Not what it used to be. 6/22/2009

This pizza used to be a family favorite. Something has transpired to make the quality not what it used to be. It is not consistent. We got one pizza with pepperoni that was so laden with oil that it was almost inedible. The cheese pizza, the same night, was too dry. When the owner is not present, I don't get the feeling the ""kids"" are watching the store. Pros: Kid friendly environment Cons: Quality of pizza has slipped more

Still searching for the best pizza 7/13/2008

In my quest to find really great pizza I went on to a common search site to look at the reviews in my area. I came upon Giovanni's and the positive reviews intrigued me so I sent my husband there for our Friday night dinner. I was so excited to try the pie but was less then excited when I opened the box. The toppings were slim and there was barely a full layer of cheese. The flavor was ok nothing special or out of the ordinary, the crust was thin but chewy and kind of difficult to eat. Needless to say I wasn't too impressed and now my search for really great pizza continues...... Cons: too expensive for the quality more

Pizza Heaven 6/12/2008

Tonight was the night that I re-discovered pizza. OH MY GOD! I was persuaded to try a pizza that I thought that I was going to hate, thin crust, just cheese, only mozzerella as an option. Well anyway, boy was I wrong. My friend Scott is originally from Rhode Isand and insisted that this was the only way to eat pizza and that Giovannis was the only place to eat it at. Okay Scott, whatever! So I gave it a try and was totally blown away, how can something so simple be so good? Well at the counter was Giovanni himself, a real New Yorker, he said that he has been makeing pizza for his entire life and that the best way to judge a pizzaria is to try their plain cheese and that if they can't make that taste good well then I should move on and keep searching. Well I cannot believe that I am going to say this; Thin crust plain cheese pizza at Giovanni's is the only way to eat your pizza! Pros: Plain cheese pizza Cons: none at all more

I live in Sacramento for nine whole years now, and I cannot beleive that it took me this long to discover Giovanni's Pizza. This place takes pizza back to when I was a kid living in Brooklyn. The first thing that I noticed was the smell, that by itself brought back memories of childhood then I tasted the pizza and all I could say is WOW. I am just going to leave it at that. The most awsome pizza 7/13/2007

I cannot believe how awsome this place is. The pizza here is sooooo awsome. Try the pizza rustica, or ask for it without the salami like I do, it makes a great vegetarian type pizza. The salad sicilian style has olives, onions, parmeson and house made Italian, also awsome. A huge selection of microbrews, also awsome. Can be busy at times but well worth it. At last, a piece of home 7/1/2007

I tuned in to KFBK radio as I was on my way to the market, I heard the owner of Giovanni's N.Y. Pizza being interviewed. At first I was skeptical, but as I kept listening I became sold on having pizza for lunch the next day. So I took my wife and my daughter to Giovanni's. Oh my God! it has been about twenty years since I had a real pizza. The size of the slice, the tase of the sauce and the crispiness of the crust, the whole package. Finally, at last I can go out and get a slice for lunch or a pie for dinner. I am from Astoria N.Y. where some of the best food in the world comes from, so I know. Giovanni's is right up there with the best of the best. Thanks to John and the guys at Giovanni's Pizza and thanks to KFBK for having John on their show. The perfect pie 6/28/2007

Eating at Giovanni's Pizza may be the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. Pizza just happens to be my favorite food. Eating at Giovanni's makes me want to take a trip to the Big Apple. I grew up eating at big chain pizza parlors, only hearing about places like this. I tried a few local family owned Italian pizzarias, there was nothing special about them. Giovanni's just became my new pizza parlor, I can't see myself eating anywhere else. They are definately the best anywhere. Pros: BEST PIZZA ANYWHERE more

