Gateway Playhouse Bellport

Melissa S. Holtsville,NY I went with my friend to see the Little Mermaid on 7/31/22. The theatre smelled of mildo and the seats very uncomfortable. The female usher that was in there short dark hair and glasses was very rude and condenscending. I took a few pictures and a couple videos as did most of the people in that audience but for some reason this usher singled me out and told me that I would have to leave if I continued. I than got up to go to the bathroom and this usher literally follows me and approaches me and said put your phone away into your purse or you'll have to leave. Apparently as I was left for the bathroom the usher raced back down the aisle to watch my friend to make sure she wasn't taking pics or recording. It was beyond ridiculous with this usher. Meanwhile as I was walking back to my seat I saw most of the audience recording and taking pictures of the show and the usher said nothing to them. She just kept watching me the whole time like I was an infant. The show was great excellent performances by all but the theatre needs some work done and that usher definitely needs to go. more

Recenlty I took my daughter to the playhouse to see a production of The Jungle Book. They do both childrens theater and regualr theater. All of their products are of Broadway quality. They have two locations, Patchogueand Bellport, so make sure you know which location you are going to. The Bellport location is an old theater house and it is lovely. After the childresn production, the actos go outside and the children can get autographs and interact with them. more

This theater is like being on off-Broadway, but without the hassle of the city. You will not be disappointed with the performances since professional directors, performers, musicians, and technicians from New York City, and around the country run the show. Shows are typically come from Broadway. For example they have had Evita, Aida, 42nd Street, and The Full Monty. They even have an acting school for kids, teens, and adults. more

Gateway Playhouse, located on South Country Rd. in Bellport, has been a Long Island staple for the performing arts. Starting in 1950, many future Broadway and Hollywood players acted at Gateway, including future stars Robert Duvall and Gene Hackman. The history and experience is rich and will continue to be at Gateway. more

The gateway playhouse is a popular destination in my family and it hasa picturesque summer theatres. It is one of the top ten summer theatres in the nation. They have been in operation for more than 50 years. It is nice to be able to see and hear a broadway show here on long island without having to deal with taking the rain into the city. more
