Great Drinks.. atmosphere.. fav spot

Having read lots about Ford's Filling Station on a walk around Culver City we thought we would try it. I ordered the fish and chips and my friend ordered a burger. The fish was ...

My favorite lunch spot! 5/11/2006

I make a habit of hanging at Ford's Filling Station every chance I get. I love it as a lunch spot during the work week. their shrimp flatbread is terrific, as is the vibe, the service and even the prices. I've never had anything disappointing in my 10+ visits. Great after work too, if you like relaxed unpretentious cool spots! Love it, love it and the chef's easy on the eyes too:) Pros: Great Service!, Easy & Cheap Parking, Cool Ambiance Cons: Great Menu, but ask the server as it can be confusing. more

Culver City's Worse. 5/3/2006

I just don't know what the owner is thinking. Mr Ford is trying to create a Hip? Trendy? Cool? All-American? Causal? What the???? This restuarant is trying to create everything or be everything!!! One statement, your ""Fusion"" is really ""Confusing"" in this restaurant!!! That's why all the waiter are young, inexperience and confuse when they try to serve. Maybe it's not their fault, maybe it's their stupid jobs!!! Pros: Nothing, None, Never will. Cons: Stupid Servers., Bad seating area., Tasteless Foods more

a place for every occasion 4/16/2006

I have been to this place nearly once a week since it opened, taken out of town guests, my party friends and even my husband on his birthday for a romantic dinner. Every time i have had amazing food the meat and cheese platters are amazing for sharing, as was the trout salad. I have never liked Sweet breads Before but the are amazing,as is the Crispy chicken. It can get very busy on weekends and you can be waiting a bit, but what popular restaurant in LA does not make you wait! the service is good and friendly, you have to remember this is a Gastro pub, not Fine dinning. so, you can tear it up with your friends and have a great time (wine list is reasonable) and or be romantic. looking forward till the it gets warmer so we can sit on the great Patio. Pros: great food, affordable wine, fun atmosphere Cons: hrd to get a bar seat more

Cool Chef 4/16/2006

Besides the good food- and it was good- my favorite part was when the chef came to my table just to ask me and my friends how our meal was and if we were having a good time. He's done this 2 of the times I've been there, which impresses me. We were really having a great time already...but it really was even better when he came out! Icing on the cake! The service has also really improved since the first time I went Pros: great music! Cons: a little bit of a wait- we forgot to make a reservation. more

Unfulfilled at Ford's Filling Station! 4/16/2006

From the name of the restaurant we thought we would receive decent-sized portions (not that we were looking to put on the feed bag, but we weren't on the Zone either!) You will be told ""how it works"" by your server. You will be encouraged to order many dishes, all pricey for what you get. I suggest you eat somewhere else and just go there to hang at the bar. For the moment it feels like a rip-off. Maybe they should consider changin the name of the place so people won't be mislead. Oh, and it's very, very loud. Not a good place for a date, but if you've got good vocal chords, dig in. Or not. Pros: friendly crowd, good location Cons: loud, skimpy portions more

User review by m_stelzl 4/15/2006

We arrived on time for a 7:00 reservation, got seated 30 minutes later. At 8:05 our drinks arrived. It was a birthday celebration where I picked the restaurant and I could not enjoy my meal, I was too upset by the bad service. There are too many really good restaurants in LA to ever return to Ford's Filling Station. They ran out of wine glasses and,to top things off, did not remember the candle in the dessert. Pros: Parking okay, 1 block, better than average Cons: BAD service, Too loud more

Ford's Waiting Room 4/15/2006

We had a reservation for 6 people that was made 6 weeks in advance. We were seated 1 hour after our reservation time. Once sat we had horrible service. They ran out of wine glasses, so our wine was served in cocktail glasses. We were even given a warm cocktail glass for chardonay. The food does not warrant another visit to this restaurant. TOO MANY GOOD RESTAURANTS IN LA TO WASTE MONEY AND TIME HERE!!!!! Pros: NOTHING Cons: SERVICE, FOOD more

