Georgia Power is not a bad company 2/16/2012

I've had electric service with Georgia Power most of my life. First in another city, then in Savannah (for the past 21 years). I own a 2500 sf home and my level power bill is $127.00 per month. I'd say that's pretty good. The reliability of my electric service is pretty good, too. The problem with GA Power in Savannah is that it bought the old rag-tag Savannah Electric, which was a really sorry electricity provider. GA Power is in the process of upgrading the power distribution system in Savannah, but it will take many more years to complete.\r \r If your power bill is super high, then something is wrong in your home/apartment. I'd have it checked out with GA Power's free in-home energy checkup. I did that and have saved big bucks by implementing new energy saving suggestions. more

Georgia Power needs to be shut down. If only there were another power company that I could get service from I would cancel my account with these people immediately. They apparently can't make enough energy for all of Savannah so in order to get people to try and conserve their energy in the summer and winter months, they more than TRIPLE their rates. This is ridiculous and they flat out admit that they know what they're doing is wrong and they don't care. I'm a broke college student living in an apartment that only has one tiny bedroom, a hallway that doubles as my kitchen and a living room and there have been many months where my bill has been over $400. And I have friends with similar sized apartments and their bills have been over $600. There was one month when my bill was $450 and I called them and they told me to put my thermostat at their recommended temperature, which I did.I tried not to leave ANYTHING plugged in over night, and I limited what I plugged in during the day and left my thermostat at their recommended temperature and my bill WENT UP the next month even though my actual energy usage went down. When I called the following month, they refused to even help me deal with this issue. This company needs to be shut down and a nicer, less greedy replacement built in its place. more

Uncaring and Ruthless 1/11/2010

In these very hard economic times, I have NEVER encountered a company so rude! A payment was late due to a situation at my bank to no fault of my own and was given 4 days or power would be shut off. Well they shut it off right away! They still would not (after paying full balance in cash only - because that is all they would accept, take off $150 in fees! This was a lie on their part and some of us are struggling. You cannot get anyone there to help or to listen. I will be contacting WSAV like I saw one guy do and maybe find another company if there is any. What if there was a child in the home or someone who needed medical hook ups? All they care about is money and lying(like the 4 days promised) This is un-American and they are mean, uncaring scammers. When told we would contact local news station about the situation, response was ""Go Ahead!"" I don't know how they sleep at night. What a way to run a business!!! Also how is it that 2 people in a home have a bill of close to $400? The whole neighborhood pays average of $70 even in the freeze! You think they would care to help or look into the problem? We can't even afford to put a meal on the table much less pay to have that done too! We will just have to get assistance elsewhere and I pray these jerks don't do this to anyone else! I'm sure they have after speaking to numerous employees there. They must be trained to be complete a-holes to anyone and everyone they can! Good business tactics! You should all be fired! Pros: can't think of one Cons: high fees, unfair, won't work with you, predjudice more
