Overbooked and rushed. 6/6/2006

We were 10 minutes late, and were told that the stylist has to attend to someone else in five minutes. 15 minutes total for a hair wash and cut?! If you are always 100% punctual and don't mind feeling rushed, it may be worth it. I prefer a bit of a different experience. The stylist ended up yelling after us that we were late the first time too. He wasn't even there! We won't go back. Pros: quick Cons: rushed; credit card fee more

Amazing hair salon 6/2/2006

If you're looking for an amazing haircut at a decent price with friendly staff, this is it. I've been going to see Ben for three years now and have never had a bad cut. He always does an incredible job, is extremely personable and professional. I would give the salon my highest recommendation. more

Aha! I've found my stylist! 5/4/2006

After moving from Rhode Island to Boston a little over three years ago, I had a hard time finding a stylist in the Boston area who was actually worth the money they charged. Ben at Frances Ray Jules is wonderful. ""A trim and long layers"" by one stylist at another salon left me with something sort of blah, not much different from how I walked in. The same thing from Ben left my hair looking fuller, healthier, and just plain better, without sacrificing too much length or sleekness. It's a cut you could easily pay $20 more for, elsewhere. Ben is also very nice and friendly, without being pushy. His staff is polite and professional. The late hours during the evening make it very convenient for me to go to after work. Decent Enough 5/4/2006

I received an opti hot straightening on my already straight Asian hair. I left with smooth, sleek, semi-shiny hair, and this lasted for about a week. It is now week #2 and I have comments on how my ends are damaged and fizzled. My hair's natural curve has come back in. I contacted the salon and they told me that blow drying helps to straighten. I'm still unsure what to think as it can be flat when i don't wash it, but it has the same natural wave when i air dry the ends. I thought the process was to perm my hair straight and no blow dry is needed to get the wave out. Also, I had to pay the credit card fee twice although the extra transaction was not my fault! Forget it... 4/15/2006

Taken in by the high rating posted on Citysearch I decided to the Somerville salon a try. Good value for money, friendly and attractive staff. Based on what I've read since, this could be just the place if you're looking for a Marine cut or something similar, but for longer mens styles stay away... My hair was so badly botched that I needed to have it corrected by another salon. more

Amazing Stylists in a Convenient Location! 3/23/2006

I came across this salon by chance. I had a weekend wedding and just had to do something with my hair. I made an appointment with Marta would was able to take me at a time that was convenient for me. This salon's hours of business are fantastic and really cater to the ""working woman."" At first I was a little nervous about going to a salon that was located in a gym, but as soon as you walk into the stylish salon you quickly forget this and melt into the relaxing atmosphere. Marta is an amazing stylist. She listened to what I wanted and was very accommodating. I left the salon feeling relaxed, happy and with a great haircut with amazing color. A Gym Member's Opinion ... 3/5/2006

I just joined the World's Gym and I was incredibly suprised to see that there was a salon in the gym. Nevermind to find out it is a chain with the best of boston salon 2005. The only reason i tried them out was because i couldnt make it to my regular barber in time and i needed a buzz. My hair came out the same way it would at my regular barber, I paid the same low price, but got the treatment of a king in a ""beauty"" salon. It also doesn't hurt that everyone they have employeed there that i've seen so far are just gorgeous. Great Job Girls! You've gained a regular! more

Why can't all salons be like this one? 3/4/2006

Why can't ALL salons be this friendly? ... Why can't all salons listen to what you want? ... Why can't all salons just get off their high horse and realize that sometimes i know my hair better than they do??? ... I FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT BY GOING TO THIS SALON ... Marta listened to me about my hair ... Jackie listened to me about my eyebrows ... The other girl (i didnt catch her name) was just pleasant to be around ... no pressure, no stuffiness and i walked out looking exactly the way i wanted to ... if you hate boston salons, this is DEFINATELY the place to go ... more

