Why would anyone go to Macaroni Grill or Olive Garden when there's 411 West? I've never had a bad meal there and have probably gone 7-8 times. My parents don't like a ton of resta...

We had a really nice time 2/19/2008

The hubby and I wandered in on New Years Eve, it was a Monday, we had no reservation. The staff was nice from the front door to the table. Monday nights are 1/2 price bottle night and we scored some good deals. We had a half bottle of Moet White Star for $18. Come on, you can't get a crappy house sparkling wine for $9 a glass. It was a steal. Our waitress told us that she was new to table service and did a great job. While maybe lacking a bit of finesse that comes from being a career waiter ( hubby and I have been doing it for years ) she was so sweet and we had a great time. We did three courses and she just let us relax and enjoy ourselves...she wasn't pushy at all. I would go back anytime. I don't know why folks thought it was so noisy. It was packed when were there, and I didn't think it was that bad... I guess I have been to too many rock concerts. haha Pros: very nice staff, Mondays are 1/2 price wine night more

Best eatery in town 1/25/2008

I have lived in Chapel Hill for just over 10 years, and have dined at 411 at least twice that, 822 times.\r \r It's the best place in town, period. Great pizza, salads, entrees, sometimes over sauced pasta dishes that can be adjusted when ordering, great service, great sunday brunch.\r \r Excellent wine list, and good beer too.\r Pros: Great food, service, value. Cons: Bread/rolls are weak more

is this place really in a college town?? 11/11/2007

Chicken Parm was awesome! breaded but not deep fried it taste fresh and light, cesear salad was also good, and the petite menu was very good if your looking to avoid HUGE portions and over eating pasta. the desert you definitely need to get the million dollar pie it was like a peanut butter fudge cheesecake, split it because its rich but you will be IN HEAVEN! wait wasnt bad with a reservation and the service was good. Be prepared to pay a pretty penny, but the food was worth what you pay. Pros: tasty food and awesome atmosphere, especially for a college town ""nice"" italian restaurant. Cons: No parking, very noisy and hard to hear more

Whatever!!!! 9/30/2007

This place is the best place on Franklin st. because all there is, is a bunch of bars!! I would not go back there if someone paid me money! Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Excellent food 8/26/2007

Why would anyone go to Macaroni Grill or Olive Garden when there's 411 West? I've never had a bad meal there and have probably gone 7-8 times. My parents don't like a ton of restaurants but we almost always go here when they are in town because they love it. In terms of service, they've actually improved. I've sometimes had to wait awhile on Saturday night to get a table but it's great that they now take reservations. They also offer free valet parking so you don't have to try to find a spot in their small lot. A group of eight of us each ordered different items and we all enjoyed what we got. I don't know if you can go wrong with what you order here. Good food, with good ambiance (it sometimes can get a little noisy) with prices that are pretty reasonable. Pros: Tasty food Cons: Sometimes it can take awhile to get food, especially dessert more

Careful, don't give a bad review..they remove it 3/16/2007

I posted a review a few years back and found it interesting that it has been removed. I haven't been back since, but up until that point my husband and I were dragged there countless times by friends. We finally had to take a stand and just say ""no."" \r Unless they have changed their bad attitude, bland food and poor service...my previous review still stands. Truth apparently hurts. more

Noisy, snobs 9/11/2006

Very noisy. Reservations mean nothing. Treat you like you're lucky to be there. Very noisy (didn't learn a thing with their Raleigh location). On the other hand, the food is to die for. But you can die for food somewhere else with more ambience, style and poise. Did I say it was noisy? Pros: the Italian food Cons: noisy, snobby staff, parking more

Great place to feel right at thome! 7/11/2006

My family and friends dine at 411 regularly as well as grabbing take out now and then. Every time I am there, the food is fabulous and the staff are all very friendly! It is the place all my out of town guests want to go - and for good reason! It is always a good time - great wine and great food! Pros: food, staff Cons: parking more

Why Do People Think This Place Is Good? 6/12/2006

Four Eleven West is a mediocre Italian restaurant. It has a more creative menu than Romano's Macaroni Grill, but its food isn't any better. I have yet to find a dependable, bread-and-butter Italian restaurant in the Triangle. I guess compared to the other low-grade restaurants on Franklin Street, Four Eleven West seems like a four-diamond experience to college and grad students. Otherwise, I cannot think of a reason why this place survives. \r \r To its credit, the bar is nice here, albeit quite small. more

a little wine and a little romance 5/24/2006

My boyfriend and I actually ate here before a semi-formal event with two other friends and had an amazing time. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Service was extremely friendly. They were attentive. I loved the wine selection. We had a bottle of Pinot Noir and it was fantastic. The food was immaculate. Portions were a bit too large for me but I generally eat very small portions. I'd recommend 411. more

