Only had one dish that was ok and the 4/17/2012

Only had one dish that was ok and the rest was excellent. The fresh pasta, the sauces and the attention to detail really were impressive. Service was good too. Only negative is the space is like a fish bowl. I like a little more privacy. I would recommend this place to those looking for more refinement in Northern Italian cuisine. more

First Class Experience 9/29/2010

What a great restaurant! The service was fantastic and the food was absolutely as delicious as it gets -- not pretentious, but special and very satisfying. I'm not much of a dessert eater, but I was blown away by the chocolate torte. My strongest recommendation for a great weekday meal, or a place to go for the most special of occasions. I'll be back! more

Good food and service 9/15/2010

Went there last night for anniversiry. Pasta was really good and the waitress was very pleasent. More expensive than most restuarants but great for special occasions. The lamb meatballs were great! more

Excellent food and service 12/27/2008

My husband and I were craving Pici pasta we had tried in Italy. The chef at Gorgio's agreed to make this pasta for us when we arrived. Food and service were excellent! I had a chestnut and celery soup that had a beautiful flavor to it. The atmosphere was cozy and beautiful with lights on wreaths hanging at each window. We had a great time and can't wait to go there again. Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: a little pricy, but delicious more

Tremendous service with fabulous food and top-notch setting and ambiance 8/2/2008

We had our first Giorgio's experience a couple months ago and it was incredible. I would highly recommend this both for the quality, delicious Italian food and the service and ambiance. The staff is friendly and very attentive without being overbearing or hovering: a tough balance to pull off as attentive as they were. The setting is beautiful and much care has gone into making it elegant while approachable and very comfortable. The food was prepared perfectly from the appetizers to the salads and entrees to desserts. We would go again anytime and highly recommend it. Pros: service, ambience, food Cons: Pearl parking depending when you go more

A Wonderful Treat 6/11/2008

I just had such a lovely experience at Giorgio's for lunch that I had to sign up for CitySearch to write a review! I was a tad leery to go, since I had seen some reviews that weren't positive at all...but decided to go anyways based on a friend's recommendation. And I'm glad I did! I loved the daily menu based on season and local organic foods. I decided on skate wing over risotto and peas...something I have never ordered before, but took the waiters advice based on his thorough knowledge of food preparation and willingness to discuss our food options based my specific likes. The food was AMAZING - it was an explosion of tastes that left me wanting more, despite my full belly. Go to Giorgio's if you're looking for an upscale dining experience, with a unique menu, delicious food and very knowledgeable and friendly service!!!! Pros: FOOD!!! more

Fantastic cuisine; delightfully served! 6/11/2008

I dined at Giorgio's for lunch today and was very pleased with the quality and freshness of the cuisine. From the bread to the final course all of the food was very clean and delicious. Our server mentioned the lunch menu changes daily due to the use seasonal and locally grown food used in their dishes. With the details given to us about the cuisine at Giorgio's, our server made some great suggestions. We started with a beautiful beet salad, which was accomponied with fresh greens, roasted pistachios, tangelos, and goat cheese. The goat cheese was not your everyday run of the mill pick; it had a creamy consistency and was very flavorful. My entree was wild board served with a red sauce atop house-made pasta, which was absolutely mouthwatering. We had a chance to speak briefly with owner, who was very friendly and gracious. Highly recommended. Pros: Local and seasonal ingredients; friendly service more

Top 10 worst place in Portland 2/4/2008

Anyone who knows anything about Italian food and hospitality would know that this places is a typical over priced, overrated, sub par dining establishment, that caters to people with low expectations and palates. Perhaps it was the 1 hour wait for our food; or perhaps it was the fact that the under cooked chicken (I am not talking about cutting open a breast to find it under cooked; I am talking delicate slices presented under cooked) presented an undesired illness. We did, however receive the token apologies a few times between the delay and poor preparation, but only enough to make sure we get charged for everything full price. Now that is a place worth dining. Pros: courtesy Cons: everything esle more

Always outstanding 9/11/2007

Giorgio?s has become the restaurant I go to for special occasions; simply because I know that I will have a wonderful dining experience. The food is always spot on. I?ve never had a dish that wasn?t near perfect. Their homemade pastas are always amazingly delicate. I?ve have some very nice seasonal fish dishes. My last visit I tried their duck ragu, and was tempted to get it again for dessert, but I didn?t want to miss out on their dessert menu! While many restaurant have amazing food, but average desserts, all the desserts I?ve had at Giorgio?s have been wonderful- some of the best I?ve ever had. The service has always been great. Every time I go I have a perfect evening. Pros: Food, service, pasta, desserts Cons: parking can be difficult more

Hearty, harmonious flavors in a relaxed atmosphere 9/8/2007

Having heard that the chef at Giorgio?s was a veteran of Per Se in NYC, we knew we had to give it a shot. Given this info, our expectations were understandably high, and yet, the meal managed to exceed these expectations. We were greeted immediately, seated promptly, and found the service very attentive without crossing the line into invasive (request Zach). We started with a sunburst squash salad (the only wouldn't-necessarily-order-it-again item we tasted) and the caramelized Walla Walla sweet onion salad - which was incredible, both in flavor and presentation. For our next course, we opted to share the house specialty, the handmade pappardelle with duck. Though the dish wasn't particularly inventive - it was PERFECTLY executed, with an ideal balance of flavors (not overly salty as many duck dishes are!) and I'll absolutely order this dish again and again. For our main courses we chose the rib eye and scallops - both were truly outstanding. The desserts were delicious; however, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to have dessert here. Other reviewers seem to fault portion sizes or prices, however we found the prices par for the course (if not slightly lower?) and portion sizes similar to all high-end, food-focused restaurants. We will definitely dine at Giorgio?s again. Pros: Perfectly prepared food, attentive service Cons: Tables too close to the kitchen hear much back of the house banter more