BEST KEPT SECRET ... 3/4/2006

This has to be the BEST salon ive EVER been to! The BIGGEST smiles greeted me by everyone when i got there. SABRINA did an AMAZING JOB! She actually took the time to listen to what I had to say, then gave her expert advice and then we came to a conclusion TOGETHER about my color and cut. Then there was JACKIE who did my eyebrows. PERFECT are my only words. She was also incredibly funny. Come to think of it, all three of the girls, Sabrina, Jackie and Martha all play off of each other creating this welcoming atmosphere. Thank you girls, my afternoon in the salon more relaxing then i could ever ask for. But a SPECIAL thanks to SABRINA for making my hair drop deap gorgeous and to JACKIE for my PERFECT eyebrows!! I am a client of Marta's, who does an AMAZING job with my long hair - cut and partial highlights. She gives great advice to someone like me who may not know what to do with my hair. Everyone who works here is really friends and the atmosphere is not intimidating or snobby at all. more

Best Salon I've ever been to 2/9/2006

I used to go to the Frances Ray Jules salon in Boston, but I was so excited when they opened one up in Somerville since that's where I live. The staff is friendly and very talented, especially Marta who I always go to for a haircut. She gives me great advice and always does an awesome job. I never have a problem with the service, parking, waiting, or getting an appointment. I love the salon and highly recommend it to anyone. more

Couldn't be happier! 1/31/2006

I've always been weary of hairstylists, especially after dealing with pretentious Newbury salons. However, I've found a place where the stylists listen and never judge. The first time discount of cut and color for $60 is an amaing bargain, and I was not disappointed. Sabrina and Jackie are experts at what they do. My hair was in desperate need of attention, and Sabrina treated it with the utmost care and respect. I pointed out five colors I liked and she mixed an absolutley perfect match. I've never had so many compliments on my color and cut. Jackie was precise and gentle with the waxing, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in the salon. Also, there was no pressure to buy any products. I highly recommend this salon, maybe not for the atmosphere, but for the high quality and expertise. And, after all, isn't that more important than anything else? more

I got just what I wanted 1/19/2006

I was hesitant to go to a salon located in a gym, but the parking and first time client discount reeled me in. The place was a bit small, but the girls were friendly and the promotions offered are great. Everyone should take advantage of one of their offers. I had my hair cut and styled by Sabrina and she did an excellent job. She listened very intently to everything that I wanted and meticulously cut my hair. She was more than happy to go back and cut a bit more at my suggestion after she had finished. She gave me great styling tips and was able to suggest some products that work really well for my hair. It now does things that I never thought it could do. This location is worth checking out for the access and value, not to mention the really nice women who work there! best highlights ever 1/12/2006

i saw this hip young girl working in the salon in world gym, where i work out almost everyday and one day i was inclined to make an appointment ... her name was sabrina and we talked for about 15 minutes on the day i booked the appointment which made me overly excited for the next day ... i couldnt wait ... she was so nice and i could just tell from looking at her, she was talented ... the day finally came and my highlights came out beautiful ... and the conversation was great ... it was like hanging out with an old friend ... and the other two girls who were working, it was a friday, were the kindest things also ... i cant wait for my next visit more

if youre a girl, you know how hard it can be to find someone to give you the right eyebrows to compliment your face ... or just someone who doesnt leave you searching for an eyebrow pencil at cvs the minute you walk out of the salon ... this exact expierience is what caused me to walk into Francis Ray Jules in World Gym to check out their eyebrow specialist ... i just went in to talk to see if there was anything she could do to help my now so overly grown out eyebrows ... jackie explained everything ... so well that even after all my bad expieriences, i trusted her! ... and thank god for that because ever since last night, i cant stop looking at my eyebrows ... it is by far the best eyebrow wax ive ever gotten and i would recommend her to ANYONE! more

Cant get enough!! 1/6/2006

I work out at the Worlds Gym and I have walked by the salon about a dozen times before I dared to step in....once I did I was hooked!! The girls in there are fun and very talented. I have a busy work schedule so i cant always book an appointment until the last minute but they always find time for me, Ive seen just about everyone there and I dont have one complaint. They seem to be able to read each others minds cause I always get the same great result. I wont go any else, there stuck with me!! Pros: parking, open late, fun staff more
