Our dentist recommended Dr. Garrett for my son's braces. The whole braces experience was completely new to us, so we didn't know what to expect. Consequently, I was in a very observant and questioning mode....for months: "Who is this doctor? How good is he? Will he listen to my son's concerns? Will he listen to my concerns?".
It wasn't long before my observations happily acknowledged how focused and competent Dr. Garrett is. Time after time, whichever patient I saw him with at any given moment, he was completely focused on that patient's orthodontic care.....not that I would expect anything less, but I'm talking focused! Often, as I watched him in his focused state, I felt like was witnessing the wheels of his brain calculating the big picture and the details all at the same time. It gave me immense satisfaction to observe his focused care of my son's progress.
For almost two years we plodded back and forth to his office. If we ever came in with a question or concern, his answer would always prove correct once we addressed the concern in the manner he suggested. (Of course I was a 'Doubting Thomas' on occasion, but it turns out that I never needed to be.) If we ever needed an impromptu visit to fix a pokey-wire or some other concern, the office staff promptly fit us into the schedule. The office staff, from the front desk personnel to the orthodontic technicians, were always genuinely cheerful, personable, and respectful, willing to hear my questions and concerns and take the time I needed to get a full answer.
One aspect of Dr. Garrett's care that silently stood out to me was the comparative difference between the care I saw him give my son in terms of my son's comfort and the care I perceived other kids with braces received from their orthodontist. If you are new to braces, then you wouldn't necessarily know that there are all kinds of adjustments that can be made....new wires top and/or bottom, the addition of rubber bands, bite blocks, the list goes on. Tools of the trade. However, I never witnessed Dr. Garrett giving my son too much adjustment at any one visit. He seemed to take him steadily through progressive teeth movement, and hence my son never had more than a few days of discomfort after an adjustment. I saw other kids who went to other orthodontists end up with two, three, even four different types of adjustments at a visit. As a result, the kid was experiencing discomfort for days and days. I note that this was my observation only. I do not, in fact, know that multiple adjustments in one visit is warranted in many cases.
My son's braces have been removed and we are now in follow up, but I can earnestly and confidently tell anyone reading this that you and your child will get nothing but the best from Dr. Garrett and his staff.
