Mixed Review 1/26/2011

My husband and I often go in for the ""Bar Special"" at night and always enjoy the great food and Denny (the Bartender) takes great care of us. Recently, I learned that bar was open for lunch and visited there with my girlfriend. We were very disappointed with the food and especially the female server. I was surprised since I had visited there before for lunch at Deeter's months ago and everything was much better. My girlfriend was so upset that she will never go back but my husband and I will still visit there at night. more

Another Great time! 8/1/2010

Took our daughter for her 21st birthday. Not only did Dennis make her feel special, she ordered her favorite filet (med. rare of all things) and was absolutely thrilled that it was really med. rare! Most establishments over cook all their fine meats. My husband and I truly enjoyed our scallops. Our daughters friend had his first taste of the legendary wienerschnitzel, much to his delight. So happy The Glass Chimney is back in full force. Here is to many years to come! Pros: Excellent Food, Ambience, Great Staff Cons: Far northside from downtown more

Nasty, Expensive and Snobbish 10/6/2009

I ate at the Glass Chimney several years ago and then again recently on a weekend evening. It appears the restaurant has declined tremendously since the new owners have taken over. The prices are extremely high considering the restaurant's interior, quality of food and waitstaff's appearance for professionalism. They should flatten the building and sell the land and forget the Glass Chimney all together. Pros: Location / Parking Cons: Everything Else more

Not worth the price 4/6/2009

Recently I ate at the Glass Castle with 12 family members. My husband, parents, aunt and I were all disappointed with our food, considering how much it cost. For example, I decided to splurge and treat myself to a $43 steak. It was very hard to chew and the flavoring wasn't anything special. The rest of the food was very average. However, the bill was very high! Not worth the cost. The restaurant recently came under new ownership and perhaps that has something to do with it. In the past this was my grandparents' favorite restaurant in Indy. Pros: Polite and helpful waitstaff Cons: Food not worth the price more

Over the Top $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$! 1/29/2009

We recently had dinner at Deeter's with two friends of ours. A couple of the specials were Dover Sole and Grouper. Our two guests had the Sole and my wife opted for the Grouper. When the bill came I was shocked to see the Sole priced at $54/order. The two orders were about 5 oz each in size. The Grouper was $35, but a fairly nice sized piece of fish. The restaurant was far from full as in the old days when Deeter was there. This may be in part due to the expansion, but also due to some of the exorbitant prices. We didn't say anything in front of our guests, but my wife called later and was told it was imported fish, the devaluation of the dollar, etc. They got me this time, but we won't be back and we've been dinning there for nearly 30 years. Beware of ""Specials"" - they're the primary profit center for this restaurant! It's too bad the new owners are ruining a once great restaurant by charging New York prices in Indiana. Pros: Always good food, great service. Cons: Prices are way out of line for Indianapolis more

Long standing tradition of quality service and food 11/11/2008

Have been going to the Glass Chimney for about 20 years. The service and food have remained outstanding. My favorites ? Oyster Cocktail, French Onion Soup, Asparagus, Filet, Fish specials (Chilean Sea Bass & Barramundi). All of the deserts are to die for. I especially enjoy those that come with a show ? like table side banana?s foster. Dennis also has some off the menu crepe specialties that are excellent. Gabriel, Dennis and David have all been providing me with great service over the years. \r \r I am a little disappointed that they were forced to give in and relax their dress code. I always like the mandatory coat and tie. \r \r I have noticed no change in service or food with the new ownership. It?s also nice to have Deeter?s open for lunch (with a reasonably priced menu)\r \r Great for special occasions or business meetings. \r Pros: Quality Food and Service Cons: Limited Seating more

Memories to be made.. 11/15/2005

I had been going here for many many years with my mothers side of my family (specifically my grandparents) since I was a child. Sadly, my grandmother passed away, and we don't go there anymore - its a bit out of my price range being a 20-something...however, it was always delicious, beautiful, elegant, and gave me so many memories. Wonderful for special occassions! Pros: Quiet, Romantic, High Quality Cons: Exspensive more

Chimey Challenge 1/13/2003

I'd challenge anyone to find a more enjoyable dining experience in Indianapolis. Deeter next door is even a better value. Pros: Food quality, Food creativity, Food value Cons: Crowd on weekends more