DO NOT RECOMMEND 4/12/2007

My husband and I went to Giorgio's last week and we were very unimpressed. The restaurant was not that busy but we had to wait forever for our food. A group of 3 and another person came in after us and received their food before us and had left before our food came. No explanation as to why, no apologies, and my meal tasted like it had been sitting around for awhile. We had both basically finished our glasses of wine before our meals came and no offer was made to get a second glass. Also, the salad advertised gorgonzola cheese, and that was not the cheese served. Needless to say the waitress got a very poor tip and we will not be back. more

Fresh Italian 2/28/2007

If you like McDonald's, don't go here. If you like artificial flavors, don't go here. If, however, you like fresh flavors, handmade pasta, and good service, GO HERE. I agree with other reviews: if you don't like good food you will not like Giorgio's. You know who you are. I was almost scared away by the negative reviews - don't be. Follow your instincts straight to NW 10th and Hoyt. My husband and I are both vegetarians and found 2 entrees and numerous starters from which to choose. Handmade gnocchi was fabulous. The desserts were also amazing - try the panna cotta, with a hint of white chocolate. My only warning is that you may want to request a table in the corner to avoid the busy right-of-way. However, we were seated in this busy section and were not bothered - the busyness was entertaining, not distracting or invasive. Pros: fresh handmade gnocchi and pasta more

Best business lunch in town 1/12/2007

Giorgio's food is fantastic. Period. This is by far the best place to bring clients for an upscale (very expensive) lunch. Start to finish, every little morsel is perfect. Now where is everyone? I hope they don't discontinue their lunch service because it always seems to be slow.\r Keep up the good work!!! Pros: Fantastic food Cons: Expensive/ghost town more

Great food outside in the shade. 7/3/2006

This place was a haven while searching for a precious outdoor table in the Pearl without being singed in the afternoon sun. The waitress, Micheala, was very nice and the food was awesome. Interesting cocktails made this charming restaurant feel like our own private, sidewalk lounge. The hen was yummy and the tables outside were nice and shady. Pros: Great outdoor seating. Cons: Chef was a little weird but who cares if the food is good. more

Fantastic! A great restaurant for foodies (but not for everyone) 6/28/2006

I live in Seattle but have been to Giorgio's approximately 10 times when in Portland on vacation and business. The combination of phenomenal food, friendly atmosphere, elegance, and intimate size make it a more enjoyable combination than any restaurant in Seattle. Each of my visits has been a great experience -- from the first time 18 months ago when my wife & I ate with snow falling under the street lights outside our table by a window, to the latest visit a few weeks ago, when my 2 colleagues from Seattle praised me for taking them to the best restaurant they'd ever visited. \r \r The menu is completely seasonal and based on what is fresh each day. Preparations are delicate, perfect, and beautifully presented. As the editorial review notes, it is basically French-style preparation of modern Italian dishes. The dishes are imaginative and creative; I am always surprised and delighted to try the new ideas they are presenting that I've never seen before.\r \r The kitchen is very accommodating -- if you ask, they can recommend changes to items on the menu to suit your taste. For instance, there are always 1 or 2 vegetarian entrees, but they will gladly consider ways to prepare meat-based items in a vegetarian alternative. The wine list is excellent and reasonably priced for the selections. They feature a number of well-selected wines; the local Oregon selections (such as Lemelson, one of my favorites) are particularly good. Service is friendly, helpful, and efficient.\r \r Why are there some bad reviews? Giorgio's is only for foodies, that is, people who love beautiful, creative, and delicious food and are willing to pay for it. Those who want a fast dinner (good food takes time), a large dinner (French/Italian style is elegant and small), a cheap dinner (immaculate & fresh preparation is expensive) or who expect ""standard"" dishes (Giorgio's showcases creativity) will be disappointed. It is a place only for people who love great food. Pros: Creative, delicious food Cons: Not for people who expect standard dishes, huge portions, or cheap food more

WONDERFUL ITALIAN EXPERIENCE 3/1/2006

Giorgios is an intimate Italian restaurant. The food and wine are authentic. This is one of our favorite spots for a romantic dinner or impressing out-of-towners. The food is very well priced for both quality and quantity. The wine list is impressive with many wonderful options but is a little pricier. Excellent service and attention to detail. Pros: italian food, wine list, service Cons: wine cost more

Insanely, mouth-wateringly delicious 2/15/2006

I have heard/read many great reviews about this place and the new chief who was trained under Thomas Keller. We went for Valentine's Day. It was fabulous! Excellent service. Incredible flavor. Knowledgable staff. Cute little bar to have a quick martini before dinner. I am already planning my next visit so we can taste more plates. The wild boar pappardelle is to DIE FOR. I wanted to pick my plate up and lick it and my friend's as well. Perfectly cooked pasta and meat sauce. aaahhhh....yummmm Pros: chief, food, staff more

Worst Dining Experience 1/26/2006

The lighted wreaths in the window caught my eye. Very expensive for what you get. I enjoyed a small complimentary taste of soup. The apple salad was tastless. I didn't eat it and was not charged. I ordered medium well beef. It was medium well on the edge. I ate the edge. There were a few small bites of potato & carrot. There was a small complimentary mushroom ravioli that was good. The lemon tart with honey sorbet was good. Expensive. Not worth it. Cons: Numerous more

highly recommended 1/9/2006

The wildboar pasta is the best thing i ever tasted! more
