Horrible Restaurant. 2/18/2012

Vegetarians beware!!! I just at pig for the first time in 24 years. Thanks a hell of a lot, Franco's. I hope everyone that reads this reviews understands that this is NOT an overly critical review. This is an honest scalding review. I have driven by this restaurant for years, and today decided to try them out. I was in the mood for some Italian food, and they had good reviews on Yelp. Now, here is the truth. 1. THEY PUT ANIMAL IN MY VEGETARIAN DISH!!! 2. Out of a staff of 6 there is only one Italian. The rest appear to have been born in Mexico. 3. Their House White Wine is $9.00 a glass. They do not post the price of the wine...until you get your bill. I could go on and on, but I won't get to nit-picky. Let's be real. The main complaint is that they, whoever made my meal in the kitchen, decided to put prosciutto inside the eggplant rollatini. Maybe they don't know that people have dietary preferences and/or restrictions. Maybe they just don't care. Maybe they just don't know how to do their job. i'm not sure, but what I do know is that no one from the kitchen came to apologize. I know that I still paid for that meal. I know that before we left, the entire staff was sitting in the dining room eating their meal. You see, I was eating a very late lunch. They heard me complain to the waitress that I could not believe that such a grievous error was made, and NO ONE from the kitchen, i.e. the Chef, came to apologize to me. Even with me expressing my utter unhappiness about what they did to me, still, the staff just sat at their table and continued to eat their meal. Not only do I question their cooking skills, but I question their customer service skill, and quite frankly, their ability to be decent human beings. I waited tables when I was younger, and I've done my fair share of eating out. There were a lot of right things that this restaurant staff could have done, they did nothing. I am a vegetarian for my own personal beliefs. What about the Muslims and Jews out there that do not eat pork for religious purposes? By the way, I am writing this review with a stomach ache. Bottom line, there are over 8 thousand restaurants in Orange County. Go eat at any one of them before you even think about eating here. more

Not Worth the price for Dinner! 3/21/2008

The place doesn't look to appealing on the outside but is actually not bad on the inside. A genuine surprise awaited inside in the form of a piano player. To get to the point, our salad was avg. I had the ceasar and my girlfriend had a house salad. She wasn't pleased at all, and I was content at best. When our main dishes arrived, my girlfriends dish looked rather small for a filet mignon. The seemed rather stingy with their meat. A dish she normally finishes (as most ppl would), couldn't muster another bite because of its 'off flavor'. My dish of Chicken Alfredo was bland, except for the chicken which was actually good. But the main flavor was lacking something. We wanted to try somewhere new for our anniversary, and since Franco's was ranked high on city search we thought we'd try it out. WHAT A MISTAKE! For a dinner over 65 dollars you'd expect alot better. Go somewhere else for dinner! Pros: Piano Player, Prompt Curteous Service Cons: Price, Food more

So good!!! 1/2/2008

After reading reviews about this place and driving by a few times I thought I'd give it a try. Needless to say I was very impressed. The decor is simple and very mom and pop but the staff is wonderful. They are very friendly and treat you as if you've been coming there for years. I loved how attentive they were to all my lunch time needs. My co-worker and I tried the calamari appetizer which was great, the marinara sauce that accompanied the dish was so fresh and delicious my mouth is watering as I type this. For my entree I chose the linguini with bolognese sauce. I can't even put into words how good the sauce was! I'm a big fan of the creamy tomatoe sauce and this dish really pleased my appetite. I would definitely be coming back whenever I have a craving for Italian food. 2 thumbs up!!! Pros: Staff, easy parking, THE FOOD!!! Cons: Strip mall location, average decor more

Great Italian, listen carefully to specials they are superb 5/20/2007

My first review so here goes. I have been in LA for the last 5 months on business so I had ample opportunities to eat out. Franco's quickly became one of my favorites. Everyone is extremely friendly and they make sure you have a good experience. You are started out with a basket of freshly baked bread, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and a dish of roasted garlic. Be careful, it is easy to eat 2 baskets of bread and ruin your appetite. Every day they have specials that are based on what the chef gets fresh that day. The menu also offers many selections of pasta, sauces and meat dishes. They also make pizza that looked good but I never tried it. One of my favorite specials is flounder served with a light sauce along with steamed mussels and clams. Seafood can be a challenge but I was never disappointed here. Shellfish was cooked spot on as was every fish dish. The sauces always tasted fresh and were not too heavily seasoned so the taste of the ingredients stood out. When asked they were more than happy to make your dish spicy or to add extra basil. Save room for their cheesecake. It is light and one of the better ones I have had. Pros: Great food and selections, friendly Cons: A little out of the way more

wonderful wonderful 5/4/2006

talk about diamond in the rough. this place is absolutely fabulous from the food to the service. everything we ordered was amazing... the seafood risotto, the penne (with mozzarella, eggplant, and proscuitto), the creme bruelee... i love the ambiance (cozy), and the place is family run (two sons taking orders, one son working in the back, mom making her rounds at the tables). Pros: service, food, ambiance more

Just perfect! 3/25/2006

Family-owned and operated...they know us by name, and we keep coming back because the food is outstanding, the service is always perfect, the people are very friendly. To me, THIS is the way a restaurant should be. It's in an out of the way strip center, but it's the perfect little Italian place. They keep getting busier and busier as word gets out...they deserve all their success. Pros: Food, Service, Friendliness Cons: There aren't any! more

Real Italian Food 1/28/2006

If you are searching for real Italian food, this is it. It doesn't have the fancy singer like Macaroni & Grills that serve American-Italian food. Franco's has different special everyday, lunch and dinner with great varieties, from steak to seafood. The service is wonderful. Everytime we go, they always make us feel like home. The restaurant is located at a non-major street, between residential areas. We've lived here for 9 yrs and we didn't know it until last year. The restaurant is somewhat small and it gets filled up FAST. At last, when you order, I highly recommend you order from the daily special. Their banana cream pie is mm..mm.. good. Pros: Real Italian Food, Service Cons: Location, Somewhat small area more

Scrumptious home-made Italian food at last! 10/31/2005

If you are a foodie in search of the garden of ""Italian food"" Eden...this is it. Franco's is family owned - the father is a veteran Italian food and pastry chef and is supported by both his sons who cook and serve, and his sweet wife is always there with her heart warming smile. Make no mistake, their food is gorgeous. Rich sauces and generous portions make this my comfort food destination. They do have specialties, and they are worth the extra $. An $18 special will be worth every delicious penny. The basic entrees, spaghetti...pasta sampler....manicotti are good. The dinner specialties ~$16 ...chicken saltimbocca...seafood risotto...hot antipasti...are outstanding. This small and oddly located restaurant already has culinary write-ups, and will surprise you if you're willing to take the risk and order the more challenging and complex dishes! Pros: scrumptious food, fresh ingredients, family owned Cons: off the beaten path more