GREAT TIMES!!! 4/12/2006

I had the pleasure of dining at the gastropub-style restaurant. This is definitely a worthy addition to the blossoming Culver City restaurant scene. The informal and loose vibe coupled with an outstanding choice of music is just what the doctor ordered. I've been to FFS 5 times and each time it gets better. Mmm, this is a must see!!! Pros: Delicious, Exciting, Fun more

great for culver city 4/11/2006

I have been there on repeated visits and have had most of the menu. I have always come away with positive experience. Pros: great food, great bar, great patio more

A fun, fiendly palce with very good food 4/8/2006

Fun place, not as noisy as I expected. We ate at the bar and had a great time. The appetizers - steak tartare and a smoked trout salad - were both exceptional, and our entree - fish and chips - was very good. Pros: Very good food, Friendly staff, Nice place Cons: Kinda expensive more

Nothing Special 4/6/2006

I had read some of the negative reviews on this site about Ford's Filling Station, but I thought what the heck, I'll make my own judgement. As it turns out, the negative reviews are right on the money. The atmosphere of this restaurant is decent, but it is quite small. My first impression of the food was bad when I bit into a dry and uninspired breadstick. My date ordered the burger, which is good if you like Blue Cheese (it was smoothered in it). I had the Flattened Chicken, which was ok, but nothing to write home about. My favorite part was the Blue Margatini cocktail. There's no need to check this place out, or for me to go back. It was pretty boring and there are so many other interesting and good places to check out. Pros: Ambiance, Salt and Pepper Bowls, Good Parking Cons: Uninspired, Overpriced, Small more

Grrrrrrr-istle 4/5/2006

Friend and I had lunch there today. We both ordered the pub burger. My friend had to repeatedly pull rubbery pellets out of her mouth and put them on her plate. I got two definitely gristly bites. I was starved and just wolfed. She gave up. When server came at end of meal my friend pointed it out and the server was very nice and NOT surprised she said. She said she wanted to take it back to the kitchen. She took it off the check even tho we said we ate most of it. She insisted. Said they need to buy better meat. That it's the chuck they use. She said she would never eat the burger. We were like, um, thanks.....So, I don't think I'll be back. Cool vibe. But cheap meat for a $14 burger, c'mon. Pros: Nice decor Cons: Pricey, Low Quality Food more

Casual Upscale Eatery Much Needed in Culver City 4/5/2006

Well, this part of town is always underserved by high quality, good service restaurants. Luckily, Ford's Filling Station was a delight. Gloria, the hostperson, was amiable, took us right to our table in the cozy inside dining room, and everything we ordered was tasty. We remember Ben from his previous restaurant in Bev Hills and this was also quite a culinary treat. Highly recommended! Pros: Food, Service, decor Cons: smallish, can be a little noisi more

Very Enjoyable 4/4/2006

I was not too excited about going to lunch at this place after reading some of the reviews, but I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience there. The food was fantastic - my friend and I had the four cheese flatbread, iceberg wedge salad, I had the pub burger (great meat, great bun, great french fries and onion rings on the side!), my friend had the fish & chips, and we split the flourless chocolate torte for dessert (could've done without the kumquats on it though). The hostess and staff were very very nice. The waitress went along with all of my friend's silly jokes, and the hostess insisted on opening the door for us as we were leaving. Reminded me a lot of Hal's in Venice, in both ambience and food. Pros: Service, Food more

quite a disappointment 4/4/2006

I wanted to like this place... the decor seemed nice (nice rug... but the tables are crammed together with uncomfortable hard chairs!) The menus sounded great. The staff is inexperienced (after showing a grungy server some crusty silverware, she heaved a sigh and grabbed a replacement off the next table) and after waiting almost 45"" for the Kobe roast(our earnest waiter said it was pre-roasted, but didn't ask us how well we wanted it cooked) it came out almost moo-ing and tendony, even after sending it back for further cooking. BTW, they have the most ridiculous steak knives. The potatoes lyonnaise with fennel would have been tasty if the potatoes were cooked to tenderness. The grilled asparagus and the brussel sprouts were very good. Oh well. I've enjoyed beef more at 1/10th the price, but perhaps they'll iron out the wrinkles. For now, it's all hype. Pros: good parking Cons: service, food, price more

