Having read lots about Ford's Filling Station on a walk around Culver City we thought we would try it. I ordered the fish and chips and my friend ordered a burger. The fish was ...

Awesome place!!! 7/1/2007

I can not say enough good things about this place. I absolutely love it!!! Great food, service and drinks! If you sit outside, they'll even offer you a blanket to keep you warm. I'd go there everyday if I could. Definitely try the Mojito, so tasty! Pros: Everything!!!!!! Cons: Nothing more

Peach tart 6/28/2007

I went here for dinner last night and had the special sturgeon and a flatbread as app, which was too thin, like a cracker, but the dessert was fabu, a peach tartlet of some sort with peach ice cream. You can tell it was homemade and though out well. Pros: Dessert was yum, very unique Cons: Flatbread too flat! more

Fabulous Time! 6/4/2007

Had a wonderful time here recently (after a very bad experience at Bottlerock) - the food, service and atmosphere of this place totally cheered me up. Tom (the bartender) made us great vodka martinis and was very attentive and patient with us (since we were there for like 6 hours)! We had wonderful cheese and charcuterie plates (the petite basque and machengo were really good) and fish & chips (upscale version of this classic pub food, with fresh cod, fried asparagus, etc.). We also had a yummy brownie sundae followed by lots and lots of delicious wine. I can't wait to go back! (Tip - for dinner, you do need advance reservations as the place gets packed!) Pros: Great Food, Service & Drinks - what else could you ask for more

Every bite was a little bit of heaven! 5/16/2007

We had the most amazing 3 course meal here last Thursday. We shared the burrata/prosciutto salad - it was very good and a HUGE portion. I had the appetizer special of the day - steamed clams, which was more than large enough for an entree portion. My husband had the delicious fish & chips. He gave it 5 stars, and he should know, he's a Brit. The dessert was amazing as well - rhubarb crumble. Not the cheapest place but an all-around non-rushed, excellent meal & great wait staff. more

Pleasant experience at Ford's 5/16/2007

I just had the best experience at this restaurant. I came in for a beer and a late lunch and I ended up pulling one of their books off of their book shelf and stayed there for the afternoon reading and enjoying myself in what was a casual afternoon. I completely lost track of time and was soon surrounded by dnner diners. So I said, ""what the heck, lunch was so good why not have dinner."" I just had a great time. Pros: relaxing in the day, fun at night Cons: needs more Jim Harrison on the book shelf more

My favorite new dish - POlenta Cake 5/15/2007

I like to go in to Ford's a couple times a week and sit at the bar. Most of the time I eat and it is quite good. I had thought about writing them a review in the past but felt compelled after my meal last night. My friend had the most unbelievable Halibut and I had my new favorite dish, the polenta cake. Im not a vegetarian and I don't usually order vegetarian dishes but the bartender suggested I try it. It was really satisfying for someone who is used to steak and potatoes. Pros: Friendly staff, delicious food, fun on weekends Cons: crowded on weekends more

First time and no next time 5/10/2007

Seriously, I don't get all the good reviews about this place. I guess if you like overpaying for average food, bad service, long wait and pretentious menu then this is the place for you. Other than that, Culver City Rocks!!! Pros: Culver city more

Overrated 5/9/2007

Went to FFS for the first time last Saturday. My friend had raved about the steamed clam special, which we ordered one each of, plus a duck salad to share, and drinks. The clams would have been OK if not for the inclusion of pretty-shelled, but gross-to-eat longneck (I think that's what they're called) clams. The duck salad was overdressed, weighing down the delicate baby lettuces, and the duck iteslf (which I normally adore) was gamey and poorly-seasoned. My glass of wine was good (cote de rhone) and my friend seemed to like his fiery martini made with jalepeno, but I didn't care for it. Just not my taste. Other than the food, the service was slow and not particularly inviting. And sitting outside, our dining neighbor had a rodent perching on his lap, which he flung into the restaurant window, then scurried away, causing a customer or two to scream. The servers had no clue any of this happened, and when the man told them, they did not apologize or offer us anything to make up for the unappetizing experience. Not that it was their fault, but it reflects on them nonetheless. I would not go to FFS again, and I would not recommend it. Pros: Location Cons: Food, Service more