Probably won't return 9/23/2005

Just this evening my family and I had dinner at Four Eleven West Franklin. Simply put, I was not terribly impressed. The surroundings were nice, but not great. The acoustics are terrible in this restaurant; every sound seems to build on itself as it echoes around the brick and stucco walls. Very noisy atmosphere made more for the younger crowd. If they applied some sound deadening techniques it might help. We had reservations and were seated promptly, but the rest of the service was slow, even though the restaurant was not at all full. The food was average at best, my Italian style thin crust pizza was burned and dry. The prices on the menu are a little above average for this kind of food and quality. If youre looking for a quiet evening meal this is not your place. Pros: Interesting Decor Cons: Noisy, Service more

From Romance to Garden, 411 has it all! 2/4/2005

I must admit to being a huge fan of Four Eleven West...I've dined there a number of times and I'm always impressed. The wait staff is top-notch. The atmosphere is quite unique, and it's flexible too, as there are really three different rooms in which one can dine! The garden area is spectacular, with a greenhouse-like ceiling and a little pond...you'll feel like you're dining in an alleyway restaurant in Rome! The restaurant's newest addition is a more romantic room with high ceilings and ""mood lighting."" There's a diversity of dining experiences housed under one roof! And for the price, I haven't found better Italian food anywhere in the Triangle. The chicken marsala is superb, as is the chicken parmesan. Unfortunately parking can be a huge issue on Fri/Sat evenings. Pros: atmosphere, 3 unique dining rooms, reasonably priced Cons: parking (sometimes) more

Mediocre 5/31/2004

I ate at 411 a few years ago and thought it was spetacular. I just visited it again this past weekend and I have to say the experience was mediocre. While the homemade pasta was decent, but the pasta sauce was plain and bland. I could have gotten a better pasta dish going to Macaroni Grill. While the server was nice, but she didn't really do a good job following up with everything. There is definitely much better places to go than 411. Pros: reasonable pricees, trendy atmosphere more

Great place for quiet but upbeat dinner. 7/9/2003

Possibly one of the best ambiences on Franklin Street, Four Eleven West provides lovely atmosphere that would be great for a romantic dinner for two or a group of old friends. The cuisine is fantastic, and once you get past the wait on the traditional busy nights, the service is great. Pros: GREAT atmosphere, Great cuisine, Close to campus Cons: Sometimes a long wait, Semi-expensive more

Lovely presentation, lovely evening 5/4/2003

We'd driven by 411 a number of times recently and finally decided to try it last night. The atmosphere is vibrant and fun, the prices are reasonable, and food is great. I was happily surprised at how delicate the sauces were--so often cream sauce makes you feel like you need to spend 3 hrs. on a treadmill the next day to assuage your guilt. The pumpkin mousse cake with cranberries looked wonderful on the plate and tasted wonderful too, though it did seem a bit out of place on a May menu. Pros: atmosphere, food presentation, food quality Cons: parking more

Wont be going back 3/23/2003

We went here a few months ago, and unfortunately will not be returning. Some ordered the beef, but the potatoes and veg were hardly cooked. They sent them back - 3 times - and each time they came back almost the same. Eventually we asked for the manager, who was extremely rude and condesending to us, saying that the potatoes and veg were always prepared that way. What made us all so mad was that there were 10 of us, who all work in catering, 5 of them are chefs at an extremely popular restaurant! We didnt mention this, but feel if we had things would have been totally different. However, now I will not be recommending this restaurant to anybody else. I gave the ambiance a higher rating than anything else, because the reason you go to a restaurant is for the food and service; both were very disappointing. more

Yawn... Used to be great... 2/7/2003

The last few times I've been, I felt I got better service and food just as good at the Macaroni Grill. 411 even had paper napkins. Come on, even the K&W Cafeteria can do cloth napkins! more

A first choice for dinner everytime 1/16/2003

411 West has been a favorite of my friends, family and myself since moving to Chapel Hill several years ago. It can please everyone from the college student to the food connoisseur who has travelled the US and Europe. The atmosphere is delightful, and I have sampled most everything on the menu- it all being delicious. Plan to wait though, especially on the weekends. Two of the best things: they will cook your food to order, and there is parking! a rarity on Franklin Street. Pros: parking, great food for mod. $ more

yum pasta 8/16/2002

their what fettucine is the best! also, check out the tiramisu and other gorgeous desserts. the presentation of the food adds to the overall ambience. more

Average 8/7/2002

411 lucks out with its location and atmosphere - it's a beautiful place to eat if you exclude the attitude. The shrimp appetizer was excellent, but the entree was another victim of overcooked noodles. I had heard years of praise for the restaurant, but when I went I was severely dissappointed. Perhaps it was due to the buzz previously generated, but I just expected more... more of a dining experience than a mediocre meal. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Attitude, Price, Parking more