Not what I expected 4/3/2006

Went Sat. night. Grumpy hostess. We sat at the bar waiting for our table. Great bar tender, Michael, who knew his booze. We ordered clams at the bar, which turned up pretty quickly, but were not cleaned of sand (or whatever the crunchy substance was). When we were seated, on time, by no-personality hostess, we were in a tented addition to the restaurant. It was cold, noisy and you really felt as though you weren't part of the restaurant. There was a heater on the ceiling that blew hot into our faces the whole time. The main course was good, I had the trout. My husband's steak was tough and pretty horrid. He didn't finish it. We paid and went back to the bar. Ordered desert - chocolate, flourless cake - that was great - however, had some horrid apricot syrup on it. Won't go again unless it gets better. Pros: Nice crowd, Good bar service Cons: Seating more

Not all that 4/3/2006

Our party of four was seated promptly - right next to kitchen (other tables were available). The waitress was not knowledgable about the beer choices, which should have been more varied and uncommon for a ""gastro pub"". We ordered the Pub Burger (very good, but not as good as The Office Burger form Father's Office), fish and chips (oily, not very flavorful), a 4-cheese flatbread (artisan pizza - it was acceptable) and the crispy pressed chicken (perfectly fine). The lemonade was reported as tasty but the beers (Guinness, Pyramid hefe, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Firestone Double Barrel) were off in their aroma and flavor. Soapy - possibly due to the pint glasses. Overall - perfectly okay food and ambience undermined by the high prices. Four for dinner (including 5 beers among the party and an appetizer) was well over $100.00. It's just not a good value. Pros: varied menu, fast service Cons: Expensive, Crowded, dark more

Your Paying for the Name, Not the Food 3/30/2006

I tried this place out a few days ago with a co-worker and found it not at all worth the money. It is one of those places where you pay for the name, not the food. I am not into places like that, nor is my wallet. Your jaw will hit the floor when you see the prices and you'll be even more disappointed once you eat the food. The problem is that this type of eatery doesn't belong in Culver City, along a row of diners and spots for people who want to grab a quick bite during a lunch hour. From what I see, it appeals only to a handful of Sony Pictures executives and not the average Joe. Also, the waiters and waitresses have tremendous attitude. A bit too snooty for service workers. Cons: Service, Price , Food more

Professionals NEEDED 3/27/2006

I tried this restaurant with five friends last Friday and it was a comedy of errors. Despite our late reservation (9pm) and the fact that I arrived early and checked in at 8:40, our party wasn't seated until 9:45. We ordered drinks and appetizers and it took 1hr from the time our appetizers were cleared for the entrees to arrive. We were comped dessert and this took another 45 minutes and the check then took 15 minutes more to arrive. Too little to show for a 3hr dinner. My recommendation - give them a few months to work out their reservation and service issues, then give them a try (if they're still around by then). The chef's dad (Harrison Ford) does well enough so maybe he will underwrite it until then. Cons: Service, Seating more

Some of their dishes are fine, but not all 3/27/2006

My husband and I ate lunch at this restaurant. I ordered the Polenta Cake and I enjoyed very much. I don't mind small portion of food but could serve bread. If you pay $20 for lunch, don't you deserve to have some bread? My husband ordered the Crispy Chicken and it was too dry. Most servers at the restaurant seemed inexperienced. They rather chit chat each other than paying attention to their custormers. Even though our server wasn't busy at all, all of our foods were served by a busser. Pros: Good food Cons: Bad service more
