SHHH! Don't tell everybody but this is the best Mex in Scottsdale! 2/12/2009

Family owned restaurant originally, based on the Bernal family recipes from their original store in Socorro NM. What that means is the best red and green chile's grown on the family farm in the Rio Grande Valley that make the flavorful sauces. Start with the home made chips and salsa and a side of guacamole. The red, green and mole chile sauces are so tasty. My favorite is the #6 flat enchiladas with red and green sauce and fried egg on the top. But its a tough choice because the chicken mole enchiladas or the green chile soup are fantastic. Thirsty, sit at the bar on the back patio and ask Justin shake up a top shelf margarita on the rocks for you. No frozen foo foo drinks here. Eric, Hugo, Ray, Freddy and the rest of the crew keep the food and drink flowing. My wife and I have been regulars since they opened up 10 years ago in the little storefront on the Marshall Way and have watched this restaurant blossom. So much so that the wait during prime time can be significant. So what, you are on Mexico time! Grab a cold Negra Modela or a pitcher of margaritas and chill out, the food will be worth the wait. If the parking lot is full, there is plenty of parking in the back, enter through the alley. Teddy Bernal manages the joint, but you'll see brother Eddie and parents Frank and Lupe make appearances when they aren't in Socorro minding the store and growing the chiles. Pros: Great food and drinks, good service, friendly wait staff, good value Cons: Crowded during peak times, small parking lot more

Delicious steak tacos and stacked enchiladas! 10/11/2008

I'm surprised by some of the poor reviews on the site. We eat here regularly....if you like lots of cheese on your Mexican food and yummy tortillas, this is a great place for you. Is it super authentic? Probably not. But when we're looking for a nice old school Mexican food fix, Frank & Lupe's fits the bill. The chips and salsa are great and there is outdoor seating in the cantina, which is fun. Pros: yummy steak & cheese; strong margaritas Cons: parking lot is small more

Best in town! 9/12/2007

I've been going to Frank & Lupe's since 2000, and I have always had a fabulous time. It's by far my favorite place to go in town. The service is always great, and the food is always a treat. It has never been a disapointment, and that's hard for a restaurant to do. I recommend it to everyone! Pros: It's always great!!! Cons: Sometimes it's hard to find parking, but it's worth it. more

Soooo disappointed 8/20/2007

I will start by saying service was friendly and fast. We began with the Extreme Nachos and they were PHENOMENAL!. One of my friends went so far as to say they are the best she?s ever had, which is a big deal, because she is oh so picky. Okay so I ordered the enchiladas del mar and you know what? It was HORRIBLE!!! The crab was imitation crab and the shrimp were those tiny Geisha shrimp. Nowhere on the menu did it indicate it was imitation seafood! We also opted for the spicy red sauce and it was sooo bland. The salsa that comes with the chips would have been better! I had 2 bites. We did order fried ice cream after and that was really good, but god the main dish was just god awful! There are too many Mexican restaurants here to even entertain returning for the nachos. We were so disappointed and the staff was so friendly so it breaks my heart to say anything bad but unfortunately it's the honest truth. more

Frank and Lupe's has great mexican food and a wonderful atmosphere. The best part is the freshly made sopapilla's served with honey with the meal! Friendly service with live music in the evenings. Pros: Inexpensive more