What a Treat 5/4/2007

My wife and I love this place. Can get busy on the weekends, we actually prefer going during the week. Such a great atmosphere, teriffic food, and a solid staff. I totally recommend checking this place out oh and also make sure to take a look at the wine list - great menu. more

casual but stylish bar w/ charcuterie bar menu too! 5/3/2007

rustic minimal vibe, friendly staff, good cocktails (one of the rare places that have both fresh caipirhinia AND mojitos)! Only had Shrimp flatbread app at the bar and not a full dinner so can't say much on that but menu seemed solid. Shrimp scampi esque topping was delicious w/ the slices of lemon and the charcuterie menu was great for the bar. I'd definitely go back for real dinner. more

FFS is Hot! 4/27/2007

Great food! The servers are very knowledgeable. Bringing sexyback to Culver City. Go ahead and be gone wit it. Pros: Food more

Over priced wine. Okay food. Young and Hip. 4/27/2007

For the price we paid, the food was okay. It's a hip ""In"" place. Waitress was excellent and friendly. Kobe Beef was okay -- but for $32, it was too mushy to actually taste what made Kobe Beef so famous. Wine list was small and very expensive for their value. Food was not creative, but the atmosphere is hip but relaxed. Food didn't stand out from the rest of higher end hip restaurants in town. Good place to go after movies. Pros: Easy parking. Good Ambience. Cons: Price. more

Making 90232 the place to be! 4/14/2007

The Pub Burger, Crispy Chicken, Fish 'n Chips, and Brook Trout are some of the best entrees at this establishment. The staff is wonderful as well as helpful. Be sure to make reservations AT LEAST a day or two in advance because this place can get super busy. Forget the previous statement, it STAYS busy and for good reason. Pros: Delicious Food Cons: Almost too busy at times more

Ford's! 4/14/2007

Wow! This place is saturated with coolness. Great beers on tap and a nice wine/cocktail menu, too. The Pub Burger is my favorite entree. Highly Recommended!! more

Avoid on Sundays 4/14/2007

I have been to FFS at least a dozen times and I have to say that this place rocks! The atmosphere has a chill vibe that is very relaxing. My favorite entrees are the Polenta Cake, Crispy Chicken Breast, Lamb Sirloin, and Kobe Beef Cheeks. The flatbreads are amazing and the desserts are to die for. The head chef and owner, Benjamin Ford, occasionally greets his guests while they eat. He's a sweetheart! Be sure to ask to sit at the banquette table if you are on a date; it's very romantic. One of these days I'll be sitting there with my significant other...oh yes...one of these days. You might want to avoid on Sundays as the restaurant is closed. Pros: Food Cons: Always busy more

Great food, great atomosphere 4/13/2007

We went here last night with a bunch of friends and were extremely impressed. The appetizers were amazing (oysters, clams, flatbread, burrata salad, etc.). This place is known for their meat, but they recommended their polenta dish to me, as a vegetarian. This dish was out of this world! The polenta was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside -- a very hearty meal. My husband ordered the kobe beef cheeks which he couldn't stop talking about once we left the place. And we tasted many of the desserts, all of which were delicious (a peanut butter/ fudge combo was my favorite). I really enjoyed the atmosphere as well -- laid-back and intimate. It was decorated very nicely, with dim lighting to set the mood. And I loved the fire from the stove in the kitchen being on display. An overall great experience --I will definitely come back soon! more

Chocolatey and good 3/6/2007

I love chocolate. I love clams. I love chicken. Ford's has all the food I like. The chicken was very good. It was moist with a little crunch from the coating. The clams were as good as the fried ones down at the shore back East. More importantly, Ford's has clams! they are very hard to find in LA unless you go to a Howard Johnson's on Fridays and those are greasy. The clams at Ford's are light and sweet. I even got an order to go to munch on in the car. But the chocolate dessert was the best. Very chocolatey and very very good. I'll be back!! Pros: Like the decor; good service; friendly servers more

The Best 3/6/2007

Shrimp cocktail, fried clams and chocolate dessert!!!!! The best place to go in Culver City. I want to go back to try the chicken. more