Giovanni proves that it's not the water! 3/5/2007

Well, I found it hard to be true. My buddy Mike told me about Giovanni's and my responce was that he had been away from New York for to long and that his taste buds are just a little rusty and that he needed to take a trip back east . I was sooooo wrong, I travel to New York all the time, always eat pizza and also believed that it could not be done anywhere else in the world. Giovanni's makes some of the best pizza that I ever had, probably THE BEST. I walked up to the cashier and asked for the owner, just a minute later, Giovanni came out and told me about how he has been doing this since childhood and that a true pizza maker makes his dough from scratch knowing when to tweek his recipe. Also stated that most pizzeria's are just part of a fast food chain and that there are no pizza makers, just people following instructions on how to put a premix together. I am now hooked on Giovanni's and I will tell all about this unbelievable pizzeria. Pros: unbelievable pizza & friendly people more

Best Pizza and Beer to die for 10/19/2006

John, You asked me to let all of my friends know about your restaurant, I decided to kick it up a few notches and tell the whole country! Giovanni's Pizzeria has true old world pizza. They make everything from scratch and use only the highest quality ingredients. I grew up on the lower east side of N.Y.C. and ate pizza almost every day. This is the only pie that I can say is really N.Y. pizza. What is better at Giovanni's is that they have their own microbrewed beer and they are not shy about giving out samples. I tried their Stout and my girl had thier Birra, both of us agreed that this was the best beer that we ever tasted. Giovanni's is the only pizzeria that you can go to and have the best of both worlds. WE LOVE THIS PLACE. Pros: PIZZA and BEER more

This is my absolute favorite place for pizza. I also don't understand the comments about the Lohemans Plaza location, I have been going there a long time and have not noticed a decline in the least. more

Richard L is full of it!!! Loehmann's uses the same ingredients as the other restaurants. You think that John (the owner) would let each location use their own ingredients. No way!!!\r \r I've met him, he's very from Brooklyn... do I have to say more. I've been to the Loehmann's location and the pies have always been as good as the other locations. Although I've only been to the Folsom location other than Loehmanns, so I can't speak of Land Park or Natomas.\r \r Richard L should not make such claims without any proof. Skim milk... Giovanni's pizza 8/20/2006

I have been a Giovannis customer for several years and have enjoyed the great pizza and other delights. Whomever is cooking elsewhere is taking shortcuts and skimping on the ingredients. The cheese no longer is the good Buffalo Mottzarella as I was accustomed to, but is the cheaper low fat, skim milk variety. The wonderfully thin crust has is great! THE BEST PIZZERIA IN CALIFORNIA 8/1/2006

I have been going to Giovanni's since they first opened six or seven years ago. I always try a pizza joint that has an Italian name, this is the only one that is for real!!! Giovanni is a fello Italian guy from N.Y. who is a pizza champion. I go there for the pizza, but I can tell you that all of their food is excellent. As for the service, they are down to earth people who work hard and really appreciate your business, I never had a problem. As a matter of fact, there were several times that they gave me a beer on the house while I waited for my order, nothing was wrong, they did it because they appreciate my business. PIE HIGH 5/11/2006

THIS IS THE BEST PIE THAT I EVER ATE. THEY MAY SEEM PRICEY, BUT THEIR SIZES ARE MUCH LARGER THAN ROUND TABLE. GIOVANNI HIMSELF MADE MY PIZZA, HE WAS THERE WITH A TOMATO SPLASH ON HIS SHIRT MAKING PIZZAS JUST AS FAST AS ANY IN N.Y. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO HIM, HE CAME AND INTRODUCED HIMSELF TO ME AND MY GIRL. HIS ACCENT WAS SO STRONG, THAT SARAH COULDN'T UNDERSTAND HIM, BUT I DID BEING I AM FROM QUEENS . This is Pizza 1/16/2006

As a Jersey born Italian, I had nearly given up on what passes for Pizza on the left coast (two inches of flavorless dough and and half an inch of plastic cheese does not a Pizza make), in a final desparate attempt I called Giovanni's. Not only did he understand what I meant when I asked for a ""large plain pie"", but the pizza proved to be the equal of any Jersey/New York thin crust I've yet tasted. Customer service has always been good - once when a medium pie came out slightly lopsided, the manager sent me home with an additional medium (perfectly round) for free. This is NOTHING like the round table/pizza hut places that pass for pizza places out here so if a padded booth and unforgivably bad pizza is your preference, look elsewhere. Pros: Pizza, Pizza, Pizza Cons: Does not deliver more
