuary for even longer. I was visiting there again last week and this time brought a friend to show around. My elderly mother has recently become incapacitated and had to leave her home. My wife and I live out of state and were unable to take her seven kitties which she dearly loved. We found Godot Animal Sanctuary and couldn't be more thrilled with them. They actually went to mom's house to gather the cats for us. They have a beautiful home now at the cattery there. We visited to see how they were settling in. It's wonderful. Cat trees, window seats, toys, large wood comfy beds...cat heaven! My mother, wife and I are relieved beyond belief to have found such a place. We are forever grateful to Lana and her staff. more

My husband and I were traveling through PA when our dog Bart got loose from us at a highway rest area. He ran into the woods and we tried for hours to find him. After two weeks, we returned home to NJ to find a message from Godot Animal Sanctuary on our answering machine. Bart had been hit by a car and was rescued by the owner of the sanctuary. The sanctuary not only rescued him and got him life saving veterinary care, but took him to the sanctuary, kept him safe and found us through his tags. When we drove there to pick him up we were given a tour and saw all the wonderful animals they've rescued. The place is beautiful! The sanctuary is a safe haven for many of the animals that are there. Without sanctuaries like this one,many animals wouldn't have a place to call home. I see them on a daily basis and know that they receive all the love and care they need. All of the employees have a very special bond with each and every animal and ensure that they are healthy,happy, and loved. No animal would ever be turned away for any reason. We save lives, we protect and we care. These animals are like our own. They get the best veterinary care, they get baths,(and sometimes we get a bath as well,)they get groomed, some animals receive medicine on a daily basis, every area is cleaned thoroughly, but most of all the animals are shown the love and attention they deserve. To many this would be just a job, but to us it's not a job, it's our passion, these animals strive us to make their lives great! more

I just visited them today. I got a great tour of the sanctuary and got to pet several of the animals. My favorite to pet were the deer. I also got to pet llamas and didn't get spit on,lol. The dogs have really large enclosures. I gave many treats. I'll be going back soon more

The fifth annual PAWS FOR THE CAUSE award was presented to Godot Animal Sanctuary of Punxsutawney, PA for its outstanding achievement on behalf of homeless animals. Some years back my husband and I brought our two kitties to live at the sanctuary. We had just been blessed with getting our adoptive son, Jarrod. Unfortunately he has allergies to animal dander. We loved our kitties, but had to place them with the sanctuary to guarantee them a lifetime home which we could no longer do ourselves. We live in Delaware, quite a distance from PA, but have been able to keep in touch regularly. We just visited our cats again yesterday. So happy to see them again! This visit the weather was so beautiful we took additional time to walk around and see all the animals we'd not seen before. One of the gals on staff gave us a tour and showed us the peacocks, wildlife area, horses, llamas and so many others. It's amazing! Thank you Godot for another wonderful visit! My wife and I live a short distance from the sanctuary and for years have been visiting there with our grandchildren. The children love to pet the animals! We were there again just recently and it brought back to mind an incident I'll share. Two years ago, our neighbors called my wife at 1 AM very upset that their outdoor feral cat had come home with a jar stuck over his head. Not certain what to do, we called Lana, the owner of the sanctuary, and at 2 AM she drove almost an hour to come and help. It was a hot night and the cat was in such distress, it could barely breathe in the jar. Within 15 minutes she'd caught him and quickly removed the glass container.....problem solved! Thank God for people like Lana! It's so wonderful to have an organization like this in our area. Their help with animal rescue in this community has been phenomenal. We've had 2 unadoptable dogs at our kennel for over 2 years and because of new ownership, we've had a policy change that no longer allows any animal to be wait-listed longer than 6 months. These 2 dogs were due to be euthanized. When we found Godot Animal Sanctuary and they agreed to accept them, their Director drove all the way from western PA to northern NY to help them, through their Perpetual Care program. Godot Animal Sanctuary was the only group who came to the rescue of almost 30 abandoned cats and dogs that were left behind when our neighbors moved away. My wife and I called every Humane Society and rescue in our entire tri-county area and not one of them would help. When we found Godot quite a distance away, the Executive Director, Lana, immediately sent help to rescue these poor animals who had no food, water, or decent shelter, and were left in freezing temperatures with only boxes and barrels to use for protection from the cold. Without the Godot Sanctuary and especially Lana, these animals would have died. We, and many of our friends, are forever grateful for their willingness to help. I am writing to express how impressed I am with Godot Animal Sanctuary. I am the National Shelter Director of Farm Sanctuary, the leading farm animal sanctuary in the United States. We have two shelters - one in Watkins Glen, NY and the other in Orland, CA and care for over 1000 animals on over 475 acres between the two facilities. I have worked with rescued farm animals now for over 22 years and am well respected in the farm animal sheltering community. I have visited many sanctuaries across the country. Lana, the Executive Director of Godot Animal Sanctuary, graciously took in cattle from a horrible cruelty case from us. These were not just any cattle, but those who would have been impossible for us to place, including Sprout, a special needs calf who suffered from horrible navel ill. These animals are thriving in her care. I personally went with the cattle on the trip to Godot and the sanctuary is beautiful and I felt very comfortable there. I've been an ardent advocate and supporter of many animal organizations for over fifty years. Animal welfare is a lifelong passion and mission of mine. My partnership with Godot Animal Sanctuary goes back several years when I first approached them to host my 40th annual Woollybear Festival here in Ohio. Since then our mutual efforts on behalf of animal rights and welfare issues has continued, and I am proud to be associated with them and their tireless work on behalf of the animals.
