Pepe's set the standard all others must follow! 7/11/2005

One can argue that Frank Pepe invented Pizza or at least made it what it is today. Pepe's set the standard to which all others must follow. What most people refer to as New York style pizza is in fact Pepe's style. This is the pizza that is most often imitated. Like the saying goes imitation is the highest form of flatery. That being said, let me address those people who complain about long waits and bad service. Hello people this is a pizza joint. You go here to have pizza, beer and soda!! This is not a five star resturant and it dosen't have to be. If you want great food from any place, there is always a wait or you have to make reservations. If you have never had Pepe's pizza then you need to try it then use it as the bench mark for all other pizza. Pros: Pizza, Pizza, Pizza Cons: None, None, None more

Best Pizza anywhere 6/28/2005

Pepe's is pthe one pizza plaxe that lives up to its incredible hype. Its quite simply the best Pizza I've ever had. Last time I was there I was in line with a woman ho had literealluy just gotten off the placne from CA, and the firest thing she wanted was a slice of pepe's. The only probelm is, everyone knwos how good it is, so getting int he door is quite an adventure. Expect a long wait. I ahve enver seen it without a line out the door. Never. And they dont take reservations. more

Why do you think just about every pizza place in the state of CT has the words Woster street, Frank, Pepe, or Brick Oven in their name? It is worth every second of a 3 hour wait in below frezeing weather to eat a pizza at the original! Pros: Beyond good food Cons: They know the food is more

WOW !! What a Pizza 4/6/2005

This is the real thing. Frank Pepe's is amazing !! A cold windy Saturday in March produced a 30 minute wait outside to get in, and I usually would not want to wait but this was worth every minute of it. The place has the old school pizza charm, a huge coal fired oven, family members waiting tables and no prices on the chalkboard menu. The pizza is among the best ever and the fresh clam and bacon combo may be my all time favorie. Two pies only cost $18 total, a guy in line had driven in from Manhattan, that says it all, Frank Pepe is a 11 on a scale of 10. more

You find yourself standing in a long line on a cold day while there are plenty of empty seats inside. God help you if you want a refill because your server seems to have died in the back. And if you look at it honestly, it's not New Haven's best pizza. Overall though, it's the place to go and the thing to do. You were raised doing it and you still do. Try the ""Potato Chip."" Going to Pepe's is like a tradition for my family. Every time we go we always eat the best pizza and leave happy and full. Being Italian, my family knows what the best pizza is and their pizza even beats my dad's pizza!! Pepe's is sooo popular that there is always a line out the door and sometimes you wait in line for a long time but trust the Italians-- the pizza is always worth it. Pepe's for short is rated best in CT you will find their certificates that say so. I am only 12 year old girl, I can eat a whole large clam pizza about 30 minutes or less I usually only eat 2 pieces anywhere else but here its got this taste thats out of this world the cheese is the best I everhad too i usually eat about only 3 or 4 cheese pieces because im scared if I even just take 4 minutes to eat some of the cheese my mother would ate all the good clam pieces or most of them haha. I go at least every 2-4 weeks. Worst thing about it that its crowded,not a problem because The Spot Pepe -ORIGINAL- is smaller with a smaller line - ITS the same exact quality I go to both the Spot and this one PLZ GO, TRUST ME!!! The Wooster St. legend is home to white clam pizza and one of the world’s oldest and most famous pizzerias. Known locally as Pepe’s (pep-eez), it has its Original Location in the Wooster Square neighborhood of New Haven, CT. Today, there are 14 additional locations across CT, MA, RI, NY, MD, VA, and FL
    Frank Pepe knew in 1925 that only coal burns hot and dry and doesn’t give off steam like a wood fire. He knew that only a coal fire could give his “tomato pies” their famous crisp, charred, chewy crust.
